Do follow or no follow on wordpress site?
-
I have read many different opinions on what links to make do follow on a wordpress website versus which ones to leave as no follow. (internal and external) There does not seem to be any consensus among the inputs to date. Any perspectives on this would be appreciated. thanks

great thanks. this was my sense and as it is on my old site but given the significant change it is always worth having additional insight and experience

As long as you trust the site, and think you're linking to a valuable page on the web, there's nothing wrong with leaving them as 'follow'.
-
The blog is self hosted. On my old site I left the links as do follow but when linking to sites such as facebook etc is there any value in leaving them as do follow?
-
Hi Brett -
Are you talking about a self-hosted Wordpress blog or a site hosted at Wordpress.com? Generally, I leave the entire site as regular 'follow' HTML links, except for the comments section.
Generally speaking, good content and community should encourage a robust discussion. If people are just coming along commenting on a blog because they hope to get a link back to their site out of it, their comments often can feel more forced, and generally are going to add less value.
Also, there are software applications employed by the blackhat community that can send massive amounts of spam comments in a very short period of time. Opening up comments as do follow makes you more targeted by such software programs.
Of course, there are software tools designed to fight comment spam, such as Akismet, which can make things much easier.
On my own blog, I've gone to using Facebook for comments. It saves users the trouble of having to login or create an account on my own site, and plus it does a pretty good job of dealing with the whole spam comments problem.

Why does old "Free" site ranks better than new "Optimized" site?
My client has a "free" site he set-up years ago - www.montclairbariatricsurgery.com (We'll call this the old site) that consistently outranks his current "optimized" (new) website - http://www.njbariatricsurgery.com/ The client doesn't want to get rid of his old site, which is now a competitor, because it ranks so much better. But he's invested so much in the new site with no results. A bit of background: We recently discovered the content on the new site was a direct copy of content on the old site. We had all copy on new site rewritten. This was back in April. The domain of the new site was changed on July 8th from www.Bariatrx.com to what you see now - www.njbariatricsurgery.com. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

Is this site worth subscribing to?
Hi everyone is, the below site worthwhile submitting to? I see one of our competitors is on here and the article they have published has in turn be picked up by other sites. Is the financial cost worth the back link reward? https://app.prweb.com/Main.aspx?Entity=Home

Best way to duplicate a wordpress site for staging purposes?
I want to make some changes to my Wordpress site, and want to somehow set up a live staging area. Does anyone know of a good way to do this? I want all of the same content there I just want to be able to make changes to it and try it all out before going live. Any thoughts on this? Also I want to be sure the staging site doesn't get indexed since it will be a complete duplicate of my existing site. Thanks!

Things to remember when relaunching a site
We're about to re-launch our site but to think of everything before going live in a week is pretty tough going. Any suggestions or reminders as to what to remember and take care of before going live? What have you found or forgotten in your experience with re-launches? Thanks, Dave

Duplicate description problem in Wordpress.
Webmaster tools is flagging up duplicate descriptions for the page http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts. The page is one page in the wordpress page editor and the web designer set it up so that I can add new live acts from a seperate page editor on the left menu and that feeds into the page 'live-acts'. (it says under template 'live-acts-feed'. The problem is as I add more acts it creates new url's eg http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts/page/2 and http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts/page/3 etc... I use the all in one SEO pack and webmaster tools tells me that page 2/3/4/ etc all have the same description. How can I overcome this? I can't write new descriptions for each page as the all in one SEO pack will only allow me to enter one for the page 'live-acts'.

Wordpress or Joomla? Discussion
Hi All I'm about to start on a new project where I've been having lots of discussions with the developers involved on the merits of both wordpress and joomla. I'm experienced with wordpress but haven't really done too much with Joomla. I've found some general info on Joomla online, most issues seems to be around duplicate content, but can't seem to find too much else. Therefore I thought I'd throw it out there for discussion as I'd love to hear from those of you who have used both CMS's and the drawbacks/ pitfalls or plus points in both. The project is based around a non transactional site, offering a service, but no product. There's lots of thought leadership type content planned, either through interviews, surveys, articles, video etc, and some linkbait etc. Lot of content will also be newsworthy so keep Google news etc in the back of your mind too. Lots of social integration too... Looking forward to hearing what you might have to say Mozzers.
