Is content important on home page
-
hi. i am working on a site at the moment www.in2town.co.uk and i am trying to decide if on the second column of my site where it says uk news, if i should keep it the way it is and have content under the picture or should i get rid of the content under the picture and just have the main title.
I am wanting to know if the content under the picture is important for google and for the reader or would it be better just to have the title which is h2.
any help would be great.

cheers for this. it is always hard to decide how much content to put on the home page as i would like google to keep coming to the site and seeing new content. what i was worried about is, the small content i have now, not sure if you have looked again, but i am worried that the content is not enough for google to come along and say wow we have new content.

This won't slow down your site, it is perfectly acceptable to have both images and words linking to another page.
Yes it is always good to have relevant fresh content on your site, as you have stated. If you keep the content under UK news and it changes regularly then this should be seen as a good thing. Take the bbc website as an example, it changes content every hour! A small paragraph of content linking to a large page of content will not be seen as duplicate content.
I hope this helps.

i chose to link the image to the page as most online magazines like the sun have it where you can click the title or the image to get to the page. by having two links to the page does this slow the site down.
Also how many words would you feel is suitable to showcase for content. I want people to read a little and then think i want to read the page, but i do not want google to think that it is duplicate content. Also i keep reading that the more content you have on a page which changes then google will come and visit, not sure if this is correct in my case or not.

Diane,
You should be careful of not writing too much content here which might replay as duplicate content on the actual linked page. This doesn't seem too much at the moment though.
I did notice that the heading and image both link to the same page, the image won't count as another link.
On the whole content is good, but it might improve your CTR if you only give a snapshot leading people to want to know more.

Page Indexing without content
Hello. I have a problem of page indexing without content. I have website in 3 different languages and 2 of the pages are indexing just fine, but one language page (the most important one) is indexing without content. When searching using site: page comes up, but when searching unique keywords for which I should rank 100% nothing comes up. This page was indexing just fine and the problem arose couple of days ago after google update finished. Looking further, the problem is language related and every page in the given language that is newly indexed has this problem, while pages that were last crawled around one week ago are just fine. Has anyone ran into this type of problem?

Repeating Content Within Code On Many Pages
Hi, This is sort of a duplicate content issue, but not quite. I'm concerned with the way our code is written and whether or not it can cause problems in the future. On many of our pages (thousands), our users will have the option to post comments. We have a link which opens a JavaScript pop-up with our comments guidelines. It's a 480 word document of original text, but it's preloaded in the source code of every page it appears on. The content on these pages will be relatively thin immediately, and many will have thin content throughout. I'm afraid so many of our pages look the same in both code and on-site content that we'll have issues down the line. Admittedly, I've never dealt with this issue before, so I'm curious. Is having a 480 word piece of text in the source code on so many pages an issue, or will Google consider it part of the template, similar to footer/sidebar/headers? If it's an issue, we can easily make it an actual pop-up hosted on a SINGLE page, but I'm curious if it's a problem. Thanks!

Is this duplicate content when there is a link back to the original content?
Hello, My question is: Is it duplicate content when there is a link back to the original content? For example, here is the original page: http://www.saugstrup.org/en-ny-content-marketing-case-infografik/. But that same content can be found here: http://www.kommunikationsforum.dk/anders-saugstrup/blog/en-ny-content-marketing-case-til-dig, but there is a link back to the original content. Is it still duplicate content? Thanks in advance.

Is the " meta content tag" important?
I am currently trying to optimize my companies website and I noticed that meta content is exactly the same for all of the pages on our website. Isn't this problematic? The actual content on the webpage is not the same and a lot of the pages don't have these keywords in the content.

Blog Ranking NOT home page main website?!
Hi, Our Blog (http://blog.thailand-investigation.com) is ranking for some of our major keywords but not our home page (http://www.thailand-investigation.com)!? Our blog is WordPress and our main website is HTML. It seems like the search engines consider that they are 2 separate websites!? When I check the incoming links to our website, I get also the blog links!!!??? Is it normal? Do I have to build a relation of some kind or write some code saying that it is our Blog... I don't know! I'm not a SEO specialist or even a webmaster. I'm a small business owner and take care on my website. I created by myself but never learned! So, please help! Thanks

SEOMoz is indicating I have 40 pages with duplicate content, yet it doesn't list the URL's of the pages???
When I look at the Errors and Warnings on my Campaign Overview, I have a lot of "duplicate content" errors. When I view the errors/warnings SEOMoz indicates the number of pages with duplicate content, yet when I go to view them the subsequent page says no pages were found... Any ideas are greatly welcomed! Thanks Marty K.

Video thumbnail pages with "sort" feature -- tons of duplicate content?
A client has 2 separate pages for video thumbnails. One page is "popular videos" with a sort function for over 700 pages of video thumbnails with 10 thumbnails and short desriptions per page. (/videos?sort_by=popularity). The second page is "latest videos" (/videos?sort_by=latest) with over 7,000 pages. Both pages have a sort function -- including latest, relevance, popularity, time uploaded, etc. Many of the same video thumbnails appear on both pages. Also, when you click a thumbnail you get a full video page and these pages appear to get indexed well. There seem to be duplicate content issues between the "popular" and "latest" pages, as well as within the sort results on each of those pages. (A unique URL is generated everytime you use the sort function i.e. /videos?sort_by=latest&uploaded=this_week). Before my head explodes, what is the best way to treat this? I was thinking a noindex, follow meta robot on every page of thumbnails since the individual video pages are well indexed, but that seems extreme. Thoughts?
