The "100 links/page recommendation" - Do Duplicate Links Count?
-
We have way too many links on our homepage. The PageRank Link Juice Calculator (www.ecreativeim.com/pagerank-link-juice-calculator.php) counts them to 300.
But all of them are not unique, that is some links point to the same URL.
So my question: does the "100 links/page recommendation" refer to all anchors on the page or only to unique link target URLs?
I know "100" is just a standard recommendation.
-
ok - might be better using the robots.txt file for that but I do see where you're coming from.

We do use nofollows on some internal links. Not for PR sculpting reasons, but for bot crawling reasons. There is no point in telling Gbot to crawl our buy button links.
-
No problem.
I think the latest link I've posted should help justify not implementing nofollows on internal links.
Would be interesting to hear about your results when you've chosen a course of action!
-
No, 'dilution' shouldn't be an issue - although this is opinion based on experience and obviously not from Google.
If there is legitimate reason for the links to be there then there shouldn't be a problem.
I wouldn't recommend nofollowing internal links and here's a great example of why http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4161726.htm

Thanks for pointing me to the video, Elias.
If I understand Matt correctly, when having several links on a single page that point to the same destination URL, links 2-n will dilute PR.
-
Yes. But do the other two links to our contact page dilute the link juice that gets passed on to other links on the page?
Would you not think those two duplicate links would be counted as "nofollow" links by Google and thereby dilute link juice?
-
Hi,
Matt Cutts has said in the past that Google only counts the first link to a page. So if there are 3 links to your contact page, it will be the first one that is noted by Google (the first link in the code structure, not necessarily the order in which it appears on the page.
This video may give you more info...
I hope this helps!

Web designer doesn't see duplicate pages or issues??? Help!
I have a website that has duplicate pages, and I want to fix them. I told my web guy and his response was: "we do not see any issues on our end. It is not hurting any ranking in the 3 major searches. We have no duplicate pages" Here's the site http://www.wilkersoninsuranceagency.com/ Here's the home page again http://www.wilkersoninsuranceagency.com/index.php Here's what MOZ say: Please see attached image. I'm not sure what to tell him, as i'm not a web person, but MOZ is telling me we have issues on the site and I feel like they should be fixed?? 7QWkVU0 tYCjV

Duplicate product content/disclaimers for non-e-commerce sites
This is more a follow-up to Rand's recent Whiteboard "Handling User-Generated & Manufacturer-Required Duplicate Content Across Large Numbers of URLs." I posed my question in the comments, but unsure it will get picked up. My situation isn't exactly the same, but it's similar: Our site isn't an e-commerce site and doesn't have user reviews yet, but we do have maybe 8 pages across 2 product categories featuring very similar product features with duplicate verbiage. However, we don't want to re-write it because we want to make it easy for users to compare apples-to-apples to easily see which features are actually different. We also have to run disclaimers at the bottom of each page.\ Would i-framing the product descriptions and disclaimers be beneficial in this scenario, with the addition of good content? It would still be nice to have some crawlable content on those pages, so the i-framing makes me nervous unless we compensate with at least some above-the-fold, useful content that could be indexed. Thanks, Sarah

Will a on-page food/drink menu take away from my target keywords?
I am trying to rank for Chicago corporate events, so I am writing new content for a landing page. I have a description of our venue and why one should have a corporate event there, all content that is very rich in corporate event keywords. I then go on to say our drink packages and food packages. Overall, my actual keyword targeted content is 1/5 of the content and the other 4/5 is menu. At first I thought the more content the better, but now that I realize a lot fo the content is just saying different foods and alcohols I'm questioning my strategy. I'm going to do my metas and h1s and stuff with corporate event keywords. But is the menu going to get in the way of ranking for the corporate event keywords? Thanks in advance 🙂

Will Google re-index the page if content is changed/improved?
Hello,
On-Page Optimization | | wickedsunny1
i have a little question, it seems most of my posts which are 3 years old or even more, all have almost same type of 2-3 lines of text at post starting and then images roundups etc.
which recently stopped getting any traffic from google. Probably becuase of lack in text etc.
So if i now edit those old pages, will they be reindexed in google with this new content/data?
thanks in advance.

Which pages should use rel="canonical" links?
I have many pages showing up as multiple content. Most of the them belong to product pages for my store, login pages that show up everywhere on the site, etc. I know that I need to use the rel=canonical link in the header but after searching the forum I'm still unsure of what pages need it. Is it the pages that I don't want searched/crawled by Google or the other way around? Thanks! Crystal

Too many on-page links
Hi, My website - www.thepartyhouse.com.au is showing as having too many on-page links for over 4,000 pages. Take for example the homepage which is showing as 188 links, but I don't understand this because I've used SEO tools to display the links and I am showing around 90 links on this page. How can I see what all the links are? Thanks

Footer link to home page?
Quick question - is it a best practice to add a footer link on each page of a website that points back to your home page, with the anchor text being your official brand name?
