ShopTab Facebook App - Duplicate Content Issue?
-
Hello
I've been trialling an app for Facebook called Shoptab where you can add a shopfront to your Facebook page and then users can browse through the items and when they click buy or more info they are linked through to the main site.
The app displays the product, title, description etc so I was wondering if we would run the risk of duplicate content issues by loading our inventory to this app? OR would Google see the hyperlink through to the original item and no damage done?
It would be very easy to add our whole inventory to this app.
Thanks

The links all point back to your site right? This seems like it wouldn't be an issue with duplicate content since your pages are already established as the original owner of the content.
I don't know too much about ShopTab (maybe Kurt can explain more) but if it's pulling it in from an iFrame it may not be an issue at all.
Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about this being duplicate content. If you are worried though, you could start by adding just one subset of products first, see how that goes, then add the rest. If you have an example page to look at it I'm happy to check it out for you as well.
Thanks!
Jen

Syndicating a product feed to a Facebook app is no different than syndicating a product feed to Google Product or Shopzilla or Shopping.com. The Shoptab app points to the native site content similar to any other product feed on the web. Assuming worst case scenario that somehow you did trip a duplicate content algorithm, duplicate content is really a filter, not a penalty (except under circumstances where you are blatantly trying to spam the index), and Google is most likely to show your original site content under almost any circumstances like this.

Facebook Business Page Optimization: Awards Section
Hi everyone! I am looking to add my clients awards to the Facebook business page to add a little "pow" and give myself a "look what I did" talking point at my next meeting with them. I was comparing their page to the competition, and I noticed the competition has a lovely Awards section under their About. Do you know how/where this is hiding? My clients business page is rather new (a little over a year old), so I'm leaning towards this was an old feature that Facebook has not hidden from older pages. Anyone have any idea on where this is hiding? fXVWEwM

We got 10,000 facebook likes overnight from people in another country. WHY? How do I get rid of them?
Our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/MobileAttic received more than 10,000 likes over night. We only had about 250 likes prior to this. I know this hurts our engagement numbers as well as limits real customers / community from seeing our posts. Is there any way to get our fans down to a real "non-spammed" number?

Duplicate Content issue: Amazon book review & company blog
Can my site be penalized for including a book review verbatim in my blog that I also post on Amazon? What are the steps I need to take? I have written a book review that I want to post on Amazon. I am also planning to create a blog post and include the exact text of the review within the post which I will then also promote on my social channels. What do I need to watch out for in terms of duplicate content? Is there a sequence I should follow? We have the rel=canonical tag on our site which is WordPress.

What is the value of getting a Facebook like?
Is requesting people to like your facebook page of any real value for a small business? Is it better to encourage people to write a comment/testimonial about your product or service on their own status with a link to your website and/or Facebook page? I have a lot of clients getting more and more into the concept of social marketing so I am now wondering how best to guide them in the right direction with regards to Facebook specifically

How do website owners gain from facebook scams like this?
I've noticed two things that are going wild on Facebook this week: http://timhortonsgiveaway.me/ and http://promoforipads.net/ In the first scenario, you supposedly just click share and they'll send you a $25 Tim Horton's gift card. (For those who don't know Tim's it is a very popular coffee shop in Canada). There's no way this is happening...they claim to have something like 5000 cards to give away. In the second one they're apparently giving away 1000 ipods. Yeah...OK. So, they're obviously scams that are just trying to get a few zillion facebook shares. But why?

SEO & Social | More SEO effect by liking the page URL rather than the Facebook Page?
SEOMoz Gurus, I am wondering what our best implementation strategy shoul dbe around linking up the Facebook Like button on our pages. Essentially there are two options: A) Linking the button directly to the Facebook Page of the web site so every Like is actually converting into a Facebook "Fan" which can be messaged going forward through our Facebook page. B) Having them like the actual URL which might be more beneficial from an SEO and viral perspective as now a link to the actual URL gets shared on the Liker's facebook wall and it should also be easier to use that lIke for Google & Co. as it's tied to the actual URL not a random Facebook page given that search engines already convert those signals. Both approaches obviously have their benefits. Are there any common guidelines on what is a better approach to take from a pure SEO perspective? Thanks /Thomas
