Why do rankings show differentley when checked from different computers
-
When I check for keyword rankings directly in Google or Bing, I find relatively high ratings. when my client checks at his location, he gets another ranking, much lower. What accounts for the difference?

Thanks to all. I think I've figured it out now. First time on here and am very impressed with the quick help.

It can be one of many reasons, however if you want to be sure... The SEOmoz RankTracker will suffice correct placements.
-
Use the SEOMoz rank tracking tool (http://ranktracker.seomoz.org/) for objective - non personalized or influenced - ranking results.
-
Google uses your unique IP address to give you the most relevant results based on your past search activity through Google’s personalized search. Your location can also play a role in this.
Not only is this the answer but I am providing the solution to help you get your accurate rankings:

Personalized results.
-
Location. If you are pegged as being in a different geographical location (San Francisco vs Palo Alto) you will get different results.
-
User History: If you're logged into Google, you will get results based on your personal search history, +1's, etc.
When I'm doing my rankings checks, I make sure I'm logged out and my location is set to the most generic for my use case (in my case 'United States', but yours may be a state or nearby metro region).

Are you and your client in the same location/ city? If not, that could just be the answer as Google gives different results based on location.
Also, are you 'logged in' to Google Account while searching? Personalized (logged in) search results are different from search results that show up when you are not logged in. For e.g. If you searched for a phrase, and clicked on your site, then the next time you search similar phrase, your website will show up higher than it actually is for majority of users (including your client)

One or both of you probably has personalized search results on, or localized search results on

My Ave. position and ranking is dropping!
Hi, I added canonicals last two days, and made a tiny change is our meta titles. (adding a secondary keyword). Now my ave. position and visibility has dropped very much. Can it be canonicals or is it the keywords? Can canonicals affect the website so quickly? My other question is can it be temporarily so should I wait more? how long? I should mention that our website content is not really good and I'm working on it. When I added meta tags we had a big jump in our ranking and then we stopped getting better,. But now we are going down! Can it be the content? Sorry I know that it is actually all, but i do not know which one matters more and do not understand why it happened immediately after adding canonicals. Our website is: www.pacificsmoke.com Appreciate your advice.

https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-rankings-of-nike-running-shoes I even started getting traffic from these URLs that are in Google's index. So, only the first one actually existins on my site: https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-nike-running-shoes https://mysite.com/ranking**/rankings-of-rankings-of-**rankings-of-nike-running-shoes https://mysite.com/ranking/**rankings-of-**rankings-of-nike-running-shoes Questions are:
a. I'm not sure how the latter two - 2) and 3) - got in Google's index.
b. what do I do with them. My idea is to 301 redirect them to the actual page that exists https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-nike-running-shoes Do I need to also somehow remove the faulty URLs - 2) and 3) - from Google's index or 301 redirecting is enough?0 -

SERP Title shows up-with-dashes
Occasionally I see the our 'listings' on Google where the Title line shows up with dashes... like sony-professional-hard-drive - TapeandMedia.com It appears to be the URL shortened and rehashed. This example was after I searched for "Sony PSZ-HA1T" without the quotes. The title for this page is <title></span><span class="html-tag">Sony 1TB Professional Portable External Hard Disk Drive (PSZ-HA1T)</span><span class="html-tag"></title> and the url is http://www.tapeandmedia.com/sony-1tb-professional-portable-hard-drive.asp Link to image: http://i.imgur.com/FmvAn6c.jpg Other searches (like "Sony 1tb PSZ-HA1T") yield normal looking SERP Titles Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to avoid this? I have used a number of different tools for getting ranking information and have been using Cuterank but it now seems to be report the wrong results. Any suggestions for the best third party ranking software. It would allow me to check google, yahoo and bing ranks, compare month on month and produce branded PDFs. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What tool do you use to check for URLs not indexed?
What is your favorite tool for getting a report of URLs that are not cached/indexed in Google & Bing for an entire site? Basically I want a list of URLs not cached in Google and a seperate list for Bing. Thanks, Mark
