RSS Feed Errors in Google
-
We recently (2 months ago) launched RSS feeds for the category pages on our site. Last week we started seeing error pages in Webmaster Tools' Crawl Errors report pop up for feeds of old pages that have been deleted from the site, deleted from the sitemap, and not in Google's index since long before we launched the RSS feeds.
Example: www.mysite.com/super-old-page/feed/
I checked and both the URL for the feed and the URL for the actual page are returning 404 statuses.
www.mysite.com/super-old-page/ is also showing up in our Crawl Errors. Its been deleted for months but Webmaster Tools is very slow to remove the page from their Crawl Error report.
Where is Google finding these feeds that never existed?

These are often hard to diagnose, but you have a few options for digging out the source of these links. First of all, you want to make absolutely sure they aren't coming from your site. Unfortunately, most of the time we usually miss something when removing old pages, and our own site is the cause of the problem.
1. Check Google Webmaster Tools - In the same place they list the 404 errors, they will often tell you where they found the page under a column named "Linked From" Here's a screenshot: https://skitch.com/cyrusshepard/8jrqx/webmaster-tools-crawl-errors-http-truefabrications.com
Clicking on the pages listed will often uncover the source of the link.
2. Try Screaming Frog or Xenu to crawl your site and see if the RSS feeds or links appear.
3. Or one of the SEOmoz crawlers, such as the PRO web app or the Custom Crawl tool.
Unfortunately, if the pages aren't coming from your site, (they could be coming from old feeds that others scraped a long time ago) then about the only thing you can do is file a removal request with Google. This can be a slow and tedious process if you have a number of pages.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO!

Website crawl error
Hi all, When I try to crawl a website, I got next error message: "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal cookie name" For the moment, I found next explanation: The errors indicate that one of the web servers within the same cookie domain as the server is setting a cookie for your domain with the name "path", as well as another cookie with the name "domain" Does anyone has experience with this problem, knows what it means and knows how to solve it? Thanks in advance! Jens

Wrong page title in Google
Hi there, A while ago we took over the domain www.hoesjes.nl and forwarded it to our website www.telefoonhoesjesxl.nl. If you perform a search for the keyword 'hoesjes' in Google then we (www.telefoonhoesjesxl.nl) show up on an organic number 1 position. The problem is that the page title isn't correct. Google shows the page title of the website hoesjes.nl we took over and (correctly?) redirected to our domain www.telefoonhoesjesxl.nl. Does anybody have any idea how to get rid of this wrong page title in Google?

Google Enterprise Search Questions
Hi Everybody, A client has asked me to take a look at Google Enterprise Search for them. It has been a few years since I last fooled around with implementing a Google search box on a website, and that was the free version which included off-site results in the results. This appears to be the main page describing the paid product: http://www.google.com/enterprise/search/ I have three questions: The search testing function on the above page doesn't seem to be working. I'm typing in a URL and search term, as prompted, and the page is simply refreshing. It never provides me an example set of results. Is it working for you? This client has a moderately large e-commerce site (about 200 products). Have you implemented Google enterprise search on such a site and are you happy with its performance? The goal here is to let users search for a topic and be returned both product and informational pages. How well does this tool do this? Am I going to need to know any special types of coding (beyond html/css) to implement this? If so, what are they? If you have experience with this product, I would surely appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Dealing with 410 Errors in Google Webmaster Tools
Hey there! (Background) We are doing a content audit on a site with 1,000s of articles, some going back to the early 2000s. There is some content that was duplicated from other sites, does not have any external links to it and gets little or no traffic. As we weed these out we set them to 410 to let the Goog know that this is not an error, we are getting rid of them on purpose and so the Goog should too. As expected, we now see the 410 errors in the Crawl report in Google Webmaster Tools. (Question) I have been going through and "Marking as Fixed" in GWT to clear out my console of these pages, but I am wondering if it would be better to just ignore them and let them clear out of GWT on their own. They are "fixed" in the 410 way as I intended and I am betting Google means fixed as being they show a 200 (if that makes sense). Any opinions on the best way to handle this? Thx!

Google webmaster showing 0 indexed, yet I can see them all them Google search?
I can see them all the pages showing up in Google when i search for my site. But in webmaster tools under the sitemaps section in the indexed pages - the red bar is showing 0 indexed pages, even though they seem to be indexed. Any idea why is this showing like this? I don’t really think it’s that important as the pages are still indexed, but it just seems odd. Please see in the image.

HTML Encoding Error
Okay, so this is driving me nuts because I should know how to find and fix this but for the life of me cannot. One of the sites I work for has a long-standing crawl error in Google WMT tools for the URL /a%3E that appears on nearly every page of the site. I know that a%3E is an improperly encoded > but I can't seem to find where exactly in the code its coming from. So I keep putting it off and coming back to it every week or two only to wrack my brain and give up on it after about an hour (since its not a priority and its not really hurting anything). The site in question is https://www.deckanddockboxes.com/ and some of the pages it can be found on are /small-trash-can.html, /Dock-Step-Storage-Bin.html, and /Standard-Dock-Box-Maxi.html (among others). I figured it was about time to ask for another set of eyes to look at this for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RSS Feeds
It is highly preached that RSS is a great way to get backlinks. Can somebody explain me how go to about RSS, or direct me to a good source on Internet where I can learn all about RSS feeds and how to implement them? I know there are many reasonable RSS feeds services available out there, but I don't want to go for them. If at all I'd like to first learn myself and then decide on what to do. Please help.
