my site has disappeared from the serps. Could someone take a look at it for me and see if they can find a reason why? It used to rank around 4 for the search "austin wedding venues" and it still ranks number three for this search on Bing. I haven't done any SEO work on it in a while so i don't think i did anything to make Google mad but now it doesn't even rank anywhere in the top 160 results. Here's the link:
http://austinweddingvenues.org
Thanks in advance Mozzers!

Actually, what you need to build is more content.
-
One more question....being as this site has very few links, would it hurt or help to add about 10 of the highest page rank directory links on the seomoz directory list before getting some natural links first?
Thanks again everyone!
-
Yes, i think it is EMD. i'll build more thanks, thanks for the input!
-
I just checked and don't see any messages that are saying i have an issue. I think this was EMD.
-
I just read up on the EMD algo change and i think that was it. i'm going to have to build more links to get it back i think....thanks everyone for the input!

No, i always keep my customized search set to off. i checked my ranking by typing in "austin wedding venues" in google in internet explorer. This isn't just a simple drop from competitors building links and knocking me down a few places. my site has disappeared from the serps. any clue as to why this happened? I'm stumped....

One more suggestion. You are not using .htaccess to either force www or force non-www. From the way you typed your link above, it seems you don't want to use www. Therefore, put this in your .htaccess file..
# Redirect www urls to non-www RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.
austinweddingvenues\.org [NC] RewriteRule (.*) http://
austinweddingvenues.org/$1 [R=301,L]
Be sure to also specify this in Google Webmaster tools. You will need to verify that you have access to both www and non-www, so do that first before adding the lines above to your .htaccess file.

Good advice from these people. Check Google Webmaster tools for any notifications. I'm leaning towards Deb's explanation: Exact Match Domain.
You only have 17 root domains linking to you. Try to increase that
You also only have 2 pages indexed in Google. Have you submitted your sitemap to them? Have you checked to make sure you aren't blocking the bots?
-
when did you lose the ranking .. seem like EMD is the culprit but no way to tell unless we have the exact date
-
Hi Ron,
The first thing to ask is when you were seeing your website ranking around 4th how did you do this? Did you use a ranking tool or your browser. The reason I ask is that when using a browser your search results can be personalized to you. So if you often go to your website then you may see it for a keyword search when really it isn't placed there. To be sure exactly where you rank use a non-personalized search or a ranking tool like the one on SEOMoz.
Second, it doesn't look like you are doing anything odd on-site (i.e. no black-hat seo tactics) so that's good. And, your backlinks are low so not sure if that would be the case but you need to have a look at Google Webmaster Tools to confirm.
Thirdly, a drop in rankings could be due to competition. If your competitors are actively optimizing their website and building quality links and you aren't then they can knock you off the rankings.
Hope that helps some.

Shot in the dark here, but have you checked your Google Webmaster account for any messages from Google? I know some folks whose rankings went way down and didn't know why until they checked and found the dreaded "unnatural links" letter waiting for them.

Can affiliate links affect DA?
Hey guys, over the past two months my DA has gone down from 17 to 12, and I have no dura what could have caused it. I started putting in some Amazon affiliate links in my posts - could that be the reason why? Also, I have about 30 backlinks from a blog with a spam score of 11% - could this also be affecting it in any way?

PDF Sharing sites - scribd/dropbox/edocr/etc Cleaning Up SEO History
Howdy, Whilst in the process of cleaning up a new clients seo profile and have encountered a lot of techniques I am uncomfortable with and in my opinion should be removed. One technique I have not seen before is using a load of pdf sharing and video sites. The domains have high DA ratings, but to me the intention is highly questionable. The sites include: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tuxb8w1qowcm27i/Looking for boiler spares-geniune parts and consumables.pdf?dl=0 http://www.scribd.com/doc/241542076/Looking-for-Boiler-Spares-geniune-Parts-and-Consumables http://www.divshare.com/download/26207602-569 And so the list goes on for about 50 domains. Am I correct to be concerned here and what was the seo plan here? Thanks in advance. Andy Southall. (Marz Ventures)

Whether to use new domain or old ecommerce site domain that has been incomplete for a long time.
Hello, We are starting a second store in our niche. Which of the following should I choose: A. We have a site from a year and a half ago that we put content on but never actually added products. The category and article content needs to be completely rewritten. We will completely rewrite the content to be much better and up to date. We're planning on adding products and rewriting the manufacturer descriptions. B. We could use a new domain that is closer to exact match for our main keyword. We'd just buy one for $15 I don't know whether A or B would be the fastest way to get the site going. I'm concerned that leaving a site half done for a year could cause an issue, but I really don't know. If you've got experience with this, please advise. Thank you.

Can I 301 redirect old URLs to staging URLs (ex. staging.newdomain.com) for testing?
I will temporarily remove a few pages from my old website and redirect them to a new domain but in staging domain. Once the redirection is successful, I will remove the redirection rules in my .htaccess and get the removed pages back to live. Thanks in advance!

Partner Site Hit with Penguin - Links hurt me
I work for a network of international websites, the site I work on is for Canada. Our partners in Australia were hit by penguin hard because they hired a black hat SEO guy and didn't know. He was creating profiles on highly authoritative sites and keyword stuffing them. Now, they've completely dropped off the SERP. This is where the issue occurs, because we are all international partners we are all linked together on the header of every page so visitors can choose their country. Now, because they were hit hard and we have reciprocal links (not for rankings but for usability) will we be affected? It seems like we have, but I just want some opinions out there. Also, should we go ahead and stop linking our sites between countries to avoid this mess?

Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations?
Hi All, In relation to this thread http://www.seomoz.org/q/what-happend-to-my-ranks-began-dec-22-detailed-info-inside I'm still getting whipped hard from Google, this week for some reason all rankings have gone for the past few days. What I was wondering though is this, when Google says- Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations? I assume my site hits the nail on the head- [removed links at request of author] As you can see I target LG Optimus 3D Sim Free, LG Optimus 3D Contract and LG Optimus 3D Deals. Based on what Google has said, I know think there needs to be 1 page that covers it all instead of 3. What I'm wondering is the best way to deal with the situation? I think it should be something like this but please correct me along the way 🙂 1. Pick the strongest page out of the 3 2. Merge the content from the 2 weaker pages into the strongest 3. Update the title/meta info of the strongest page to include the KW variations of all 3 eg- LG Optimus 3D Contract Deals And Sim Free Pricing 4. Then scatter contract, deals and sim free throughout the text naturally 5. Then delete the weaker 2 pages and 301 redirect to the strongest page 6. Submit URL removal via webmastertools for the 2 weaker pages What would you do to correct this situation? Am I on the right track?
