Should I include A Description Tag for an article page
-
Hi, I am wondering if i should include a description tag for an article page where the news on that page will change around five times a day.
I am not sure if to fill a description in for local news or to leave it blank so the search engines pick up the latest local news and then the next day they show the latest local news again in the search engines instead of having a static description of the news page.
any help would be great

No problem, my advice further to this is also to try and get your site included into Google news as this is going to be one of your best traffic sources for local news.

thanks for this. i will follow your advice.

I'd agree with James.
I'd use the description and title of the news page to clearly communicate the kind of news that's going to be presented so that visitors are going to have a good understanding of what to expect when they land on your news page.
I would leave the news articles to speak for themselves instead of having to compete with the news page.
If it's local news then I'd make sure that the area covered was also clear.
You've got to think about this from the users perspective. There will be people looking out for particular news stories that interest them, so they'll be attracted by the individual article that engages them. Others, will be looking a little more broadly for news in their area, or around their topic and it's these searches that your news index page can target.
I'd also make sure that the content on my main news index had clear calls to action to help people subscribe to my news feed -RSS, mailing lists etc . (and on all the article pages too).
You can get a lot of one-touch traffic to news pages. You need to make an effort to find ways to get them coming back.

I would agree with James and say put a description tag. In addition to what he says, remember that Google choose what text to display in the description based upon the words in the query. So if the query matches something more relevant to a recent article, they will likely ignore your description tag and show a snippet of the article instead.

To be honest I would put a fixed description on the page even if it changes 5 times a day.
You can have a description which is targeted to the news page and also a title which is targeted to the news page, rather than a random news story from that day.
In my eyes having a fixed description is a better strategy.
Another thing you can look at doing is if your site is added via Google news you can obtain Google news site links for the latest news, this is more of an advanced strategy, more information here:

(only a limited number of sites have this)

New Page Showing Up On My Reports w/o Page Title, Words, etc - However, I didn't create it
I have a WordPress site and I was doing a crawl for errors and it is now showing up as of today that this page : https://thinkbiglearnsmart.com/event-registration/?event_id=551&name_of_event=HTML5 CSS3 is new and has no page title, words, etc. I am not even sure where this page or URL came from. I was messing with the robots.txt file to allow some /category/ posts that were being hidden, but I didn't re-allow anything with the above appendages. I just want to make sure that I didn't screw something up that is now going to impact my rankings - this was just a really odd message to come up as I didn't create this page recently - and that shouldnt even be a page accessible to the public. When I edit the page - it is using an Event Espresso (WordPress plugin) shortcode - and I don't want to noindex this page as it is all of my events. Sorry this post is confusing, any help or insight would be appreciated! I am also interested in hiring someone for some hourly consulting work on SEO type issues if anyone has any references. Thank you!

Page titles in browser not matching WP page title
I have an issue with a few page titles not matching the title I have In WordPress. I have 2 pages, blog & creative gallery, that show the homepage title, which is causing duplicate title errors. This has been going on for 5 weeks, so its not an a crawl issue. Any ideas what could cause this? To clarify, I have the page title set in WP, and I checked "Disable PSP title format on this page/post:"...but this page is still showing the homepage title. Is there an additional title setting for a page in WP?

How to determine which pages are not indexed
Is there a way to determine which pages of a website are not being indexed by the search engines? I know Google Webmasters has a sitemap area where it tells you how many urls have been submitted and how many are indexed out of those submitted. However, it doesn't necessarily show which urls aren't being indexed.

Changing title tag in wordpress media pages
Hello! I have a problem of duplicate title on 59 pages in Worpress. I Guess it happened after a recent WP update, because, suddenly, I got a peak of 59 from zero in a day. The SeoMoz crawl report states that there are 59 duplicate title. As you may see in the picture those are all media pages, whose title is written really badly with the formula postname/filename/blogTitle, ending up with trunkated, too long, title tags, that result in duplicate page title. How can I simply hide these mediapages or sculpting the title tag the way I want? I am using all-in-one-seo WP plugin, which doesn't seem to provide a solution. Thank you all! Implications of multiple page descriptions?
Are there any implications of using two page description properties, i.e. meta name="<a class="attribute-value">description</a>" and meta property="<a class="attribute-value">og:description</a>"

SEOMoz is indicating I have 40 pages with duplicate content, yet it doesn't list the URL's of the pages???
When I look at the Errors and Warnings on my Campaign Overview, I have a lot of "duplicate content" errors. When I view the errors/warnings SEOMoz indicates the number of pages with duplicate content, yet when I go to view them the subsequent page says no pages were found... Any ideas are greatly welcomed! Thanks Marty K.
