Effect of 302 redirects from empty parent page to sub page
-
A client's website has links to their service pages which then redirect (302 through a php "Location:" header) to that service's first sub-page. For example, our-services/service-x redirects to our-services/service-x/about-service-x
I can only think this has been done because there is no actual content for the parent page and to maintain some kind of structure for navigation and URLs. Really there's no reason why the 'about-service-x' page can't be removed and its content transferred to the main 'service-x' page. Then the redirects can be removed also - it's not how a 302 should be used for a start.
I'm just wondering what kind of effect this current redirection has on SEO, as I know 302s don't pass any link juice?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Highland, none of the original URLs have inbound links. I agree it would be better to have a 301 so thanks for the fix. Though I still think it would be even better to get some content on the original URLs and do away with the need for any redirect, but from what you say perhaps keep the 'About' pages too so nothing is moved?
The About pages contain copy that describes what the client does in that area, but only after the general 'about' info. This copy could be moved to the original URL to better sell the service they offer. Then the About page really is just extra information for those who want it.
Thanks again.

Are people linking to the original URL? If not, it's likely not a big deal. Still, it would be better if you had it do a 301.
The good news here is that there's a simple fix if you want your script to return a 301. You need an extra header sent. Here's a PHP snippet of how this works
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location:http://www.newurl.com");Understand that moving your URLs is difficult. Even with 301s, you lose any SEO momentum and only preserve most of the rank the page has. You need to be prepared to take a short term hit if you move URLs.

Is my page being indexed?
To put you all in context, here is the situation, I have pages that are only accessible via an intern search tool that shows the best results for the request. Let's say i want to see the result on page 2, the page 2 will have a request in the url like this: ?p=2&s=12&lang=1&seed=3688 The situation is that we've disallowed every URL's that contains a "?" in the robots.txt file which means that Google doesn't crawl the page 2,3,4 and so on. If a page is only accessible via page 2, do you think Google will be able to access it? The url of the page is included in the sitemap. Thank you in advance for the help!

Redirect to a new domain and seo effects
I created a one page blogger with listing of several affiliated websites.It gained some visibility on google but it was very plain so i decided to create a wordpress more complex and fancy and to reach the top of search positions. At the moment i decided to keep the listing on blogger and add some links on the page saying "i've moved to a new website. click for more info" and it redirects to my page. But i dont get many clicks to my new site so i was thinking to maybe create a full redirect from my blogger to my wordpress or a iframe to fetch the wordpress but im afraid it may hurt my seo on my blogger. what should i do? thanks in advance

3,511 Pages Indexed and 3,331 Pages Blocked by Robots
Morning, So I checked our site's index status on WMT, and I'm being told that Google is indexing 3,511 pages and the robots are blocking 3,331. This seems slightly odd as we're only disallowing 24 pages on the robots.txt file. In light of this, I have the following queries: Do these figures mean that Google is indexing 3,511 pages and blocking 3,331 other pages? Or does it mean that it's blocking 3,331 pages of the 3,511 indexed? As there are only 24 URLs being disallowed on robots.text, why are 3,331 pages being blocked? Will these be variations of the URLs we've submitted? Currently, we don't have a sitemap. I know, I know, it's pretty unforgivable but the old one didn't really work and the developers are working on the new one. Once submitted, will this help? I think I know the answer to this, but is there any way to ascertain which pages are being blocked? Thanks in advance! Lewis

After I 301 redirect duplicate pages to my rel=canonical page, do I need to add any tags or code to the non canonical pages?
I have many duplicate pages. Some pages have 2-3 duplicates. Most of which have Uppercase and Lowercase paths (generated by Microsoft IIS). Does this implementation of 301 and rel=canonical suffice? Or is there more I could do to optimize the passing of duplicate page link juice to the canonical. THANK YOU!

IP redirects
My website, on a .com domain, displays a different language/content depending on the IP of the user. For example, if someone is browsing my web from Spain, it will show the spanish content, and so on. Does anyone has an idea on how will Google index my pages? Their servers being located in the US, I assume the bot will only crawl and index the english content. How can I tell the bots to do the same for the other languages/content? Thanks!

Duplicates on the page
Hello SEOMOZ, I've one big question about one project. We have a page http://eb5info.com/eb5-attorneys and a lot of other similar pages. And we got a big list of errors, warnings saying that we have duplicate pages. But in real not all of them are same, they have small differences. For example - you select "State" in the left sidebar and you see a list on the right. List on the right panel is changing depending on the what you selecting on the left. But on report pages marked as duplicates. Maybe you can give some advices how to improve quality of the pages and make SEO better? Thanks Igor

How to Redirect all inactive Feed to a specific Wordpress page
Hi Guys, I've been doing much cleaning on my blog lately and deleted numerous categories including their posts with low quality content. After deleting the categories, Google Webmaster Tools is reporting some 404 errors about the RSS Feeds for the deleted categories. I've created a 404.php file inside my theme and placed the following code header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
Technical SEO | | Trigun
header("Location: http://www.mysite.com/My404Page/", true, 301);
exit();
?> this have catched all 404 errors and redirected them to the specific page. Unfortunately, it could not catch the inactive feed urls. Is there a way to do this so that all inactive feeds will be redirected to my 404 page? Thanks in advance....0
