Html code for none .index
-
In the diagnostic I have several errors in Duplicate Page Content and Title. The thing is that the errors is on the same page but with "different" names. One is called http://siteX.com/ another is called http://www.siteX.com/ and the same third one is called
http://www.siteX.com/index.htmlHow do I go about changing all three sites, I have changed the /index.html one but dont know how to catch the other once. Is it possible, if it is I would like to know how?
-
An other thing.
I missed changing the example.com to my site and no it goes to example.com, even if I change it or even delete the file...still there.
I there a way to go around it?
-
I have done the following, is that correct? If it is why cant I see any directions, for ex. I put www.siteX.com/index.html or siteX.com and get the same ?
-FrontPage-
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index.html\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^index.html$ http://example.com/ [R=301,L]IndexIgnore .htaccess /.?? *~ *# /HEADER /README /_vti
<limit get="" post="">order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from all</limit>
<limit put="" delete="">order deny,allow
deny from all</limit> -
Okay, the fact you already have an .htaccess file means you should be able to try adding the rules I provided. Put them at the top of the .htaccess file and test.
-
Please take what I say below with a grain of salt, as I am very good with .htaccess, but not so great when Frontpage is in the loop. Also back up ALL files before making ANY changes for quick replace if creates a "Internal Server Error"
_vti_bin/
_vti_adm
_vti_authShould be in your structure, each with an .htaccess
add the line
Options +FollowSymlinks
to each one
Now the just add everything streamline metrics has suggested, to the current .htaccess and test
You can try adding what streamline metrics suggests, without the above steps, as .htaccess is not dependent on Frontpage, and the Frontpage extensions have nothing to do with .htaccess (from research i found on the web)

I am not sure what kind of server I have but this is whats in my .htaccess
-FrontPage-
IndexIgnore .htaccess /.?? *~ *# /HEADER /README /_vti
<limit get="" post="">order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from all</limit>
<limit put="" delete="">order deny,allow
deny from all</limit>How do I do it?
-
The first step would be to redirect the http://siteX.com to http://www.siteX.com or vice versa. You can easily do this with .htaccess if you have a LAMP server. Here is the code to put in your .htaccess to redirect from non-www to www (replace example.com with your site name) -
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]As for handling http://siteX.com/index.html, simply redirect that as well with .htaccess -
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index.html\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^index.html$ http://example.com/ [R=301,L]I would also suggest adding a rel="canonical" tag to your pages just in case the search engines come across URLs with parameters, such as index.html?q=1235 then they know to index only the version of the page you designated.
Hope that helps!

HTML Copy in Image Alt Text Field
Hi all, A quick question regarding HTML copy in Image Alt Text fields. An extended client has some landing pages containing infographics, but contrary to our recommendation - no intro copy or surrounding copy was used. The infographic was simply placed on the page, and all of the text of the infographic was placed into the Image Alt Text field. As far as I know, Google would still see that content in the Alt Text field and attribute it to the Infographic, although this would not be sufficient enough of an effort for the page to rank for any of the content used in that field. I'd just like to check that I am correct? And as a consequence - we should insist that they include some copy with the infographic, or alternatively, use HTML text overlays on the infographic instead of flat text in the image itself? Thanks!

Modifying Well Established & Well Indexed Content
I have a page that is very well indexed and has a 1st position ranking in google. It is the best landing page in my site. That being said, it's several years old and I honestly think it could be better. The images could be enlarged, the the images could have fancy box enlargements instead of just linking out to flickr, there could be more content about follow up projects that people have done. I'm noteably nervous about changing such a clutch piece of content on my site. I do want to improve the content for users, not just make it more SEO friendly (it's already SEO'd), but I'm afraid that any change could cause a set back in ranking. Am I being afraid of nothing, should I just go for it and improve my content, or should I be extra cautious when editing well indexed content like this? Thanks for the advice

0 urls indexed in GWT, many found with site: command
Hi, This is happening with a brand new site. We have created sitemaps and submitted them to Google Webmaster Tools. GWT says sitemaps are ok, "x" number of urls submitted, but no urls indexed. When I check in Google with site:domain.com I see that many of the urls are already indexed. Why this discrepancy between GWT and reality? Thanks for your time!

I changed my site from HTML to PHP and I need to get some help.
Ok...so the other day I went from HTML to PHP in every part of my website. I want to know the best option for me for redirecting my pages from HTML to php. I had my site scanned with SEOMoz and I was given many 404 errors which is not at all good. I do not have any pages of my site linking to any of these html pages. All of the site links have been updated. I have checked 3 times. I have never created a robots.txt file so I would love to get a little help with this part. I was thinking it would be best to tell Google not to worry about these pages in the file. I kept the pages up and I plan to remove all code with them so that no content shows up if someone visits but the issue with that is my site is already indexed as HTML. I want to have the HTML pages redirect to the PHP without worrying that my visitors will land on my site via Google onto an HTML page. I hope I am making sense. What is the best advice you can give me. I need all pages to redirect to PHP. I used an htaccess redirect from all HTML to PHP but when I get so many of them added I get an error on my site saying too many redirects. Seriously need help.

Should I let Google index tags?
Should I let Google index tags? Positive? Negative Right now Google index every page, including tags... looks like I am risking to get duplicate content errors? If thats true should I just block /tag in robots.txt Also is it better to have as many pages indexed by google or it's should be as lees as possible and specific to the content as much as possible. Cheers
