Domain vs. page authority?
-
hey
i've been told that page auth is more important than domain authrity on open site..
why is that?
-
Yes, unless your desire is to have the home page rank higher. Typically a link to a domain is to the home page.
-
thanks for the answer...
i take it that means backlinking to specific pages ie. domain.com/widget is better than getting links to the main domain?
-
When ranking for keywords, remember that SERPs are for pages and not for sites. So, if you had a site with a DA of 50 and a page with a PA of 1 (new page for example) and the keyword was widget, you will be ranked against other widget pages. So, someone with a PA of 27 and a DA of 27 versus someone with a PA of 1 and a DA of 50, the higher PA will rank ahead all other things being equal.
Also, when you get a link from a site, juice you get is based on the PA and not the DA. So if there are 3 links from a page with a PA of 30 you will get roughly 10 for each link. (Even if the DA is 98).
Hope this helps

Increasing Domain Authority scores
Ok, a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' type question this... Looking for the opinions of wiser users than myself in trying to work out how long is a realistic target for getting my domain authority somewhere near that of my competitors. I have been tracking my domain and three competitors in the campaign tool for a few months and they seem to average about 0.5 increase a month in their DA - they are averaging around 65 DA each. My site is currently DA 32, has increased from 21 in 5 months. Is this a decent rate of increase? How long would people expect it to take to increase a domain by 10, 20 etc? I know there are too many variables in the world of seo for a complete 'do this and this will happen' answer, but it's good to have a DA goal to work to, it acts as a good motivator for staff, especially when you begin to close in on competitors. Thanks, Carl

Campaigns - domains / sub domains
Dear SEOmoz folk, At the moment, I have one (rather large) site set up as a campain. I have decided to split off parts of my site into sub domains. My question is, can I set up these sub domains as a completely separate campaign on here? I'd very much like the crawl reports separated out for each one. A very real fear I have is that my site is well over double 10,000 pages, so I never truly see the actual number of errors that I have. Thoughts appreciated. Many thanks, Matt

SEOMOZ Competitive Domain Analysis
Hi, I am just trying to get to the bottom of why I am seeing such wildly different figures in the SEOMOZ link analysis. The SEO company that we use is saying that we have around 331 external links to our website, when I check on Yahoo site explorer, it returns 264 external links, but in my SEOMOZ campaign manager, it says I have 4 external links? I fully appreciate that none of these methods are going to be wholly accurate, and are going to produce different results, but I can't understand why the SEOMOZ results are so vastly different. I also know for a fact there are a number of Followed links that I have added to a couple of websites, that Google has now indexed (as they appear in search results), but don't appear in the campaign manager results. If SEOMOZ use a different method to assess an external link, then no problem - my main concern here is that as a Newbie I am doing something wrong within the SEOMOZ tools, and don't want to take action based on results that may be incorrect because I have set things up incorrectly? Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Gareth
