Getting home page content at top of what robots see
-
When I click on the text-only cache of
nlpca(dot)com
on the home page
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:UIJER7OJFzYJ:www.nlpca.com/&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1
our H1 and body content are at the very bottom.
How do we get the h1 and content at the top of what the robots see?
Thanks!

For design purposes I never used it. Maybe a few times. Only for SEO I've really used it.
The code that you don't care about Google seeing first is what you put down on the bottom and absolute position it to the top so the website still looks the same.

Brent, I used to be a web designer. I was always told that absolute positioning was usually bad.
Also, is the code at the top that's seen first or is it the data that's absolutely positioned at the top?
-
Absolute Positioning will allow you to create a div at the bottom of the page, but display it at the top using css.
for example to have div2 display about div1, it would look like this in the code.
Google sees first.
People see firstcss code:
#div1 {width:900px;height:500px}
#div2 {position:absolute;top:-15px;width:900px;height:100px}I know it's not a very good example of code, but you should get the idea enough to start testing your layout. Also, go ahead and use this for testing. http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_position_absolute

That's OK Brent. I hope you enjoyed Mexico.
Yes, please explain more.
-
Sorry for the delay, I was in Mexico on vacation.
Did you get your answer or would you like me to explain more?
-
Could you say more Brent, I thought absolute positioning was something to stay away from from a CSS perspective. I'm open to your idea, I just need to know more.
-
Use absolute positioning to arrange the content in the order you want Search Engines to see first.

Hi there,
It will be due to the way theHTML is written. You will have to alter the HTML to reach your desired outcome. I think the HTML is rendered in the order that it appears on the page e.g. from top to bottom.
You have lots of menu options and these are listed first in the html page.
I also recommend a general review of things as your title is not appearing in the cached page either. Perhaps its because you are specifying it here as well:
name="title" content="NLP Training, Courses, Certification | NLP Institute of California" />
Hope this helps.
All the best!

Page content not being recognised?
I moved my website from Wix to Wordpress in May 2018. Since then, it's disappeared from Google searches. The site and pages are indexed, but no longer ranking. I've just started a Moz campaign, and most pages are being flagged as having "thin content" (50 words or less), when I know that there are 300+ words on most of the pages. Looking at the page source I find this bit of code: page contents Does this mean that Google is finding this and thinks that I have only two words (page contents) on the page? Or is this code to grab the page contents from somewhere else in the code? I'm completely lost with this and would appreciate any insight.

Google sees 2 home pages while I only have 1
How to solve the problem of google seeing both domain.com and domain.com/index.htm when I only have one file? Will the cannonical work? If so which? Or any other solutions for a novice? I learned from previous blogs that it needs to be done by hosting service, but Yahoo has no solution.

After I 301 redirect duplicate pages to my rel=canonical page, do I need to add any tags or code to the non canonical pages?
I have many duplicate pages. Some pages have 2-3 duplicates. Most of which have Uppercase and Lowercase paths (generated by Microsoft IIS). Does this implementation of 301 and rel=canonical suffice? Or is there more I could do to optimize the passing of duplicate page link juice to the canonical. THANK YOU!

Why do they rank the home page?
We are trying to rank for the key word Motorcycle Parts. We have moved up to page 2 over the past couple months; however, google is ranking our home page not our http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/s/49/61/Motorcycle-Parts page that is for motorcycle parts. We are working on internal linking to help point the right signals too. Any other thoughts? ( we have new content written to put in as well we just have to wait for an issue to be fixed before we can put it in)

Robots.txt file getting a 500 error - is this a problem?
Hello all! While doing some routine health checks on a few of our client sites, I spotted that a new client of ours - who's website was not designed built by us - is returning a 500 internal server error when I try to look at the robots.txt file. As we don't host / maintain their site, I would have to go through their head office to get this changed, which isn't a problem but I just wanted to check whether this error will actually be having a negative effect on their site / whether there's a benefit to getting this changed? Thanks in advance!

301 lots of old pages to home page
Will it hurt me if i redirect a few hundred old pages to my home page? I currently have a mess on my hands with many 404's showing up after moving my site to a new ecommerce server. We have been at the new server for 2 years but still have 337 404s showing up in google webmaster tools. I don't think it would affect users as very few people woudl find those old links but I don't want to mess with google. Also, how much are those 404s hurting my rank?

HTTPS attaching to home page
Hi!! Okay - weird tech question. Domain is http://hiphound.com. I have SSL attaching to checkout and my account pages. Tested and works well. Issue - I am able to reach the home page at https://hiphound.com AND http://hiphound.com. If I access the home page via HTTPS and click on a link (any link) then the site is redirected to HTTP again which is good. My concern is the home page displaying via HTTPS and HTTP. Is this is an issue that can be resolved or is it expected behavior I have to live with.? I am being told by DEV there is nothing they can do about it but want to understand why and if they are correct. Thoughts? Thank you!! Lynn
