many thanks. after you great advice alan, it is now turned on

You should turn it on, as for settings, I don’t know what they mean, they may be thinking of recycling.
I will explain the difference
Recycling, your website runs as a process, when a visitor comes to your site, it takes a bit of time to start up, rather then simply stop again once it has served the page, it stays running for a set amount of time, usually 20 minutes on a windows server. You can set this time in the server settings. You can also recycle the process after so many requests, or when it is using so much memory, or you can leave it running all the time.
Keep-alive, is when someone requests a page, they have to open a connection to your server for each item they download, each css file each js file and each image. Rather then open and close all these connections you can use keep-alve to keep the connection open until all objects have been requested.
It would seem that your host may be confusing the 2Keep alive is turned on by default on a windows server, and as far as i know it either on or off, with no other settings
I did a quick look up for apache server, and there is a few settings.
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/keepalive.htmla windows server will keep open till all requests are made. in the url there there are 2 settings, maximum requests and timeout, the defaults are 5 and 15, they seem fine for most websites.
But since you have joomla, you may want to extend max requests.
each image css and js fiel is a requests, joomla can have many css and js files.

IP Indexing of MySQL with 80,000 links , help please
Hi There, We were just using one server for both Mysql & httpd server. The server's IP address was 207.36.90.69. Time to time the server couldn't handle the requests so we decided to get new servers in order to handle them. When i talk to my system engineer and software developer about this, they've suggested clustering our site http://goo.gl/ITNqs. So we moved our site http://goo.gl/ITNqs to the server (216.87.165.21) but we kept the old machine 207.36.90.69 to use as MySQL server and deleted all HTTP related files last year. Somehow google indexed 80K unnatural links from this old IP 207.36.90.69. We have received an unnatural links warning back in august and got a link related penalty on sept 28th. Our webmaster tools are showing that we have 80,000 link pointing to our site from the old server with only mysql on it. Can someone help us understand how google crawler indexed an IP with no http related files on it for almost a year, 10 months to be exact. Thank you

Forward DNS Please HEEEELLLLPPPPPPP!!!
Sorry if I'm asking a rookie question here, I'm a hobbyist not a pro. I purchased a domain from Dodaddy and it's hosted on Network Solutions. We are now adding a shopping cart and need to create the subdomain shop.mydomain.com and forward the DNS to Volusion. I assumed this is done at Godaddy, where I purchased the domain. I called and they told me that Network Solutions needs to do it. I called NS and they told me GD had to do it. I called GD again hoping to get a different answer, but NOPE... guess what??? "everyone knows that it's done by whoever is hosting the site." UUUUGGGG So PLEASE let me know WHO has this responsibility???? Hopefully everyone has a common answer. 🙂 I still believe it's done at GD. Thanks Everyone

Google is keeping very old title tags in the SERPs for my site. How can I fix this?
Hi Around 6 months ago a site I work with changed its brand. One company became two. Despite changing the title when a new site went live around 6 months ago Google still picks up the old title for certain search results relevant to the old title. When a search result is relevant to the new title it shows that. It's very frustrating as we are trying to re-brand and do not want the old brand name showing for some very important search results. Thanks in advance for your help Paul

Do links transfer after a 301? Please advise.
We own 2 websites. Website "A" has 100 external followed links pointing to it. I put a 301 on that domain and pointed it to Website "B". Shouldn't Website "B" now get credit for the followed links originally pointing to Website "A"? I'm hoping my external followed link count for Website "B" increases. Please advise... Thanks in advance!

Will password protecting my test sub-domain help keep the SEs from indexing it?
Hi, all. I'm working in an unfamiliar area here, so I hope someone can tell me if I'm out in left field. I am building a sub-domain called http://test.mysite.com, so that I can upload a client's still-under-construction site while working on it. When completed, it'll go up on his server, replacing his old site. Obviously, I want to ensure that it doesn't get indexed while it's on my test platform. A friend suggested that I password it with htaccess and htpasswd, since we can never be certain the SEs will obey site directives. My question is, what do you think would be the best (and hopefully, simplest) way to accomplish this? I'm no code-monkey, so "simple" is a big plus! Doc By the way, the platform will be Wordpress CMS.
