Domain Forwarding Help
-
A friend of mine is a domainer and he wants to forward 21 parked niche specific domains to my site for extra type-in traffic. This will turn out to be 30 extra hits a day. Obviously, since these are parked domains, the SEO benefits are none, we just want the traffic.
My questions is how to do it.
These are his parked domains, and will not be redirected forever, is a 302 redirect the best plan here? He planned on just going into his hosting/domain admin and selecting "forward domain" -- is this ok too?
Also, he would prefer to forward these domains to a single domain he owns, and then forward that single domain he owns to my domain. So someone who types in one of these 21 domains will go
typindomain.com ---> hisredirectsite.com ---->mysite.com
any implications here?
What is the best option and how to do it?
Thanks

Both Shane and Nakul gave some good advice, so I'll just add my 2 cents.
As your domain is new, this could have serious implications for your site and it's ability to rank. I can't say for certain it would hurt, but it sure would make it a likely candidate for an algorithmic penalty.
302s sound better than 301s to me, but even that many 302's redirecting to such a young site should throw up spam warnings galore at the Googleplex.
Additionally, adding the extra layer of his site...
typindomain.com ---> hisredirectsite.com ---->mysite.com
...might actually complicate things instead of making them better.
In the end, I think there might be easier ways to gain the same amount of traffic in a long-lasting, low risk way.

"He is willing to redirect to just my site instead of through his. Do you think this decreases my chances of raising a flag?"
-Decrease or not, the chance of a red flag is significant either way. Seems like there are less risky ways to gain 30 visits/day.
-
Many of his domains were at one point used as directory domains in which they all linked to each other. This was in 2003-2006. (I'm not sure if this qualifies as "parked")
They have all pretty much been parked since then.
Searching their "sitename.com" in google always gives me the particular site as the #1 result, so google knows.

Just make sure any of these domains do not have any history in the Search engines. Check archive.org and check the SERPS, Open Site Explorer etc to make sure if they are/were unknown to the Search Engines. If that's the case, there's nothing to worry about.

My domain is new. I have put up 13 articles on it over the past few months.
He is willing to redirect to just my site instead of through his. Do you think this decreases my chances of raising a flag?

Is your site brand new or relatively old/established ? If it's relatively old/established, do you really care about the extra 30 uniques a day from 30 domains ? If it's a brand new site, relatively new(ish), and it does not have a link profile of it's own, I'd probably not do it. It just sounds scary.
However, going back to if you are established and have have strong domain authority, link profile, redirecting domains is not an issue. EG, Apple.com has tons of domains that redirect. Some of them have lots of history in the SERPS. Think of all kinds of mis-spell domains, trademark domains and so on. So whatever makes sense from a usability perspective, definitely do it.
In my opinion, it's a very clear, think line.

Yes the traffic is related to my site. It is a fishing site and the forwarded domains are all fishing related type-ins.
-
I agree with Shane- non converting traffic isn't beneficial, as well as the ip funneling/ domain funnel concept is on Penguin's radar. While not an immediate drop in rankings when big G hit 's the big shiny re-do button on Penguin you run the risk of flagged- or flogged as it were.
-
Is this traffic that is actually expected to convert?
Then if so IMHO the risk could possibly pay off, as (not sure) but this might be a bad Idea post penguin....
Even though you are not trying to manipulate for rankings - just off the top of my head this seems like a bad idea and possibly a red flag to the algo - especially if done all at once.
I am not fully sure on this, so look forward to others responses.

I want to use a domain that has previously been forwarded elsewhere. Any considerations?
There's a domain name (we will call it A) with no domain authority that is currently forwarded to a domain with 36 DA (we will call this domain B). B has been dormant for about two years. I am getting both domains, but domain A works better for what I will be using it for. So basically, I want to swap things around so B forwards to A, instead of A forwarding to B. Any dangers here or things to consider that I may be overlooking?

New domain wipes out domain authority
A client wanted to change their domain name, which we have now done. The site content itself is exactly the same. We put 301 redirect links in so that Google searchers would redirect from the old site to the new one. However Moz then said that it couldn't crawl the old domain because of the redirects and advised creating a brand new campaign for the new domain. We have done this but now Moz says that the domain authority of the new site is 2 (it was 14 on the old domain). Specifics are:

old domain: https://ryemeadcleaning.co.uk
new domain: https://ryemeadgroup.co.uk So basically it seems like we're starting again from scratch with the new domain and all the SEO from the old domain has been lost? Have we done it wrong?0 -
Migrating domains from a domain that will have new content.
We have a new url. The old url is being taken over by someone else. Is it possible to still have a successful redirect/migration strategy if we are redirect from our old domain, which is now being used by someone else. I see a big mess, but I'm being told we can redirect all the links to our old content (which is now used by someone else) to our new url. Thoughts? craziness? insanity? Or I'm just not getting it:)

Domain Forwarding / Multiple Domain Names / or Rebuild Blogs on them
I am considering forwarding 3 very aged and valuable domain names to my main site. There were once over 100 blog posts on each blog and each one has a page authority of 45 and domain authority of 37. My question is should i put up three blogs on the domains and link them to my site or should i just forward the domains to my main site? Which will provide me with more value. I have the capability to have some one blog on them every day. However, i do not have access to any of the old blog posts. I guess i could scrape it of archive.org. Any advice would be appreciated. Different domains for multilingual website
Hey guys, A site that I'm currently working on as different domains for each website language. So for example: word1word2.com for the english version word3word4.com for the french version word5word6.com for spanish version .... Is it better to move all of the different languages to the same domain and use subfolders for each language /fr/... Please note that the domains being used bring in organic traffic as well as they are EMDs. Thank You.

301 for old domain to new domain - Joomla plugin or cpanel?
A client changed domains and both are being indexed. There are thousands of content pages. I can install a 301 redirect Joomla plugin and configure it so that each page redirects to the new domain. I have a feeling I will need to manual set every page. OR I can create a domain level redirect setting in cpanel using wildcards. I think this will automatically pass every old URL to the new URL. Which is the better approach? The cpanel option sounds like less work.

Sitemap with References to Second Domain
I have just discovered a client site that is serving content from a single database into two separate domains and has created xml sitemaps which contain references to both domains in an attempt to avoid being tagged for duplicate content. I always thought that a sitemap was intended to show the files inside a single domain and the idea of multiple domains in the sitemap had never occurred to me... The sites are both very large storefronts and one of them (the larger of the two) has recently seen a 50% drop in search traffic and loss of some 600 search terms from top 50 positions in Google. My first instinct is that the sitemaps should be altered to only show files within each domain, but am worried about causing further loss of traffic. Is it possible that the inclusion URLs for the second domain in the sitemap may in fact be signalling duplicate content to Search Engines? Does anyone have a definitive view of whether these sitemaps are good, bad or irrelevant?
