On-Page Report Says 'F', and I'm Confoozled As to Why
-
I'm primarily interested in how we failed in our "Broad Keyword Usage in Title" category.
The Keyword Pair we're gunnin' for is:
"Mac Windows"
Our current page title is:
"CrossOver: Windows on Mac and Linux with the easiest and most affordable emulator - CodeWeavers"
This is, I grant, ugly. However, bear with me.
SEOMoz Report Card says "Easy Fix!" and suggests:
"Employ the keyword in the page title, preferrably as the first words in the element."
I humbly submit that "Mac" and "Windows" IS in the page title. So what am I missing? Is it the placement of the words relative to each other, or relative to the start of the sentence? Or is the phrase "CrossOver:" somehow blocking the rest of the sentence from being read? Are colons evil? I'm genuinely mystified as to why (from a structural standpoint) our existing title tag is failing this test, and I'd be delighted for answers and/or feedback. Thanks in advance.

no not really damned if you do, damned if you don't... this problem effects us all, we all want to rank for our primary keywords.
if you can't target both, chose your primary target for your homepage and target and internal landing pages for others keywords, ok the page won't be as authoritative, but i have seen on many occasions sub pages out ranking home pages for specific keywords
don't give up bud, just work harder and smarter for those other keywords... and don't forget the long tail

Yeah, and of course, we actually want both those keyword pairs, so I'm kinda damned if I do, and damned if I don't. But thanks for the great feedback; much appreciated.

ditto on Justin
-
Justin is correct. Your title tag is (in affect) targeting 'Windows on Mac" - whereas you are trying to get the on-page report for the term 'Mac Windows'. They are two separate terms according to Google + SEOmoz.
-
I am fairly sure that if you have the keyword set up in your campaign as "Mac Windows" that the SEOMoz web app looks for an exact match on those two words.
You currently have "...Windows on Mac...", if you change your title to contain the exact phrase "..Mac Windows.." that should fix that error with the report card.
In my experience Google doesn't necessarily require the keywords to be an exact match for SERPs, although in a lot of cases it helps, especially with competitive keywords like yours.
Not wanting to teach you to suck eggs, but although on-page keyword optimisation is a fundamental part of SEO it is rarely enough on its own to get you ranked top of google for competitive keywords.
Hope that helps

I'm struggling to understand (and fix) why I'm getting a 404 error. The URL includes this "%5Bnull%20id=43484%5D" but I cannot find that anywhere in the referring URL. Does anyone know why please? Thanks
Can you help with how to fix this 404 error please? It appears that I have a redirect from one page to the other, although the referring page URL works, but it appears to be linking to another URL with this code at the end of the the URL - %5Bnull%20id=43484%5D that I'm struggling to find and fix. Thanks

Bigcommerce only allows us to have https for our store only, not the other pages on our site, so we have a mix of https and http, how is this hurting us and what's the best way to fix?
So we aren't interested in paying a thousand dollars a month just to have https when we feel it's the only selling point of that package, so we have https for our store and the rest of the site blogs and all are http. I'm wondering if this would count as duplicate content or give us some other unforeseen penalty due to the half way approach of https being implemented. If this is hurting us, what would you recommend as a solution?

Will you get more 'google juice' if your social links are in your websites header, rather than its footer?
Hi team, I'm in the process of making some aesthetic changes to my website. Its getting quite cluttered so the main purpose is to clean up its look. I currently have 3x social links in the header, right at the top, and i would really like to move these to the footer to remove some clutter in the header. My concern is that moving them may have an impact on the domains ranking in google. Website: www.mountainjade.co.nz We've made some huge gains against our competitors over the past 6 months and I don't want to jeopardise that. Any help would be much appreciated as i'm self taught in SEO and have learnt through making mistakes. This time however, with Moz, i'd rather get some advice before I make any decisions! Thanks is advance, Jake S

How can I change the page title "two" (artigos/page/2.html) in each category ?
I have some categories and photo galleries that have more than one page (i.e.: http://www.buffetdomicilio.com/category/artigos and http://www.buffetdomicilio.com/category/artigos/page/2). I think that I must change the tittle and description, but I don't how. I would like to know how can I change the title of each of them without stay with duplicate title and description. Thank you! ahcAORR.jpg

Has Google stopped rendering author snippets on SERP pages if the author's G+ page is not actively updated?
Working with a site that has multiple authors and author microformat enabled. The image is rendering for some authors on SERP page and not for others. Difference seems to be having an updated G+ page and not having a constantly updating G+ page. any thoughts?
