Jquery image - hidden text?
-
I'm working on a site that has a jquery image rotation. Wondering if how the developer set it up is consider blackhat or spammy at all. The jquery has 3 images that rotate. Each image has text in it - which is then placed in a H1 or H2 tag behind the images. When viewing the site with images and javascript turned off it looks like the text is the same color as the background and not lined up nicely so that it is visible to anyone who has images and javascript turned off.
Let me know if this is a bad practice. If so, what is the best practice to handle this? If the text were another color and aligned neatly visible behind the image would it be safe? Should we just be using an image alt tag instead? What about losing the H1, H2 power then? Any other suggestions for improving the SEO for jquery image rotations where important text appears?
I can PM the site URL if you want to take a look.
Thanks in advance!

You should be using alt tags, not H1 tags. You should only have one H1 tag per page that describes what the page is about (ideally containing the keyword you are trying to rank for). You probably shouldn't be putting any text behind images as this may be treated as cloaking. If you really want to keep the text behind the images, wrap it in the
<noscript>tags so that it is only visible when javascript is disabled.</p> <p>Other possible solutions is to overlay (caption style) images with your desired text in H2 tags.</p> <p>Cheers</p></noscript>

Image Size in Alt Text
Hi, On our ecommerce site, when we load an image for an item, it automatically loads different sizes for that image. (i.e. High Res, Large, Small, Thumbnail, etc). We have an option to add the size to the alt text of the image (in addition to the description of the picture... so for example "Blue casual shirt High Res"... is this necessary? One of our clients requested this and I am not sure I see the point of having the image size in the alt text unless it helps the visually impaired in some way?

Google Not Indexing Submitted Images
Hi Guys! My question isn't too dissimilar to one asked a couple of years ago, regarding Google and image indexing, but having put my web address into a Google image search, I get a return of 15 images, so something isn't right. 5 months ago I submitted our 'new' site to Google webmaster. We have just moved it onto a Shopify platform. They (Shopify) are good at providing places to add titles and Alt tags and likewise we fill them in (so that box ticked!) However I have noticed over the last couple of months that despite 161 images being submitted, only 51 have been indexed. Furthermore and as I said earlier, when you put our site, site:http://www.hartnackandco.com into Google images, it only returns a total of 15 images. Any suggestions and help would be wonderful! Cheers Nick

How Long Until Manually Removed Anchor Text Links Stop Showing Up?
I've been manually removing spammy links from crappy sites and overly used money terms for several months... how long does it take for those links to stop showing up in crawl reports?

Is it a problem to split anchor text with span / div etc or does it decrease the effect?
Hi, Recently I started seeing more and more anchor text with design variations within them. A noticeable example can be seen in the Distilled top menu.
Technical SEO | | BeytzNet
As you can see there is a part which is in small letters and a part with different fonts. Meaning that there is either an internal span / div / font / italic / etc. or some other attribute within the link (splitting the anchor text). Is it a problem?
Keep in mind that it will be used in the top menu on the most important links. Thanks0 -
Does Google think My main keyword is my Company name due to over use in anchor text?
OK, i have recently noticed google is adding a keyword to my titles... I have attached an image which shows the results from a google site:mywebsite search... 8 out of the 10 results on the screen shot clearly have the keyword ( - CCTV Cameras) added to the end of the title. Now a lot of those pages are support pages i.e "Help & Support", "returns" etc etc.. nothing really to do with cctv cameras. The only thing i can think of, is the most common anchor text used on backlinks to my website (according to siteexplorer) is the keyword cctv cameras... (i am currently working on removing a load of the backlinks to my site due to what i think is some kind of google penalty as the anchor text is all keywords etc...) But it seems strange if google has started to discount these backlinks, that it then uses that keyword to add to my titles - unless of course, google thinks that it is my brand name... Any body have any thoughts on this? FqwooQY.gif

Do we know if inbalanced anchor text distribution also applies to internal links?
I have the pages of my site linked together very well with editorial links in my copy and blog posts. But now I'm starting to wonder post-penguin if it's a problem if all my internal links to a certain page have the same anchor text? Or is my internal link juice not powerful enough to set off a red flag? I don't think I've seen this addressed anywhere or if we even know the answer to this or can only speculate.

Replacing H1's with images
We host a few Japanese sites and Japanese fonts tend to look a bit scruffy the larger they are. I was wondering if image replacement for H1 is risky or not? eg in short... spiders see: Some header text optimized for seo then in the css h1 {
Technical SEO | | -Al-
text-indent: -9999px;
} h1.header_1{ background:url(/images/bg_h1.jpg) no-repeat 0 0; } We are considering this technique, I thought I should get some advise before potentially jeopardising anything, especially as we are dealing with one of the most important on page elements. In my opinion any attempt to hide text could be seen as keyword stuffing, is it a case that in moderation it is acceptable? Cheers0
