Over-Optimized?
-
I have been hearing that the latest algorithmic changes address "Over-Optimization", which sounds very counter-productive for businesses.
Why would Google hurt the companies that have a narrow market or product offering?
Regarding over-optimization, does SEOmoz have a tool to help address those issues?
We saw a strange decrease in our "LMS" keyword, which is the core keyword for http://interactyx.com. I am trying to figure out if we are over-optimized.
Can anyone provide any suggestions and tools I can use to make sure my site now matches what Google wants?
Thanks!

No worries - I appreciate your attention to this matter.
It is a confounding problem that I am frustrated with the black box of terrible search results for legitimate pages.
I am open to an ideas/suggestion you may have.
Thanks, again!

Hi! I was a bit too hasty when I made the robots.txt comment. I do see what you did now there.
For the rest of it, I'll come back this weekend -- just catching up after being out of town for three days for Mozcation in Milwaukee.
-
Thank you for your response!
Most of the competitors for the term "LMS" dropped more significantly that my company did over the last 7 weeks. The search results for the term now have a bunch of junk pages, irrelevant pages and even Facebook groups higher positioned than legitimate companies that have been competing for the term for over 4 years.
For LMS, we camped out at the top of page 2 for a couple months as our best position ever for a couple months (ie May - Jul). I am not as worried about my Google Analytics results as I am about my actual SERP.
I could not be more frustrating to use all of the optimization tools, generate tons of relevant content and continue to get beaten by low Page Rank, junk sites in the search.
Use the SEOmoz Keyword Difficulty tool for LMS and Learning Management System and compare to the Site Explore results for interactyx.com. Either the SEOmoz tools don't line up with what Google is looking for or there is some other problem here.
Maybe I am mistaken, but I do not have my blog blocked by robots.txt. I blocked the pages/categories that were throwing up duplicate content, per SEOmoz. If you see something here that I don't that may be hurting my blog pages, please let me know.
I great appreciate you taking the time to review my situation.

Have you looked at your competitors? Has one of them done something to move higher, thus moving you lower?
Over what time period are you decreasing for the keyword in question? If you're looking long-term, keep in mind that (not provided) now accounts for some of those declines -- you were seeing all of your keywords 18 months ago, but aren't now.
Is there a reason your blog is disallowed in your robots.txt?

Thank you for your response and for sharing those links.
Our main keywords are LMS and Learning Management System. I think I just proved out a case study showing that organic backlinking does not work. It looks like we are forced to purchase a service to buy backlinks.
After 4 years of pursuing our core keywords, developing 4-6 unique content blogs a week, optimizing the site to the point where there are no tools to help any more, having a large social media presence, hundreds of unique visitors a day and we still rank 38th in the SERP.
Google is broken. My last guess is that there is an over-optimization issue, but that may not be the case. So, is there any tool that can be used to gain some insight into this situation?
Wouldn't it make more sense if Google was open-book about the search algorithm so at least we can compete for the areas that make the most sense for our online presence?
Seeing the terrible pages ranking higher in actual results makes me think that the overall user experience from google searches has diminished to the point where people may start migrating away.
Thanks again for your response! It is appreciated.

Hi,
I have studied your site and your site is good, if you want to know about the keywords are appropriate for your landing page then SEOmoz tool of onnpage analysis is best. It can results many important factors about the keyword usability on page. Can i know about your targeted keywords?? because LMS keyword is now 38th position in Google.com. you can applied different link-building services for promoting your keywords and i suggest one thing that is do keyword variation for decreasing over optimization. You can also make strong social profile for social media marketing.
These all three links are best to understand over optimization.

How To Optimize A Page For Multiple Keywords
Hi Guys, In this video by Brian Dean he talks about how to go about optimising for multiple keywords. He basically said the main factors for optimising a page for multiple keywords are the following: Identify other keywords with same search intent as your primary keyword. Add them to title tag strategically, don't stuff them in there. Add as many of those keywords as h2 tags into the content, again when it makes sense. Are there any other more advanced ways you can use to optimize a page for multiple keywords with same search intent that could be good? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

Category Page - Optimization the product's anchor.
Hello, Does anybody have real experience optimizing internal links in the category page? The category pages of my actual client uses a weird way to link to their own products. Instead of creating diferents links (one in the picture, one in the photo and one in the headline), they create only one huge link, using everything as anchor (picture, text, price, etc.). URL: http://www.friasneto.com.br/imoveis/apartamentos/para-alugar/campinas/ This technique can reduce the total number of links in the page, improving the strenght of the other links, but also can create a "crazy" anchor text for the product. Could I improve my results creating the standard category link (one in the picture, one in the photo and one in the headline)? Hope it's not to confuse.

Why does old "Free" site ranks better than new "Optimized" site?
My client has a "free" site he set-up years ago - www.montclairbariatricsurgery.com (We'll call this the old site) that consistently outranks his current "optimized" (new) website - http://www.njbariatricsurgery.com/ The client doesn't want to get rid of his old site, which is now a competitor, because it ranks so much better. But he's invested so much in the new site with no results. A bit of background: We recently discovered the content on the new site was a direct copy of content on the old site. We had all copy on new site rewritten. This was back in April. The domain of the new site was changed on July 8th from www.Bariatrx.com to what you see now - www.njbariatricsurgery.com. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

If Penguin 2.0 targets specific pages and keywords, should I spend less SEO effort on them since will they be harder to optimize? Penalty repair is only starting at end of year.
I’m working with a company that got hit by Penguin 2.0. They’re going to switch to white-hat only for a few months and review analytics before considering repairing the penalty. In the meantime, would it make sense to focus less SEO effort (on-site optimization, link building, etc.) on any pages or keywords that were penalized or hit hardest? Or are those the pages we should work on the most? Thanks for reading!

Best Way to Optimize 38 Local Directory Listing In Major Directories
Hi Folks, I am trying to figure out the best way to get our company's 38 U.S. locations in the major local directories. To start, I'd like to get us listed in the major ones: Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Yelp. I do have the resources myself here on staff to do everything manually. So, I don't necessarily need a service like Yext (but would also like any opinions on that offering if anyone can offer it). But, from what I know in the past, every time you try to claim a local listing within each platform, you have to confirm your existence there somehow - whether it be by a mailed postcard or some sort of automated call they give you. Considering that we want to manage all social and local platforms here at corporate, how can we do this? I am not physically at these locations, but I'm sure this is possible to manage everything through one account. The addresses will be local, but the phone numbers on each local profile will route to our customer service here at corporate because the local locations are mostly administrative. In other words, businesses is booked through corporate and carried out at local destinations. Thoughts/Comments?

Is my landing page "over-optimized"? Please help
Hello out there My website www.painterdublin.com and www.tilers-dublin.com were heavily hit by google panda update on 27.9.2012 and EMD update few days after. I lost about 70% of the traffic mainly from combination of the keywords from my domain name (painter dublin and tilers dublin) and never managed to recover from it. I am wondering if I should also concentrate on rewriting the content of both home landing pages in the terms of "KEYWORD DENSITY". Do you think my content is "OVER OPTIMIZED" for my main keywords? (painter dublin, tilers-dublin). What is the correct use? Is there any tool to guide me? I am aware I am using those terms quite often. I don't want to start deleting those terms before I know the right way to do it. Is there anybody willing to have a look at my sites and give me advice please? kind regards Jaro
