Popup Question
-
Hi Everyone,
I have a question. Your input will be very much appreciated.
My company's new website design is using a popup. I have some reservation about it and I want to know what your thoughts are.
Ok, some information on what this popup is like. When a user clicks on a subcategory page, there's a popup that would ask for size, color, etc - it's like a form and those are the criteria. If nothing is selected, the product list on the subcategory page doesn't load - so the only thing is showing is the the H1 and description but everything else is empty.
When a user does select a criteria the landing page is no longer the subcategory but another page with that ID. So basically the user never really land on the subcategory page but to another page with a different query string.
Is this bad for SEO? Would you recommend to keep the popup?
Thanks,
-
The popup is very presumptuous and arrogant. IMO.
Then to show nothing but an H1 and description with everything else empty.
That is backwards.
The company should SHOW the customer a selection up front and let the customer consider.
Where have you seen a website like this before? The visitor will think he is on Koozebane.

If a user isn't actually viewing the page, and it is being served up in a pop up it's not only a bad user experience, but more than likely bad for SEO as well. In order to get a clear understanding of what you mean - I am a visual person - please provide a link to the site, so I can better support my answer.

.htaccess Question
Hi,I have a website www.contractor-accounts.co.uk that has an .htaccess file that strips .php and forces a closing brace /. The site is now over 6 months old and still has a very low ranking with MOZ also rating the site as DA/PA = 1 which seems to indicate some sort of issue with the website. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this site is ranking poorly as much of the onpage SEO has been completed to a level of 90%+ for specific keyterms so I'm probably either looking at routing of the framework of so other technical SEO issues possibly? Any help much apreciated... <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c=""><ifmodule mod_negotiation.c="">Options -MultiViews</ifmodule> RewriteEngine On # Redirect Trailing Slashes...

Back Link Question
Hi Folks, Our domain (www.alabu.com) has been around since 2000. We've accumulated a lot of back links over the years, many of which I don't recognize and didn't ask for. I've been reading on here recently about "cleaning up" back links. I do see a lot of ours that just aren't relevant and I don't know why they decided to link to us. We haven't gotten a warning from google or anything like that, but I wonder, how do I know if we could benefit from cleaning up our back links? Is there a benefit to it even if google hasn't warned us? Thanks! Hal

Question for experts - a website is ranking defying all google rules
Hi all Today I saw a strange result in google's search page. When I typed a keyword: Rezeptfrei bestellen, it gave me results like number 1- http://www.rezeptfreibestellen.com/ If I check this site in opensiteexplorer, this is nothing but a new site with no backlinks, or any other offpage work. Onpage work is simply keyword stuffing and domain name is also same as keyword. Now why google ranked this website above others? Where are google EMD and Penguin, Panda? Amit

But when I created my wordpress site and post on it, it only has a PA and DA of 1. is this because SEOmoz has not indexed it yet? Sub-domains for keyword targeting? (specific example question)
Hey everyone, I have a question I believe is interesting and may help others as well. Our competitor heavily (over 100-200) uses sub-domains to rank in the search engines... and is doing quite well. What's strange, however, is that all of these sub-domains are just archives -- they're 100% duplicate content! An example can be seen here where they just have a bunch of relevant posts archived with excerpts. How is this ranking so well? Many of them are top 5 for keywords in the 100k+ range. In fact their #1 source of traffic is SEO for many of the pages. As an added question: is this effective if you were to actually have a quality/non-duplicate page? Thanks! Loving this community.

Very Quick Joomla Question
Hi, A client's site was previously built in Joomla and he wants us to reproduce content that was in there, but the Joomla site is no longer live and has come to me as an archive containing all the files and folders that were included. So, I am looking at the files and folders without Joomla installed. Can someone tell me quickly how to find the where the actual page content was stored? I started looking, but there are some folders I cannot open and nothing that looks as I expected. Would appreciate a hint or two from someone who knows Joomla well.. Life is too short! Thanks Sha

Magento URL Question
Calling all Magento Kings out there! I'm working on a client' site - powered by magento. I'm looking to rewrite a lot of the URLs. I know there is the URL rewrite tool, but I think what I need to do may go beyond this. Typical example would be: Old URL - http://www.xxxxxxxx.co.uk/fabric/product/product-black-screen-print-and-silver-fabric.html New URL - http://www.xxxxxx.co.uk/fabric/product/silver I know that magento's URLs seem to be created through categories so wanted to double check with someone the best way to do this. Also, I've heard that 301 redirects of non www to www in the .htaccess has a knock on effect on discounts? All comments greatly appreciated.
