Should i continue linking the old page after a redirect 301?
-
hi everybody,
i'm trying to understand why my page http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it isn't ranked for the keyword poltrona frau brescia even if is indexed on google.
the page gets authority and traffic from the page www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html that is already ranked in fourth position for that keyword.
should i continue linking the previous or the new page to increase the page authority?
i don't know if is a good way to link a page not ranked despite a ranked one..
Please help me.... thanks a lot

yeah, i agree with you but my question is different ( probably because my english is no good enough ), the page on the previous domain with thin content was ranked fourth, the same on the new third domain in no ranked, not even in 150 position... that's my problem....
hoping that i've explained the problem better i would thank you

I think that the appearance of thin content / over optimization may be affecting your ranking for the term.
If you make some small changes on the things I mentioned you may find that the rankings improve.

thanks sha....
i will certainly follow your valuable advice.... however i don't understand why http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it , that is the same page already indexed, isn't shown for the query poltrona frau brescia...
Do you think that it was wrong to put the page on this new third level domain considering that my only aim is to rank first for that keyword?

the pages are the same, i just want to transfer www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html on a new third level domain http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it... The problem is that the first one is still ranked ( with a 301 redirect on-it ) but the new one it isn't indexed for that keyword... do you know why?

Hi Guido,
I would agree with comments from eyepaq and Saijo with regard to redirects. Since there is a slight loss of link value with a 301 redirect, it is best to always send links to the target URL.
As to why the page is not ranking, I just wanted to add a reminder that there is more to that than just pointing links to the page. From that point of view there are a few things to consider with this page:
- There is very little content on the page, but when I view source I see a significant number of exact match instances of your keyword term.
- Most notably, there are several alt tags which offer no descriptive value for the user and are simply repetitive use of the exact match term for each photo. This is likely to be seen as manipulative. There is nothing wrong with including your term in alt tags, but they should always serve as short explanation of the image content.
We need to be even more careful of search engine sensitivity to signs of over optimization when there is very little text on a page.
Hope that helps,
Sha

I am answering this assuming you own zenucchi.it
http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it and www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html are on the same domain why try to target 2 different pages for the same keyword ?
UPDATE : ( missed the 301 redirect part in the title ..doh )
Once you do a redirect , its best you build link to the new page.
-
If you just 301 redirected www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html it will take some time for the rankings to settle.
You should focus on getting quality links to the new page.
You can link to the old page as link equity (juice) is pass via 301 but some is lost so it dosen't make sense if you can use the new page as target page for your links.
However, all past links that pointed to www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html will pass most of the value to the new page - again give google some time to settle and figure everything out.
Hope it helps.

301 Redirects - 4 sites into 1
Hey all, I have an SEO conundrum that seems to have no right or wrong answer. If you have 2 minutes I’d love to hear your opinion. The Situation

Our client has 4 ecommerce sites (Sites A, B, C & D) all selling the same products.
He wishes to to merge all 4 sites into a single site (Site A) Options
In order to maintain maximum SEO authority do we: A - Choose a single site (B, C, or D) with the most SEO authority/juice/power and 301 re-direct it into Site A
Or
B – 301 re-direct all 3 sites (B, C & D) into Site A Our experience says that 301’ing from a single site works well, but from multiple sites feels spammy and risky. Really keen too hear your thoughts.1 -
Found a cache of old domain names, should I link or 301 redirect
We have found a cache of about 10 URLs, some are ranking above our main URL in Google SERPS. What is the best course of action here? a. Redirect all to the homepage?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | moconn
b. Link all domains to the homepage?
c. Link all domains to select pages on on main site, being careful not to anchor text spam
d. 301 redirect all to the main site. Is there any disadvantage to your recommendation? Is there likely to be a penalty incurred? I feel like we'll get the strongest increase in rankings by following option c but it feels like option d may be safer. Thanks in advance for your help!0 -
To Many Links On Page Problem
Hello My Moz report is showing I have an error for too many links on my sitemap and blog. The links on both pages are relevant and I'm not sure if this has to be sorted out, as I would have thought Google would expect sitemaps and blogs to have lots of links. If I were to reduce the number of links how much of a positive affect would it have on my site? If any of you feel it is best practice to reduce number of links on these particular pages, do you have any suggestions on how I can tackle this? http://www.dradept.com/blog.php http://www.dradept.com/sitemap.php Thank you Christina

Outbound link to PDF vs outbound link to page
If you're trying to create a site which is an information hub, obviously linking out to authoritative sites is a good idea. However, does linking to a PDF have the same effect? e.g Linking to Google's SEO starter guide PDF, as opposed to linking to a google article on SEO. Thanks!

301 redirect Actinic HTML pages to ASP. Achievable?
Hi - I'm hoping someone can help me resolve an issue in relation to setting up 301 redirects. The client to whom I provide SEO services is being told by his developers that setting up 301 redirects is not achievable from old HTML pages to his new site running on a Windows server. My feeling is that it should be fine, and I have found documentation online that seems to support this, however I'm no developer, certainly no server admin, so I was wondering if anyone could advise me? Is it feasible to set up 301 redirects from Actinic sites (HTML pages) to a new site in NOP commerce running on a Windows server (ASP pages). Thank you for your help! Iain

How long for a 301 redirect to pass PR?
Hi, How long does it take for a 301 redirect to pass PR/Juice to the new domain it's redirecting to? From what I understand you tell Google in Webmaster tools this domain is now going to this domain and then setup a file on the old domains hosting to redirect to the new. And that's it! If that is correct how long does it take? 2 days, 2 weeks, months, maybe never??? Cheers

Duplicate internal links on page, any benefit to nofollow
Link spam is naturally a hot topic amongst SEO's, particularly post Penguin. While digging around forums etc, I watched a video blog from Matt Cutts posted a while ago that suggests that Google only pays attention to the first instance of a link on the page As most websites will have multiple instances of a links (header, footer and body text), is it beneficial to nofollow the additional instances of the link? Also as the first instance of a link will in most cases be within the header nav, does that then make the content link text critical or can good on page optimisation be pulled from the title attribute? I would appreciate the experiences and thoughts Mozzers thoughts on this thanks in advance!
