IP Indexing of MySQL with 80,000 links , help please
-
Hi There, We were just using one server for both Mysql & httpd server. The server's IP address was 207.36.90.69. Time to time the server couldn't handle the requests so we decided to get new servers in order to handle them. When i talk to my system engineer and software developer about this, they've suggested clustering our site http://goo.gl/ITNqs. So we moved our site http://goo.gl/ITNqs to the server (216.87.165.21) but we kept the old machine 207.36.90.69 to use as MySQL server and deleted all HTTP related files last year. Somehow google indexed 80K unnatural links from this old IP 207.36.90.69. We have received an unnatural links warning back in august and got a link related penalty on sept 28th. Our webmaster tools are showing that we have 80,000 link pointing to our site from the old server with only mysql on it. Can someone help us understand how google crawler indexed an IP with no http related files on it for almost a year, 10 months to be exact. Thank you

Sounds like a messy one. Looks like your old server was not decommissioned properly. Private message me if ya want me to investigate.

Accidental No Index
Hi everyone, We control several client sites at my company. The developers accidentally had a no index robot implemented in the site code when we did the HTTPS upgrade without knowing it (yes it's true). Ten days later we noticed traffic was falling. After a couple days we found the no index tags and removed them and resumbitted the sitemaps. The sites started ranking for their own keywords again within a day or two. The organic traffic is still down considerably and other keywords they are not ranking for in the same spot as they were before or at all. If I look in Google Search console, it says we submitted for example 4,000 URLs and only 160 have been indexed. I feel like maybe Google is taking a long time to re-index to remainder of the sites?? Has anyone has this issue?? We're starting to get very concerned so any input would be appreciate. I read an article on here from 2011 about a company that did the same and they were ranking for their keywords within a week. It's been 8 days since our fix.

Outbound Links
I have a page on upstrap-pro.com that provides weights of cameras and lenses. The user/buyer of my on-slip camera straps needs to know the weight his camera and lens to determine the proper pad size... large to small. We have put together a long list of the most popular customer cameras. The way it was done (by my daughter) was to also provide a via a link to dpreview.com which is an excellent site for camera information including specifications etc. My personal feeling about this is mixed. I can do it by having it open dpreview.com in a new tab but then the user/customer could still get distracted and go down the rabbit hole. On the other hand dpreview is such a good site that if they are new to photography and don't know about it, they should. I don't get a dime from dpreview. If fact I doubt they would ever link back to me because they do not write about camera straps. I hear mixed things about outbound links. In this file there are quite a few outbound links to dpreview to keep it consistent. I could do a nofollow on all of them but I read that this is the easy way out. Google is jump ball and I have no clue what Cutts and his merry men are going to decide is cool or not cool. I'd like some thoughts or options... Thanks... A small part of the file below. Too many links? Do links to named anchors count (ie page#nameanchor)?
Hi, I have an internal search results page that contains approx 200 links in total. This links to approx 50 pages. Each result listing contains a link to the page in the format /page.html and also has 3 more links (for each listing) to named anchors within the page. eg /page.html#section1, /page.html#section2, /page.html#section3 etc. Should i remove the named anchors to keep my links per page under the Seomoz suggested max of 100? Will it impact crawl-ability or link juice being passed? Thanks in advance for your response.

Rel=canonical + no index
We have been doing an a/b test of our hp and although we placed a rel=canonical tag on the testing page it is still being indexed. In fact at one point google even had it showing as a sitelink . We have this problem through out our website. My question is: What is the best practice for duplicate pages? 1. put only a rel= canonical pointing to the "wanted original page" 2. put a rel= canonical (pointing to the wanted original page) and a no index on the duplicate version Has anyone seen any detrimental effect doing # 2? Thanks

.htaccess help please
Hi there, Can anyone let me know what I need to add to my .htaccess file to make sure that the trailing slash on my domain gets redirected to my main domain name. For example, at the moment Google is seeing my primary domain as follows: http://www.mydomain.com http://www.mydomain.com/ I thought I'd covered off all possible duplication penalities but it look as though I've still got one left! Thanks very much for your help, Simon
