Why is this site ranking better than me
-
Hi just used the compare tool to try and find out why a site is ranking better than me http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons?site=www.lifestylemonthly.co.uk%2F
my site is www.in2town.co.uk and the site i am comparing with is http://www.lifestylemonthly.co.uk/
Can anyone explain what is going on and how i can achieve better ranking results
-
how can i check for negative links
-
If you're finding an abnormal amount of back-links coming to you, somebody could be performing negative SEO on your site. Keep an eye out and try and report them to Google.
I believe Tommy may be referring to the fact you have a lot of things going on, and maybe increasing your sites bounce rate, as people maybe overwhelmed and quickly navigating away. You'd have to split-test your home page to see if that is in fact a problem.

thank you for this. i paid a seo guy a couple of hundred pounds for advice as i was getting frustrated. my budget is really small and embarrasing until i get the site paying for itself. Basically the seo guy said there was nothing on my site to say it was a lifestyle magazine, so said that i should put a description at the bottom of the page and also put the title of the site at the top of the page.
He also said to put things like
Celebrities In The News With In2town Lifestyle Magazine
can you please explain the following:
worse user experience because of the amount of text? high bounce rate?
-
remove those spammy meta keywords
-
lifestylemonthly is very active on Facebook, shares and likes - how can i improve this
I am finding i get a lot of backlinks that i cannot take any control over and not sure why they are linking to my site.

Some thoughts:
- why is the
font-size:10 and hidden at the top?
- worse user experience because of the amount of text? high bounce rate?
-
remove those spammy meta keywords
-
make a more user friendly meta description
-
lifestylemonthly is very active on Facebook, shares and likes
-
check your exact anchor texts and remove links from spammy sites. Its better to have few links then many bad links.
- You are ahead on all OSE factors except the registered social shares Summary:
-
remove all those details that makes the website look over optimized
-
improve the usability
-
check for bad links
Hope this will help you!
-
i used the keyword - lifestyle magazine

Site structure headache
Hello all, I'm struggling to get to grips with a websites site structure. I appreciate that quality content is key etc, and the more content the better, but then I have issues with regards to doorway pages. For example im now starting to develop a lot of ecommerce websites and want to promote this service. should we have pages that detail all of the ins and outs of ecommerce - or should we simplify it to a couple of pages. what is best practice? Also isn't a content hub similar to having doorway pages? let me know what you think! William

To integrate a blog tool onto site - or build a blog solution - what's better for SEO?
Currently looking at adding a blog to our company site subdirectory and wanted to know if there was a SEO distinction between the following methods: Integrating a bolt-on blog tool with the site to create the blog VS. just using the current site infrastructure to build blog functionality. What's better for SEO? (and if tool integration is the overwhelming response - which tool?). Cheers.

Site Purchase and 301
Hello, I just started working with a new client. Since then the client has purchased another company. We have re-branded the new companies home page and 301 redirected the rest of the site's links to the corresponding pages on the holding companies site. Since then the rankings have tanked. I looked at both companies back link profiles and realized that they are quite spammy from the last SEO contractor they hired. That said, the site was ranking fine until last Friday. I was wondering if anyone had seen temporary rankings decrease after 301ing a domain to a different site? Thanks!

I have noticed my site: joeyvalyphotography.com Does not rank even In the top 50, for my strongest keyword: Orlando Wedding Photographer However, the keyword Orlando engagement Photography/photographer Ranks Very well, and has been rising I'm rank very rapidly over the last two weeks. I'm not sure why my main keyword is not going anywhere, and what my next move should be. I'm considering spending few fhousand dollars on a n seo company, however I though I could learn how to improve my keyword ranking on my own to no avail. Any and all tips, suggestions, advice, will be greatly appreciated.

Are (ultra) flat site structures better for SEO?
Noticed that a high-profile site uses a very flat structure for there content. It essentially places most landing pages right under the root domain folder. So a more conventional site might use this structure: www.widgets.com/landing-page-1/ www.widgets.com/landing-page-1/landing-page-2/ www.widgets.com/landing-page-1/landing-page-2/landing-page-3/ This site in question - a successful one - would deploy the same content like this: www.widgets.com/landing-page-1/ www.widgets.com/landing-page-2/ www.widgets.com/landing-page-3/ So when you're clicking deeper into the nav. options the clicks always roll up to the "top level." Top level pages are given more weight by SEs but conventional directory structures are also beneficial seen as ideal. Why would a site take the plunge and organize content in this way? What was the clincher?
