What are the best methods of White Hat SEO? How can you create good quality White Hat links? For example, how do you convince someone to link to your site?
-
Hi Harry,
Not really a quick and simple answer, but there are numerous methods available for high value and white-hat links. For me, content is the best way to go - producing an infographic is an excellent method for gaining links, or writing an in-depth article as a guest blog on a high profile, relevant website with a link back to you. In terms of convincing someone to link to your site, let the content you produce do the talking - if they like it, they'll have no problem linking to you.
Here's an excellent article from Jon Cooper with an awesome list of link-building techniques:

And here's an article I wrote on the SEOMoz blog that covers producing high quality content:

Hope that helps you Harry! A lot of reading there but well worth it hopefully : )

GWT 404 best practices
I'm getting back lots of 404 errors for old websites that are linking back to my current website. If the website content/anchor text has no relevancy to my current content is it still best practice to redirect to current home page, contact the web master to remove link or any other suggestions? Not exactly sure if redirecting looks spammy since it's irrelevant content. Thanks for your help!

SEO Company claiming our results?
This company http://www.synapseinteractive.com/portfolio/kempnrugelawgroup.php is linking to us, with a bs graphic about how they improved our rankings for some keywords. I have no idea who this company is. Does this happen often? Also, I'm tempted to contact them to take it down, but I really don't need some questionable company getting annoyed and then linking 10,000 spam sites to me. Any thoughts on what to do? I'm tempted to just do nothing, but for I ignore it, I want to make sure there's insidious about this link that would cause me any problems down the road. No, I haven't got any GWT or BWT messages about it. Thanks, Ruben

Two plus two equals four! Grey hat alive and well
Rand is unquestionably much smarter than I however his pronouncements concerning the link building don't seem to hold true for some sectors of the online marketplace. We sell upholstery leather and one of our main competitor runs the table with the most important search terms and has a total garbage backlink profile. I don't know if there is some onsite magic they are working but they don't use brand name anchor text, links are not relevant to their products and most of their links are from high DA blogs, craps posts to .edu forums and no follow. The point is, maybe black hat is out but a lot of what I see being rewarded out there suggests grey hat is alive and well.

How tdo you replace an old SEO company's work?
I have a client that has been paying someone for what is basically directory placement on very specific niche sites that they have created. These sites are exact match keyword domains with not very high PA or DA (they're in the teens) and they provide no direct traffic. It's basically a link wheel that is probably helping them to rank for some of their bigger holy grail keywords. They are also providing some low quality article/blog marketing on these sites. Ultimately, they link to them ALOT and it's working in this specific niche. This client no longer wants to pay for these services, but there's the possibility of all of the links being taken down and their rankings being set back a ton. Has anybody ever experienced this and if so, how did you deal with it? What are some good tactics? Any tips would be great.

Is this SEO correct?
Please view website http://www.staddonsbeds.co.uk. In the footer is the keywords the client is aiming for. These pages have been created separately to the sitemap. Is this tactic and pages white hat seo or is this considered black hat seo such as gateway pages? Could you please confirm Thanks Paul
