Buying Branded URL's

Hello
A competitor of mine has a bunch of branded terms that they purchased, with backlinks point to their main site, is there a specific reason they do this? If I analyze the links on the "branded url" theres it has very little juice/authority? Is it worth it to do this?
I have a .ca and something similar to our site re-directing through register.com in Iframe. But would they just be using those terms because it has high search volume? Would this help me in anyway?

Do "Branded" urls work the same way as exact match url's in google eyes? Is there any harm in doing this myself? What would be the easiest way to setup a single page, have somone host it, and have re-direct link to my homepage or inner pages?

Seems they just like to go for the "Google says in their updates that Brand is important" approach; likely that they want to balance strong shorthead linkbuilding with a bunch of branded backlinks - that sometimes does work quite nice

Why aren't my links being indexed
I am building backlinks from similar sources to 2 different domains. Domain A seems to get its linked indexed within a day or 2, while Domain B has virtually identical links that haven't indexed for over a month. Domain A is older and has more authority, and Domain B is hosted on a different server. Any insight into why this is happening? It's very frustrating.

How do I help an author of family histories and biography's reach her niche's
Please have a look at this site for me http://www.louisewilson.com.au/ louise also has about six blogs on different books she has written. She has sold a few thousand copies which is great and has help people find out where they came from. Not many of these people have linked to her site's and she is not getting the traffic she deserve's for lots of long tail keywords and some broader ones. What simple on page changes can she make and what would be the best broader keyword's to go after. What would a good strategy be she has a very small ( tiny ) budget but can write and is enthusiastic , It's also a great way for her to be involved with people who are interested in simalar thing's. Oh yeah she has never used facebook of social networks how could she effectivly market her books and engage with potential reader's. Thanks in advance Oh and by the way Im not getting paid to help her Just incase you think i'm trying to get you to do my work for me. I just think this is an interesting case. I do do sales for an IT and SEO company but she is not one of our clients. So far I have just explained to her about keywords in titles meta tags and internal linking and just explained to her a bit about link building. But really need some help thanks very much. Does the url text count as anchor text in google's algo?
I always try to strive for getting good anchortext in links that people link to my sites with, but sometimes they are not very web savvy, or just plain not willing to format the link the way i want it and we end up with links that use the URL as the anchortext. My question is, if i format a url such that it has keywords in it, and when someone makes a link like this: http://www.storwell.com/self-storage-toronto-bursary-application-form.php does google consider the words: storwell, self, storage, toronto, bursary, application & form as the anchor text?
