Too many on page links
-
Yes this question again. I know it get's asked a lot and I know of a few fixes, but this one I'm having a problem with.
So we have a fan gallery on our site which is not only causing duplicate page titles, which I'm thinking we can fix with a canonical, but also too many on page links.
The issue is this is on drupal which I have very little experience with and it seems to just be located within the fan galleries section of the site. After looking at a few things I know that no-follow wont be an option since from what I read it wont really work anyway so I was wondering if anyone else has an asnwer.
I just read through a million articles trying to find a simular situation and can't seem to find anyone with the same thing. It might have something to do with the plugins the programmers used, but my inexperience with drupal is making this difficult.
Thanks guys.

I love Ray's work
I would honestly not worry too much about the too many page-links. The only issue you will run into is that search engines will not crawl all your content. This you can fix with sitemaps to hint what should be crawled.
You can also hint certain links with "noindex/nofollow" based on what you would like to hint to be indexed/crawled.
The duplicate titles could be fixed by making the title unqiue - either by appending a pageNo or something unique about the page (a username, a date, a title with a category etc).
The canonicals make sense where you have cases where different URLs result in the same page being displayed.

What about user profiles in terms of meta descriptions? I was considering just blocking the user profiles because otherwise all of our pages have descriptions, but also I'm not too concerned about user profiles in the SERPs. I wonder what other opinions are on this because I haven't seen a lot of talk of people talking about sites with user profiles and how they use them on their sites.

You're right I guess I'll leave it unless something happens where it does effect the page. I don't think it should hurt our page ranks anyway we get a lot of social shares on the site because of the person whose site is so hopefully when or if the algorithm does change we will already be optimized for it. I just want to make sure the site is cleaned up as much as possible.

Thanks,
Yes I did read about the Matt Cutts blog mentioning that. The problem with the duplicate titles is they are the same pages with duplicate content so in that case the canonical would make sense because it's literally the same page with the same content and the same title so if the duplicate content is no longer searchable then I was thinking the duplicate titles should also get taken care of in that case or am I wrong on that one?
Most of the issues are coming from the fact that that we do take user submitted content in and put it into a searchable gallery and this has caused some pagination issues, but we already took care of most of those now I just have to get rid of the 404's that are coming from the user accounts.

Hi Kate,
Firstly, what do you mean by 'we can fix with a canonical'? If you are trying to solve the issue of duplicate page titles then I'm afraid you can't simply fix this with a canonical tag as this is not what it is designed for. The canonical tag is a way of informing search engines of your preferred version of a group of similar pages. It effectively acts like a 301 redirect. You will essentially be telling google not to index these pages, which unless you have a duplicate content issue, is not what you want to achieve.
The only way to fix the issue of duplicate page titles is to give each page a unique and descriptive title. If using a CMS, you can generate a template that will help to avoid getting duplicate titles.
Secondly, why do you think you have too many links on the page? You may find this blog post by Matt Cutts helpful. In it he explains that keeping links on a page to a maximum of 100 is only a rough guideline. The target was set primarily from a design and user perspective. In other words, if it makes sense to have more than 100 links on a page and it doesn't harm the overall user experience, you shouldn't worry.
Hope that helps,
Adam.

The user content links are the ones that are putting you 'over the threshold' - just as would be the case if those were products on an ecomm site - in my opinion I would completely disregard that warning for the paginated pages.
-
The paginated pages. User submitted pages seem to have been taken care of, but I wasn't sure if I should fix it or not because your right I also saw that it doesn't effect the pages rankings as much, but I wonder if it would be a good idea to fix it anyway.
-
I wouldn't be too concerned about this error (or more specifically 'warning'). What pages are specifically getting them, the separate user submission pages or the paginated pages?
I've had a lot of ecomm clients who have 30 products listed per page, along with collapsible menus that show all of the 'hidden' links in the source, and have not seen any negative effects from this.
Curious on other opinions here.

Disavow links old links
We have built a lot of sites and there a few sites we no longer manage or want any association with. When I have looked at webmasters I can see 20 to 200+ odd links back to our site. The page however at source has no reference to our website. I have searched the code but there isn't anything. Is it safe to disavow these or just leave them?

Why does my site have so many crawl errors relating to the wordpress login / captcha page
Going through the crawl of my site, there were around 100 medium priority issues, such as title element too short, and duplicate page title, and around 80 high priority issues relating to duplicate page content - However every page listed with these issues was the site's wordpress login / captcha page. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Why are these internal pages not showing any internal links?
If you look at Author profile pages like this one, http://experts.allbusiness.com/author/denise-oberry (THE top contributor on the site with over 82 posts under her belt), or any Author profile page, they show zero internal links or Page Authority. The same goes for most posts for each author on the site. Author pages should show internal links from every post the author has on the site. And specific posts should also have internal links from categories, etc. Yet they show zero. The only posts that show internal links and PA are ones that were either syndicated to the root domain's homepage, or syndicated to Fox Small Business. ZERO internal links. Does anyone know why this is? The root domain does not act this way with Author pages and posts. And I see nothing blocking links or indexing via the robots.txt file or page level nofollow tags. A real head scratcher for this SEO nerd, that I'm sure someone here will have a really simple answer to.

Banned Page
I have been using a 3rd party checker on indexed pages in google. It has shown several banned pages. I type the page in and it comes up. But it is nowhere to be found for me to delete it. It is not in the wordpress pages. It also shows up in the duplicate content section in my campaigns in moz.com. I can find the page to delete it. If it is banned then I do not want to redirect it to the correct page. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Effect of 302 redirects from empty parent page to sub page
A client's website has links to their service pages which then redirect (302 through a php "Location:" header) to that service's first sub-page. For example, our-services/service-x redirects to our-services/service-x/about-service-x I can only think this has been done because there is no actual content for the parent page and to maintain some kind of structure for navigation and URLs. Really there's no reason why the 'about-service-x' page can't be removed and its content transferred to the main 'service-x' page. Then the redirects can be removed also - it's not how a 302 should be used for a start. I'm just wondering what kind of effect this current redirection has on SEO, as I know 302s don't pass any link juice? Thanks for your help.

Homepage dropping back to page 30 and being replaced by a random page?
Hi All Please accept my apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place, i am new to this. I have asked for help over and over again on Google Webmaster Forum but everytime i am faced with sarcastic, unhelpful answers and then moaned at for asking the same question again when i get no answers. Well, my website is http://www.hillfieldscampingandleisure.co.uk. The site is nearly 2 years old and is an ecommerce online camping equipment store. It is hosted on the EKMPOWERSHOP Platform. After a about a year of adding products and designing my site i decided to hire an SEO Company based in the UK, they were a good company with some big clients. Anyways to cut a really long story short....they completely ripped me off by £700 a month for 7 months for my site to keep going backwards, they wouldnt target the keywords i wanted and all they did was provide really spammy, non relevant, no page rank links...my site ended up on number 31 of Google. I managed to drop the company and try to do things myself. I optimized my sites content so it wasn't keyword stuffed I re-wrote all my alt tags to look more natural I optimized my meta and h1 tags I carried on with trying to build relevant, high page rank links Anyways i managed to get my homepage to page 3/4 of Google. It stayed there for a few weeks but over the past few weeks my Homepage is dropping back to page 28-30 and being replaced with a random page of my site on page 4-6. It corrects itself after a while and my homepage returns but then it happens all over again....today i have a random page on page 4 and my homepage is on page 29. Any ideas on what is causing this and how can i get my site up there? I have had some ideas come back that it is the EKM platform i am using but since the seo company took the p out of me, its the only one i can afford at the moment until i start selling. I am a small business with stock waiting to be sold but no matter how much i read and rules to follow my site just doesn't seem to move. Any help would be really really apreciated and be nice!
