Webmaster Tools Showing Non-Existent Rankings
-
Hello World(pun intended)
I am seeing a phenomenal keyword phrase ranking at an avg. 9.9 on google webmaster tools but not actually seeing the ranking in reality. If i did I would be rich. Does this mean I will soon see this ranking?
-
I am still showing AWESOME rankings on WMT but nothing in real world. grrrr
-
@Nicholas That is not enterily true. A Couple weeks back Google updated, both WMT and Analytics.
Historically Google would average the position of all links displaying under every search query. Going forward they will only average the top link for each search query.
ex. If, when Dr. Jones searches for 'gloves', your links appear in position 1, 3, and 6. then Dr. Smith searches for 'gloves' and your links appear in position 2, 3, and 7 the average position would have been 3.6. (22/7) Now, under the new averaging system it would be 1.5.(3/2)for more info...

I am seeing MAYBE 2 clicks per day on that phrase and I know for a fact as I have had that ranking before, it will generate in the hundreds of clicks per day with that position. I'm thinking of sacrificing my applle IIc to the SEO gods for this to actually show up haha
-
Something is funky there, and I'm betting it's the impression numbers. I've had issues with reported impressions before in something similar like this.
With a null CTR reported in GWT, are you seeing any organic traffic from that phrase in your analytics program? If not, I'd say impressions are over represented by a few orders of magnitude.
-
<a class="sort">Query</a> <a class="sort">Impressions</a> <a class="sort">Clicks</a> <a class="sort">CTR</a> <a class="sort">Avg. position</a> auto loans 500 <10 - 9.9 -
Sounds like someone is seeing you ranked well in a personalized search, and it's tossing off that number. Is the a number of impressions received on that keyword in webmaster tools?
-
Yeah this is driving me nuts, because it isn't just appearing there and going away. Last week it was avg 15 rank now it is even moving up. So bizarre.
-
Nope
My understanding is this would be an average actual position per time it ranked, so if the phrase was searched 1000 times, and you received an impression 10 of those times, once #1 and the rest #10, but didn't rank at all for the other 990 searches, you'd see an average ranking of 9 (the average rank you were at when you actually got an impression).
-
No, I've never heard anyone mention a future good ranking in their reports before it shows up live - and given the way Google changes their algo I find that quite unlikely, too. This sounds more like a bug.

Crawl errors for pages that no longer exist
Hey folks, I've been working on a site recently where I took a bunch of old, outdated pages down. In the Google Search Console "Crawl Errors" section, I've started seeing a bunch of "Not Found" errors for those pages. That makes perfect sense. The thing that I'm confused about is that the "Linked From" list only shows a sitemap that I ALSO took down. Alternatively, some of them list other old, removed pages in the "Linked From" list. Is there a reason that Google is trying to inform me that pages/sitemaps that don't exist are somehow still linking to other pages that don't exist? And is this ultimately something I should be concerned about? Thanks!

Improved keyword ranking but less traffic
Hello fellow mozzers! My collegue and I are a bit puzzled in regards to our recent website statistics. In november 2013, we upgraded the technological platform of our website to be fully HTML5 coded, and implemented the schema.org Products scheme to systematically tag all our products on the site. To prevent too much loss of visitors, we created a 301-redirect table from almost all our old URL's to the specific new ones, as we implemented a new URL structure as well. The first few months were bumpy as expected, making a huge drop in rankings before rising up again. Our keyword rankings are better then ever (60% of the keywords in top 3, average competition, 25% more on first SERP) but our number of visits dropped by about 10%. Our bounce rate went down from 20% to 14%, our returning visits are stable, but our new visitors stats dropped by 25% as well. This comparison was made between equal periods in the current year and last year, using organic data stats. (new technical platform vs. the old one) What could be the reason that our number of visits dropped 10% while our keyword ranking is better then ever? We don't have any manual penalties in GWT and can't understand why visits would drop so much while ranking improved. May it be so easy that there's just less search volume on our ranked content or does anyone have other ideas? Thank you all in advance!

Number of clicks / organic traffic - different data in Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools
Hi. I have a little problem. When I open Google Webmaster Tools I see 3000 clicks (in Traffic - Search queries - Clicks). But when I open Google Analytics I see much more visits from search engine (Google) - it´s 4-5 times more! It´s a huge difference, don´t you think? Do you know, where is the problem? What causes this diffence? thanks a lot

Stats show /blog/wp-cron.php at the top. What is it?
Hi, I have worked with websites for years but have no clue when it comes to Wordpress. We have our main website and then a Wordpress blog running in a subfolder that is only about a year old. The blog has only 7 posts so you can see how small it is vs main website with 200 pages. Usually our main index page of the site is at the top of the stats with the most views and this page /blog/wp-cron.php is about 30% lower. Now suddenly over the last month this page has jumped to the top and accessed almost as much as the home page of the site. We took a big hit with the latest Google Update so we are tyring to determine if there is anything technical in our site that has caused an issue. Thanks in advance Force7

Distribution of SEOMOZ Ranking Metrics across all Monitored Websites
Hi, I'm looking into building a tool which would incorporate SEOMOZ ranking metrics and I have a few questions with regard to the ranking data which will help me develop it correctly. I have done a few searches, for the information but haven't found an answer to these questions on seomoz - if they exist somewhere then I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction. 1/. When looking at the values of metrics such as MozRank and DA, is there any information on how this values are distributed amongst the ranked website - EG The mean / median values of DA and MozRank etc of all websites monitored is X & Y . If there were any distribution graphs for these values then even better. 2/. Along the lines of the above - are there any online resources showing similar information for google PR? 3/. What is the calcuation used in the scale of MozRank and DA - ie We have a scale of 1-10 for these values - be we also know the scale in not linear but logrithmic - ie Double the Links of a DA 5 website and you would not end up with a DA 10 website - so what is the calculation which defines the scale. A WBF about google PR by Rand indicated that a value of between 8-9 is used in Google PR - but what about the values used for DA and MozRank etc? Many thanks for your help

Is there any way to see how one my keywords ranked historically before I started tracking it?
Hello there! I'm in need of some historical data on some keywords as they relate to my site. Basically, I'd like to track which events have had the most impact on moving me through the rankings, but I wasn't using Moz at the time I had made some changes to my website... Is there any way to see how I ranked for a particular keyword at a given point in time? Thanks! Gene

Best SEO Analysis Tool
I'm looking for a tool that will analyze a webpage for a specific keyword phrase and deliver good recommendations as to what I can do (on page and off page) to increase the Google ranking for that keyword phrase. I'm trying IBP now, but so far the results haven't been good. Any suggestions?

Google +1 and ranking effect .
Anyone have any experience as to what effect google +1 has on ranking? Trying to figure out what impact it might have. Ecommerce site in norway selling childrens clothing. Atm we are ranking 25th for main targetted word childrens clothing (barneklær in norwegian). on google.no this has a difficulty of 34. None of main competitors have any amount of google +1's on their site. Lets say if I in some way could manage to get 100 ppl to push +1 button. Would this affect our ranking at all ? Might be impossible to answer but if anyone has thoughts about it I am interested. Thanks
