Why will google not index my pages?
-
About 6 weeks ago we moved a subcategory out to becomne a main category using all the same content. We also removed 100's of old products and replaced these with new variation listings to remove duplicate content issues.
The problem is google will not index 12 critcal pages and our ranking have slumped for the keywords in the categories.
What can i do to entice google to index these pages?
-
In google webmaster tools the sitemaps report 14 urls in our category listings not indexed. However, I have had trouble identifying which urls it is
-
It looks like that page and the category pages have been indexed:-
site:towelsrus.co.uk/Towels/Hand-Towels/prodlist_ct472.htm
site:towelsrus.co.uk/Towels/Face-Cloths-And-Flannels/prodlist_ct471.htm
site:towelsrus.co.uk/Towels/catlist_fnct561.htmThe cache view of the above pages is the same as the current versions of the pages on your site.
Are you confusing pages not being indexed with pages not ranking?
-
Ok, I think the fatal mistake made is that these category pages are identical to those which it replaced and those origional pages I guess have not been removed from Googles Index.
How do I get out of this hole and get these critcal pages indexed? Would fetching as google bot do anything realistically?
-
You cant entice them.....you can make sure they get indexed properly.
Make sure they are being crawled and their are no errors on the page. (no duplicate title tags, etc.) You can do this with the campaign tool in SEOMOZ.
Make sure you build your site with a logical link structure as each page should be reachable from at least one static text link.
Make sure that your sitemap has them listed correctly.
Make sure they are original content and not duplicated somewhere else on the internet or on another of your sites.
This should get you in good shape. Hope this helps.

Fraser, one thing you can try (if you haven't already) is to use the "Fetch as Google" feature in webmaster tools.
Once you've entered the url of your page, and Google retrieves the data, you have the option to then submit that url to the index.
I've done this a couple of times and it seems to work - of course, Google might have been ready to index the pages anyway, but who knows!
-
Yes, there is 12 pages within this category. All category pages

Hi Fraser,
Do you have a link to one of the pages?

Only 4 of my pages have been indexed out of 64 in total
Hi there, I submitted a sitemap for a new 64 page website 6 weeks ago and only a few pages have been indexed. The website shows in Google search but with a large amount of information on the website it should show higher. I have fetched and rendered 30 plus pages on the 9th September and others on the 16th September, today is the 5th October but in Webmaster tools, Google only acknowledge 1 page as indexed. I have checked the robots txt file which shows it is allowed. There are no messages for problems with crawl and no errors showing. The domain is www.urbaneforms.com . Can you offer a suggestion as to why we are not being indexed?

Why isn't my site being indexed by Google?
Our domain was originally pointing to a Squarespace site that went live in March. In June, the site was rebuilt in WordPress and is currently hosted with WPEngine. Oddly, the site is being indexed by Bing and Yahoo, but is not indexed at all in Google i.e. site:example.com yields nothing. As far as I know, the site has never been indexed by Google, neither before nor after the switch. What gives? A few things to note: I am not "discouraging search engines" in WordPress Robots.txt is fine - I'm not blocking anything that shouldn't be blocked A sitemap has been submitted via Google Webmaster Tools and I have "fetched as Google" and submitted for indexing - No errors I've entered both the www and non-www in WMT and chose a preferred There are several incoming links to the site, some from popular domains The content on the site is pretty standard and crawlable, including several blog posts I have linked up the account to a Google+ page

How can a Page indexed without crawled?
Hey moz fans,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | atakala
In the google getting started guide it says **"
Note: **Pages may be indexed despite never having been crawled: the two processes are independent of each other. If enough information is available about a page, and the page is deemed relevant to users, search engine algorithms may decide to include it in the search results despite never having had access to the content directly. That said, there are simple mechanisms such as robots meta tags to make sure that pages are not indexed.
" How can it happen, I dont really get the point.

Google cached pages and search terms
Here's something I noticed. We have a rank A page and it's ranking 10 on Google search results. When I hover my mouse over our search result, Google gives us a preview, but Google also highlights in red where the search keyword is present on the page. Reviewing our page, even though we have it as the h1 header and intro paragraph, Google is highlighting it half way down the page. Any ideas why? I review rank 1 - 5 and Google highlights the keyword on the intro paragraph and h1 header Have you guys experienced anything like this? It makes me think..Google could be crawling my site and thinking I haven't got it in the h1 or intro paragraph etc.. Thoughts?

How Long Does it Take for Rel Canonical to De-Index / Re-Index a Page?
Hi Mozzers, We have 2 e-commerce websites, Website A and Website B, sharing thousands of pages with duplicate product descriptions. Currently only the product pages on Website B are indexing, and we want Website A indexed instead. We added the rel canonical tag on each of Website B's product pages with a link towards the matching product on Page A. How long until Website B gets de-indexed and Website A gets indexed instead? Did we add the rel canonical tag correctly? Thanks!

Google swapped our website's long standing ranking home page for a less authoritative product page?
Our website has ranked for two variations of a keyword, one singular & the other plural in Google at #1 & #2 (for over a year). Keep in mind both links in serps were pointed to our home page. This year we targeted both variations of the keyword in PPC to a products landing page(still relevant to the keywords) within our website. After about 6 weeks, Google swapped out the long standing ranked home page links (p.a. 55) rank #1,2 with the ppc directed product page links (p.a. 01) and dropped us to #2 & #8 respectively in search results for the singular and plural version of the keyword. Would you consider this swapping of pages temporary, if the volume of traffic slowed on our product page?

Google indexing flash content
Hi Would googles indexing of flash content count towards page content? for example I have over 7000 flash files, with 1 unique flash file per page followed by a short 2 paragraph snippet, would google count the flash as content towards the overall page? Because at the moment I've x-tagged the roberts with noindex, nofollow and no archive to prevent them from appearing in the search engines. I'm just wondering if the google bot visits and accesses the flash file it'll get the x-tag noindex, nofollow and then stop processing. I think this may be why the panda update also had an effect. thanks
