Outranking the big boys, how to protect position?
-
Hi
We're an affiliate travel site, and not only are we outranking the site who provides the rates, we're also outranking some of the very big travel companies that provide rates to them.
Of course, that's great. But it's also worrying, following the advice of SEOMOZ to the letter we've managed to acheive great ranking for product names and even cities/place, we've got 100% unique content (the affiliate site offer XML but we haven't taken it) with our own pictures, reviews and videos, but is this going to be enough?
I'm concerned that, outrank these bigger companies on enough keywords and they will either a) complain to google or b) stop providing us with rates.
What steps should I take in this situation? I feel it is our "competitors" job to up their game, rather than for us to try to sail under the radar, but unfortunately and I've been involved in SEO where this has happened before, if you start to rank well, they'd rather pull the plug on you than up their game.
Is there any advice out there on this type of thing, how I can at least stay in Google's good books if a competitor does decide we don't "deserve" our ranking?
-
Hi Sean
No, absolutely no black hat whatsoever, but as an affiliate perhaps Google wouldn't want us to outrank the original supplier of the rates?
And in answer to your second comment, we don't use the information from a competitor at all, what we do, is use the rates provided from the publisher (so for example, we don't use content from Delta airlines but we have their rates for flights).
However, you are right in that a publisher can pull the plug on affiliate for just marketing better than them. Annoying though, we put a lot of time and effort into our rankings to sell their products... for them to pull the plug for doing it too well.
-
Well the question I am curious to get an answer to is why would google not think you deserve the rank? Are you doing black hat techniques?
Outside of that, the big boys can just yank the plug of information from you to hurt your business but that is the fine line you play near when your business involves using information from a competitor.

Help regarding Backlinks DA
Hey I'm doing web optimization of my site Best Blender under $100 My inquiry is with respect to Backlinks. There are 2 things which can be seen in MOZ announcing 1. DA(Domain Authority) 2.Spam Score Presently how might I choose from which site would it be advisable for me to get Backlinks? From higher DA and Low Spam Score or Higher DA and High Spam Score? Does Spam Score will affect my Rankings or not? Also, my last inquiry is what number of Backlinks would it be advisable for me to make on everyday schedule? Respects,

Confused About Potential Spammy Inbound Link
I unsure how my page got backlinked on this "passive DNS" website: http://pdns.daloo.de/search.php?alike=0&q=66.96.162.137 This looks to be my only inbound link, so I am worried this is negatively affecting my site ranking. Is this 56% spam score link negatively affecting my website? If so, any suggestions? Any feedback or insight would be greatly appreciated as I am very ignorant to what this person's webpage is about and why my page was linked.. Sincerely, Hayden My website: https://cashflo.org/

Duplicate content - big brand players
Hi I understand the concept of duplicate content and its impact, however I do have a couple of doubts that I would like to hear expert comments. Product description/content listed in Amazon.com (for instance Canon EOS 600) same content/description can be seen in Amazon.co.uk - how does google see this ? same product listed in amazon is found it target , walmart , Bestbuy and other big player with same description - Who gets the penalty ? Ipad Air launched yesterday, a detailed description can be found on apple site, and the same description / features / word by word will be found in all legit major online sites - How does google see this ? My Business example. Let say I own Samsung camera / other Samsung products. Obviously I do not sell them on my brand site and provide only information on Samsung.com. Products are sold all over the world on retailer websites like bestbuy, target, walmart, amazon.com, amazon.co.uk etc etc. I only have 1 detailed description per product to provide to all these retailers which they use the same information on their website.(I dont mind them doing so, however is this duplicate content ? ) If the answer is all retailers have to alter my original description, this may not be feasible, coz I have 1000+ products and 100+ retails. Remember I am Samsung. How does google see this, What is my Online strategy, Appreciate your comments.

SERP position confusion
Hi, I am trying to rank on page one on Google UK for the term 'wireless alarms'. the page i have optimised for this terms is www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment and i have just completely revamped the text, tags and titles on this in the last 48 hours. It is not showing up in the top 50 yet, but this page http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-information/gsm-gprs-alarm-systems is showing up in position 47 for some reason. I know i will not get to the top 5 or 6, as these are held by Amazon, Screwfix, Ebay etc., however, i have found something i don't understand. There is one result in position 4 called www.wireless-alarms.net. But his DA is 9 and PA is 24 and links to his site is 3. Our stats are DA 47 and PA 39 and we have 15,000 links. Question. How is his SERP position so high? Also, although i have submited my page (www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment) to Google Index, it is not showing the correct page yet. I guess this indexing can take a few days? Any suggestions how i can achieve a better position with the correct page being displayed? I am new to this and on a fast learning curve and want to learn as much as possible. Sorry to keep asking so many questions, but you guys are excellent. Thank you Si

How to Find A SEO Guru?
How to find a SEO Guru I am a looking for a SEO to take over our SEO needs for our website.I am not interested in learning SEO and would rather leave it to the pro's.We already have great traffic 800K+ monthly but we need to take it to the next level and beyond. I have searched through SEOMOZ and read articles everywhere and done all that, I think I am more confused now than when I started on how to find a great SEO. While their are plenty of great SEO guys out their a lot of them I don't feel comfortable putting our business in their hands.Their are some smaller SEO's and some shady SEO's that won't work for us.Then some just don't have the credentials or background for us to hand over our hard earned money and have the future of our businesses in their hands. We want someone who has worked on big projects and had great success and is a industry leader but is willing to work with me and be hands on just not send me reports and suggestions. I am Trying to find SEO guru who knows his stuff and knows it well.I know i will pay good money for this but would like to find some up and comers so I don't have to sell unborn children to afford their services. What would be a good way to a great seo maybe even a guru? Finding the right SEO has become a daunting task.

Do "big" SEO companies remove links after termination of service?
Or worded differently: Has anyone heard of "big" SEO companies removing links after termination of service? I have a client who isn't particularly happy with the SEO he's getting from a big Aussie SEO firm, and he wants to terminate, however they've built thousands of links for him and he's a little concerned they might all get pulled. Has anyone heard of this happening, or; Do you think this is a legitimate concern? I think its physically possible to remove backlinks like this because it seems the SEO firm in question is building links by using other client's websites. I also wonder if they might have large content farm style sites where they place links for clients which might be quite easy to take down. Please discuss!
