Breadcrumbs how important are they
-
Hi, i am working on a joomla template site and i am just wondering how important the breadcrumbs are.
I have one installed at the moment but what i have noticed is, what is showing on the main menu is showing on the breadcrumbs so i am not sure if i really need the breadcrumbs module.
any help and advice would be great

so you suggest that i get rid of the breadcrumbs and just keep the other menu's then

Effectively it looks weird... from what I see, you have two breadcrumbs: - the first is the one just under the "cheap flight" menu (which, when you move your mouse over, shows itself correctly) - the second just under it and just above the body area. So, I wonder if the cheap flight menu is correct there, or would have needed to be a dropdown menú of a category "Cheap Flight". If I was you I would look that. And I would check also the breadcrumb module: are you using the Joomla original one (it seems so by the second) or are using also another module with the same function (at it seems from the first)... the correct one is the second, by the way. Finally... if the architecture of the site is going to flat as it is now (just one level), then the breadcrumb is not necessary. It is when the navigational levels are more (i.e.: home - category - subcategory - product/article).

thank you for that. this is my problem, the site i am working on is the following
http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com/ and my problem is, the main menu is then copied onto the breadcrumbs, which i do not understand.
is there an example of a site that uses breadcrumbs
and will my site look silly by having two menus the same

Hi Diane,
I personally suggest you to maintain the breadcrumbs in your Joomla site.
Even though, when it come to SEO, they are not a primary on factor, surely they are taken into consideration by Google, so much that Google may use them in the SERPs snippets (as well explained by Bill Slawski in this post.
Surely, being the breadcrumbs nothing else than a schemating link representation of the "navigational branch" of the page, it helps search engines understanding the navigational architecture of the site.
A good resource about breadcrumbs and SEO is this old but still valid post by Ann Smarty on Search Engine Journal.
Finally, the breadcrumbs have a great usability importance, because they make really easy for any users to move throughout the content navigation of the site. Surely, as some tests prove, it is a page per visit incentive. You can read more about its usability advantages in this post

Hi! As above, I wrote this article on my medium blog but am now launching my site, UnderstandingJiuJitsu.com. I have the post saved as a draft because I don't want to get pinged by google. a) how can I get a canonical tag on medium without importing and b) any issue with claiming the UJJ.com post is original when medium was posted first? Thanks and health, Elliott

Breadcrumbs with JSON-LD
Just a quick question re implementation of JSON-ID breadcrumbs You are here: Acme Company → Electronics → Computers → Laptops So in this example laptops is my current page without a link on the visible on-page breadcrumb. When implementing JSON-LD BreadcrumbList should Laptops be included in the schema snippet, or commence from Computers to home?

Schema.org markup for breadcrumbs: does it finally work?
Hi, TL;DR: Does https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList work? It's been some time since I last implemented schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. Back then the situation was that google explicitly discouraged the use of the schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. In my experience it had been pretty hit or miss - sometimes it worked without issues; sometimes it did not work without obvious reason. Consequently, I ditched it for the data-vocabulary.org markup which did not give me any issues. However, I prefer using schema.org and currently a new site is being designed for a client. Thus, I'd like to use schema.org markup for the breadcrumb - but of course only if it works now. Google has dropped the previous warning/discouragements and by now lists a schema.org code https://developers.google.com/structured-data/breadcrumbs based on the new-ish https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList. Has anybody here used this markup on a site (preferably more than one) and can confirm whether or not it is reliably working and showing the breadcrumb trail / site hierarchy in the SERP? Thanks for your answers! Nico

Is Schema markup important for SEO?
I have recently come across the Schema markup and have researched what it's all about. Basically in short it helps search engines identify all the elements of the page. Our competitors have this implementated, so is this important for SEO? We have an e commerce store.

Image Height/Width attributes, how important are they and should a best practice site include this as std
Hi How important are the image height/width attributes and would you expect a best practice site to have them included ? I hear not having them can slow down a page load time is that correct ? Any other issues from not having them ? I know some re social sharing (i know bufferapp prefers images with h/w attributes to draw into their selection of image options when you post) Most importantly though would you expect them to be intrinsic to sites that have been designed according to best practice guidelines ? Thanks

Importance of correction of technical errors
Hello everyone!!! I have question that i know it has been asked so many times. However i am looking for an idea for my specific situation. I own a website about commercial steel. My main focus has been getting incoming links from important companies and sites, while maintaining a good quality site. Ive been struggling with ranks and Page Authority. Ive never put attention to technical errors such as Duplicate Content, 4XX Errors and critical warnings such as Redirects. I have around 70 errors and around 400 warnings. Someone told me that as long as the website is "user friendly" i should worry about that. I have scarce resources to my SEO efforts. Which aspect should i put more effort?. Link Building and Quality Content vs Technical SEO ??? Is there a recommended balance mix towards a better PA, DA and Overall Quality?? I know is difficult, but it would be extremely helpful to hear from you!! Regards.

Is Pinging important?
Somebody suggested me to ping my website's backlinks using services like www.Pingler.com. Firstly, I don't know what 'pinging' is and why is it important. Secondly, Should I go for it? Lastly, what kind of links should I ping regularly? I researched on google and got a feeling that only blogs should be pinged because they are updated regularly. Is that so?
