Can anyone recommend a great seo company?
-
We are considering contracting with an SEO company for website analysis, optimization and organic link-building. If you've had any recommendations, please send them our way. Thank you!
-
We're obviously biased...so we won't say "us."
Keri's message is great, but I would recommend doing the following when you're in the process of evaluating them:
-check out their title tag of their own website; it always confuses me that an SEO company doesn't SEO their own website. If you need help with evaluating other factors that might point out what they're trying to optimize for their own efforts, let us know (i.e., the h1, h2 tags, meta description, image file names, alt text, etc.)
-if you need reference on pricing, here's a good recent post from Rand about costs: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seo-pricing-costs-of-services and another post debating/discussing the topic: http://www.seomoz.org/q/2011-sseo-pricing-costs-what-should-you-charge-how-much-should-you-pay
-definitely ask for more than 3 or so case studies, if possible.
-usually a quick answer is a wrong answer in our minds. Almost every client has different needs. We always hesitate when someone asks us "how much will it cost?" or "how long will it take?" While we have standard pricing created because many people do ask for the pricing details right away, I would argue that each case is like taking on a new patient for a doctor. There's a bit of history with that patient before they see the new doctor.
-thus, they should be asking you guys a lot of questions. Wouldn't you want a doctor to do that?
DigiJoltMan is right for the most part, but there are also a number of firms that charge a bit more than they potentially should. So, the reverse is true as well.
Gotta run, but let us know if you need any other questions. I think it's great you're asking here. Good luck!

I agree that you need to have deep pockets for quality SEO - and even then, I believe that no one can do it better than you with enough time & resources.
Great content that gets others to link to you from high authority sites.
Make sure you have clean code on your site.
Use H1 tags where appropriate.
People debate whether meta tags matter or not, but they certainly don't hurt.
Create a blog and write unique content about your industry with quality writing.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, Andrew!

My company is still in the process of evaluating these guys:

So far they seem pretty knowledgeable and educated on the subject. Pricing seems pretty reasonable.

How deep are your pockets. A great SEO company costs money. Just so you know you get what you pay for. avoid anyone that offers guaranteed results/positions in google.
You pay peanuts you get monkeys!

Hiring for SEO Outreach
Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day! We're a family owned wine club startup and have been handling SEO in house since things didn't go well with a previous SEO company (and sure we've done plenty of bad stuff along the way as well). In any case, we're writing a blog, including video entries etc. I've been handling basic email outreach about posts (ie if I write a winery profile, asking the winery to link to it) but don't really have time to handle more significant outreach than that. Can anyone make some suggestions about where to hire someone for an outreach job like this? It would undoubtedly be part time and Elance didn't give us anyone we were comfortable with. Thanks in advance!

External Backlinks - Should I remove/disavow external blog posts done by SEO company?
Last year my company hired an SEO company to build backlinks for targeted achor text keywords. It turns out that they wrote average to below average blog posts that had content related to my business, but that were placed on odd websites, not related to my business. They did this for about one year before I fired them. Should I try to get each of those blog posts removed and then disavow them? If the external links back to my site are nofollow then it is my understanding that I don't really need to worry about them...is that accurate? Is it too risky to keep any external backlinked content alive when it is on a site that is unrelated to my business?

Anyone used this service before? - Organic Content Distribution
I was pitched today by a "content syndication network" that claims to be able to syndicate across 200 "local news" sites along with syndicate the content to the editors and writers social sites, along with the publisher social sites for a flat fee. Just like a MarketWire.com service but NOT for press releases. For articles. The company offering this is www.befirstinc.com. Need to vett them out and make sure this is not a FTC nor Google Quality Guidelines violation for SEO purposes.

Utilizing Print Media for SEO
Hey SEO MOZ, We have a client that holds the license to a famous Australian designer. The Designer and our client both get mentioned a lot in the print world. They get coverage in publications like the New York Times, Home and Garden Magazine and other top print media publications. Sometimes it's our clients business name mentioned and sometimes it's the designer's name who they hold the rights too. I'm wondering how we can utilize this exposure for their SEO? It already drives traffic to their website but it also be great to harness this exposure to increase their rankings. I know one way is to see if the article is also printed online and see if you can get a link on their. But I'm wondering if there are other ways to use this? Also do you have experience contacting major publications to see if they can put a link in an online published article and if they ever respond to these requests? Really appreciate this!

SEO Value of Press Releases
Is there still any SEO value of paid press releases services, such as PRWEB which let you embed keyword text links? Or would the associated cost be better spent elsewhere? Thanks
