Can I specify a url for a keyword in the rank checker tool?
-
Hello!
I'm new to seomoz and excited to learn the system. I created a campaign and added keywords but I'm not clear how the seomoz campaign rankings tool works.
As an example, one of my keywords 'cigar cutters' is reporting at position 20 for url http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_guillotine-cutters.html.
However, I think it would be better target to focus that keyword on http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_cutters.html. as a search for 'cigar cutters' could encompass either a guillotine cutter, punch cutter or cigar scissors.
Is there any way to assign http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_cutters.html to the term 'cigar cutters' in the campaign ranking report?

Just wanted to follow up - how's your stuff looking?
-
yes. if you go to "see all keyword rankings" in your campaign, you will get a list of your keywords and how they are ranking. clicking on the individual keyword will show you how it's doing in search results, with all pages ranking highlighted.
this will work after they email you indicating your report is ready. right now, you're just getting a "starter crawl." no rush, you'll be fine...
-
So your guess would be after they send that email that they're finished I should see 'humidor sale' ranking for both urls?
-
It depends on the size of the site. Give it a couple of days. They'll send you an email when they're finished. After that, you'll get a weekly report, and they'll email you when it comes in.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any help.

Havent made any page changes. Could it be that since I just signed up yesterday it still has to complete aggregating all of the data? I still get the welcome message saying "good data takes time" but there is no indication as to how long it takes seomoz to complete the rankings check.
-
Ahhh, I see. Two things could be happening.
- You could have changed the second page since SEO Moz ran the campaign report. It is run weekly, and therefore may not be current. You may have changed things, gotten recrawled, and the campaign just hasn't seen it yet. However, Rank Checker is pulling current data.
- (more likely) - click on the actual keyword in your report. Don't download the CSV, just click on the actual keyword. It will give you the top 50 results for that specific keyword. The CSV that contains all keywords will just show you the top result.
That work?
-
That's strange. When I exported the csv from the campaign rankings tool, the term 'humidor' sale only showed up once as ranking for http://www.cheaphumidors.com/ but http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_medium-humidors.html also ranks at #17 according to the seomoz rank tracker research tool.
-
Forgot to specify - as long as they are on the same domain. If you want to track two domains, you can use two campaigns, or just set one up as a competitor
-
Yes. I don't have an image uploaded to point to, but you will see every instance that you rank for the keyword. It will show up as multiple points within the graph, and every page on your site that ranks will be highlighted in green in the listing of search results.
-
So if the search term, 'cigar cutters' was ranking in the top 50 for both urls, it would show up twice in the report?
-
In your campaign ranking report, it will show all rankings in the top 50 for your domain. So, if you have 2 words ranking for "cigar cutters" both will show up. You can see this by clicking on the keyword in your report. The list of keywords with all of the rankings will show you the top position.
If you go to tools, then "rank checker," you can do this manually. Put in the exact URL and search for the keyword that you are targeting.
Does that help?

Other tools to check keyword competition/difficulty
I really like the Keyword Analysis tool/process at MOZ, particularly the composite score of keyword difficulty. However, on my budget/account level I can only check 400 kw's per day and sometimes that's not enough. So my question is... What other tools do you rely on or recommend to provide a preliminary measure of competition for a keyword? Not Adwords competition, but the kind of analysis Moz does by looking at specific ranking factors like phrase the page authority, domain authority, kw in title tag, URL, anchor text, number of external links to the page, etc. Are there any other tools you'd recommend for checking those kind of competition/difficulty factors for a keyword? I know SpyFu.com, Open Site Explorer, Majestic, etc will provide backlink metrics, but hoping for something more comprehensive. Thanks!!

Ranking keyword ecommerce product
Hi guys, I run an ecommerce store footdistrict.com. We sell sneakers. My question relates to the name of some of my products and how to rank for them. This concerns to the shoes from New Balance The name of this products follows this format: New Balance XXNumberXXX . But actually I have realized I am ranking for New Balance XXNumber XXX . Note the space between the number and the last 3 characters. All my titles, h1, keywords follow this format. Example: New Balance WL574 RUP vs New Balance WL574RUP My questions are: 1. How would you determine which keyword to rank for: New Balance XXNumberXXX or New Balance XXNumber XXX? I have thought of using analytics data to see the pattern of the users search or maybe the difficulty of the keyword? I am receiving a decent amount of traffic for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I wonder if it'd be higher ranking for New Balance XXNumberXXX 2. Does the algorithmn take into account this space? According to the On page Grader, I have an A for New Balance XXNumber XXX and a F for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I assume the engine doesn't work this way 3. What would you do? Thanks very much Kind regards

Why are we not ranking? We have done all we can think of. Can you help?
We have an old domain that we have had for years now. And recently. December, we completely redesigned the site, I mean a complete overhaul, design, architecture, asp to php for example. Resubmitted to google via webmaster with a new site map etc. Our website for reference is www.completeoffice.co.uk. We are trying to rank in UK google, www.google.co.uk, for the term office refurbishment kent (we are on page 2) and office refurbishment (we are on page 17). This is confusing me, because thats 7 pages lower than we were originally, before the site design, its better seo wise, duplicate content is none, title tage meta tags all correct, domain authority has doubled from 12 to 24 in a few months all in an effort to rank better. our homepage and office refurb pages both got an A on the on page SEOmoz tool test. So we dont understand why we are not ranking highly. It seems sites, much uglier and less seo friendly than our with same or lower domain authority are ranking at least 10 pages higher than us. Why is this? Can anyone help or give us a few suggestions. All help greatly appreciated. SEOmozzers.

Can you track the same keywords across multiple campaigns?
I have a few clients in similar industries across the country and I'm wondering if it's possible to track the same keywords (for instance, air conditioner repair, faucet replacement) across more than one campaign, or if I'll had to reupload the same keyword list for each one. Thanks!!

Is the keyword difficulty tool the most helpful in all situations?
I understand that the scores it generates are essentially based on the difficulty of appearing on the first SERP for the keyword in question. That said, I am having a lot of difficulty finding keywords in my niche which return a score that would make this easily achievable for a site of my size.... The reason I'm pointing this out is because theoretically, a keyword could have a HIGHLY competitive first SERP, with a significant drop-off on the second SERP, which would make achieving a top ranking on that page substantially easier. So my question really is, is the importance of appearing on the first SERP so unequivocally important that it is a pointless activity to attempt deliberately to rank for keywords on the second SERP, which is ignored by the keyword difficulty tool? I know the breakdown of clicks goes something like 40% for top spot, 12% for second and downwards from there, but if a certain query has over a million searches per month, for example, it would still be possible to get considerable amounts of traffic by trying to rank highly on the second SERP, which the keyword difficulty tool cannot help with. So is this really a useless activity?
