Subdomain Metrics
-
Hi All,
I have been looking in the forums but could not quite find an appropriate answer to my question.
I have a site that has no subdomains, in my htaccess non www redirects to www.
So I would think that the subdomain metrics in seomoz would be the exact same for root and subdomain.
However, it appears that I get almost all the Ticks for my site over my competition on the root domain, but do poorly in the sub domain area compared to competition. Also, it shows that I only have 2 links for everything in the sub domain section.
Any I reading something wrong, or is this correct?
Thanks in advance

You guys are great!
Robert - Thanks for the good guesses, it put me on the right track.
Nick - Every time I email Seomoz for any questions, I get an excellent concise response from the team, and its mostly been you answering all my questions. So thank you for that.
The answer you gave makes a lot of sense now. I was just worried my client would think they are doing so great for their root domain, but very poorly for their subdomain against their competition. Now at least I can explain to them what is going on.
Will check out OSE.
Cheers

Haha, I need to look at his campaigns, but that is what it looks like on the surface. All of us on the helpteam have been pushing for the fix really hard to!

Come on Nick,
I made some good guesses there and you go and tell us this. I am so hurt, I am not going to wash my SEOmoz T-shirt this week. No, no, I am not.
Certainly gonna quit guessing at ----.
Thx for the update,

Hey Chirah,
Sorry about the odd metrics. If the campaign is set up as a root domain, then the subdomain metrics won't be accurate, we are working on a fix for that now. If you want to see the correct metrics put your URL in OSE and check the Compare Link Metrics Tab.
Sorry about the inconvenience.
Best,
Nick -
Chirah,
It is not unusual even with the www taken care of correctly for mozrank or trust to be a little to somewhat different.
Without your urls, I would guess that whatever is going on in your competitive analysis has to do with your competitor not having resolved the www. That I see with our clients regularly.
You did not say how many links you had in the root, but that you had only two in the sub. This issue could be a timing issue depending on when you did the redirect.
We have a client I just looked at who we took on in Sept and his root vs sub are equal with the exception of the mozRank and mozTrust. Since those are equations as opposed to counts it would make sense that they would take longer to resolve. But, they will never be the same is my guess....look at SEOmoz.org.....
Hope it was helpful.

Is my client's site penalized and if not, why are other lesser quality sites ranking with lower metrics than my client's?
Hello, I'm trying to explain to a client, as to why certain websites that appear in the top 50 listings for a keyword are there when they don't have very good backlink profiles, and for this keyword, seems you need a high PA above 20 or DA above 25, just to page for page 2 - 3. Running a full SERPs report, I have seen that backlinks to the page that's ranking seems to be as high of a factor as PA, followed by DA and overall backlink profile. Having a high score in one of these 4 areas seems to increase your ranking. However, going into page 3 and beyond, seems that things kinda take a weird turn. After comparing the client's site to those ranking on page 2 I could see that all of them had better PA and more links to the page ranking for that keyword, so page 2 I understand why we don't rank on yet. However, looking at page 3, I see that the client's site in question has better PA, DA, links to page and overall links to domain. Which leaves me to think we have a penalty that's keeping us ranking 50 or beyond. Since our metrics across the boards for what MOZ is showing as ranking factors. The more odd issue is that looking at the line graph, shows right at the time we implemented sitewide https our ranking for this one keyword dropped, while rankings for our other keywords increased. Am I to assume it's a keyword density penalty? What penalties are there with a outcome of ranking limits?

What One SEO Metric Would You Choose?
If you had to choose one SEO metric to measure a site's SEO performance what would it be? I know you shouldn't use one metric, but lets say you had 10 seconds to assess how well a site was probably doing from an SEO perspective. What metric would it be? *I also asked this question on the inbound forms.

Competitive metrics
Hello everyone. Looking at the competitive metrics section and I realize, I know nothing about this. Is there a tutorial to explain these? I noticed that my Domain Authority has dropped in the past week. Curious of why and exactly what this means?

Looking for traffic estimator for specific pages or subdomains on a site I do not control
I'm looking for a free traffic estimator that allows me to look at monthly visits for specific pages or subdomains on a site I do not control. So far I've found trafficestimate.com, but that only lets me look at domains. I'd like to see estimates for subdomains or specific pages. Does this even exist?

Root Domain Metrics Stagnant for 3 weeks now
We are doing a Competitive Domain Analysis for a client and 2 of their competitors. The results from the Root Domain Metrics have been ok from the past months where in the results we are getting changes every time the website is re-crawled by SEOMOZ to update its analysis. However, in the past few weeks, the results we are getting for the Root Domain Metrics have remained the same even after three weeks. We have attempted a separate Open Site Explorer analysis for the client and their competitors but be are getting the same results. From the "Domain Authority" to the "No Followed Linking Root Domains", the results have remained the same for three weeks. Could anything be affecting the results or is it just the fact that the links have not changed (not a single one, for three websites) in the past three weeks. Hope you can help me clarify my issue. Thanks!
