Competitive analysis of inbound links
-
I am trying to figure out how to best use SeoMoz tools to do some competitive analysis of inbound links.
With the site explorer tool I can "compare Link Metrics" I see that a competitor is beating me on External Followed Links and Total Linking Root domains. I want to dig further into this data and see how these are distributed. What I am really after is which root domains are sending them the most links. Knowing that 20k of their links are coming from 5 specific root urls would be great to know. Is there anywhere that I can see this data. Ideal column headers would be:
- Linking Root Domain
-
of Followed Links (from this root domain)
- Linking Domain Authority
The ability to drill down from there into specific links would be mind blowing.
Is there any way to browse this type of data in SeoMoz?

Hi Dan,
The only difficulty is that OSE limits the number of links from each domain to 25 per report. This limit is meant to display a greater variety of linking domains. Without this limit, the reports could be filled with 10,000 low-quality, repeating sidebar links all from the auto-generated blog.
One option would be to use the SEOmoz API to find the data you're looking for, but building a tool just for this purpose might be a bit overkill for this application.
Here's a solution that should work easy. Check out Dr. Pete's post on Link Profiling with Open Site Explorer. He provides some tools for a deeper analysis of link distribution you should find insightful.
When your done with that, try out these Excel speadsheets from John Doherty. They look both at PA and DA of your backlinks, as well as the added bonus of anchor text distribution.
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Hi Dan, SEO Competitor analysis could be simply defined as a process of discovering why competing websites are highly ranked by the search engines.
The first step is using your keyword research data to do a detailed analysis as to whatwebsites are competing for the same keywords and phrases. From there, detailed analysis of their websites construction will yield clues as to how they are achieving good ranking in search engines.
For you to understand the Dan you should look at the Deep Approach to Competitive Analysis & after that competitor site analysis & back link analysis also.
I hope that your query of competitive analysis of inbound links has been solved.

Only 2 Inbound Links which are the Redirect 301 Links
Hello Everyone, We're having a serious Problem with the ranking of our website so we started testing the website in different Tools. Almost all of the tools say our website works great and in comparision to our competitors we win in almost every test – but we rank behind them. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that our website has only 2 Inbound links (Open Site Explorer) when the link source is set to only internal. And the only links shown are 2 links that come from the old http (we're using https) and redirect 301 to our https. No other links – in other tools we have around 80 internal links to our rmain https-webadress. Does anyone have an idea where that comes from? I'm afraid this might be our issue in ranking behind of lots of our competitors. Lokking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

8 point decrease in DA, increase in search traffic- should I disavow links?
Would a decrease in DA reflect the need to disavow junk links? My branded keywords recently bumped down two spots, whereas the keywords which have been bringing me the most traffic have been unaffected. Site: Edwardsturm.com DA decrease of 8 over past 3 months. Keyword "Edward Sturm" recently moved to second spot.

How accurate is SEOMoz's keyword analysis tool?
For the most part, SEOMoz's keyword analysis tool has been in line with other tools like Adwords keyword tool with regards to competitive level. I have just encountered a keyword though that a client may choose to compete on that seems to be far off. keyword phrase: online math games Adwords competitive level: Low SEOMoz competitive level: 80 This seems like a sizeable difference (I know the two compare all results vs first page authority's, but typically they are in line with each other). With other related keywords for the industry in question, SEOMoz and Adwords seem to be in line. This one just got me thinking. I know the SEOMoz score is a sign of the strength of the top results and that the "low" score from Adwords may be a sign of much weaker results on the following pages (with a higher number of weaker pages vs fewer high authority outliers). **Question: ** How accurate is SEOMoz keyword analysis tool and what other keyword analysis tools are you guys/gals using that you like? I have tried others but many provide duplicate insights.

How do I get a link in my blog bio signature on my Youmoz posts?
I've done several Youmoz posts and only recently noticed for some reason that other authors have included author links and links to their websites in their bio section at the end. I edited mine with a full URL but it only shows up as text. No editor there when you edit your profile so no way of adding a link. Anyone know how this is done?

Links from External Sites not Showing on OpenSite or Google Webmaster Tools
Hi, I asked this in another post, but didn't get a solid answer. For several websites I manage, I have access to their Google Webmaster Tools. When I put the site through there, or the link:// or SEOMoz's OpenSite link reporter, I get not even a fraction of the links that I know are pointing to the websites in question. Some of these links are from home pages or side columns, and some are from articles keep within a website, like at Inc.com. I wondered if the links in question were not themselves being indexed, but if I do a very specific search, I can pull them up in the search results. Is it just common knowledge that these link tools are not accurate? And to assume that somehow, search engines really do see all of the inbound links, even if our reporting tools don't. Thanks in advance!
