An Easy Question - Backlinks
-
Hi guys,
I know this is an easy question and I'm already quite sure of the answer for it but it would be good to get some other views.
This website - http://www.collapso.net/ have 261,923 backlinks to our website according to Ahrefs.
They have 1000's of pages like this - http://www.collapso.net/countiesnew/Cork.html which link to our site.
43.95% of the backlinks to our site are from these guys but we've been fortunate enough to never receive any warnings via WMT or ever experienced drop offs in traffic.
My question is - Do we have this site remove all the links to our site or leave them alone?
Given there's such a large quantity of links, I'm not exactly sure what the impact would be on us.
My instinct says get rid of them. Although part of me questions what such a massive drop in our link profile would look like to Google.

I really wouldn't worry about these links, I don't think these are going to harm your backlink profile.
Instead of spending time getting these removed I'd spend the time looking for good quality, relevant links. No point wasting your time on these or incurring the risk changing your backlink profile...

Hi Doug,
Great points.
These links were never manually built by us. To-date, we haven't done any form of link building. Any links which point to our site have occurred naturally.
In the case of this website linking to us, they are scraping content to inform users of their site about price drops in the property sector.
All of the links they have are pointing to individual property pages on our site.
To me it seems like they're just using the meta-descriptions as anchor text.

I'm not sure how much link equity you're earning from those links (even given the vast number). With so many links on each page and the relatively low page authority of the linking page I'd be surprise that these links make much of a difference.
Questions to ask yourself though:
Is the site linking to you a legitimate/authentic site. Does it exist for a reason other than "to provide links"
Why do these links exist? Do they exist for a legitimate reason? (Without knowing your site it's hard to be specific).
How long have these links existed and what's the anchor text.
How is the linking site ranking for it's own target keywords - you can use this as an indicator for the authority/reputation google believe that site has. (The site you mention seems to be raking well for Irish property price tracker" etc.
My gut feeling (without too much digging) is not to worry about it.

If they haven't affected you this far, i'd say just leave them alone, they don't seem to be doing any harm.

Should I actively filter very similar questions (but not worded identically) and answers for my Q/A Website?
We're setting up a medical Q/A on our website. I anticipate a lot of questions being asked, which we have already answered before through other questions in the Q/A. For example "How do I plan my pregnancy if I am Diabetic?" , "I have been Diabetic for the past 5 years, and am planning to start a family. What should be my approach regarding this? Should I: Write two different answers for each question, but which will eventually have the same meaning. Some answers could end up looking almost identical. Redirect new questions to the old question by posting a link of the answer. Merging the two questions, or deleting on of the two. What is the best solution for maximising SEO Benefits, and minimizing the chances of a penalty?

Launching large content project - date-stamp question
Hello mozzers! So my company is about to launch a large scale content project with over 100 pieces of newly published content. I'm being asked what the date-stamp for each article should be. Two questions:
Technical SEO | | Vacatia_SEO
1- Does it hurt article's SEO juice to have a lot of content with the same "published on" date?
2- I have the ability to manually update each articles date stamp. Is there a recommended best practice? p.s. Google has not crawled any of these pages yet.1 -
Detail page popup questions for real estate client
My client, discoverstl.com, recently changed their site structure so that the detail page for individual property opens as a popup within the main page they are visiting, see http://d.pr/i/e8ik after clicking view details on the featured property on the home page. While the url links out to a properly formatting detail page, such as VIEW DETAILS, the developer says this doesn't affect google as its a javascript tweak that pulls it into the existing page. I'm still not convinced and am looking if this is bad for our SEO campaign. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Forum profile section or signature line as backlink
Hi, Forum profile section or signature line as backlink VS Answering a question and giving a related post URl as the answer is better? I have the above question on which would be better Would a signature or website name in the profile is valuable then a link to your site where information is available? Does Google consider both as spam/blackhat? Thanks

Duplicate titles Question
Hi eveyone, I have around 1000 duplicate titles and meta description. The poblem was that I had pages in my home page and different pages had the same title. For example, index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/ /index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/N12//index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/N1444//index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/N1448//index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/N1448/P6//index.php/site/articles/should_you_eat_protein_every_2-3_hours_for_muscle_growth/N1452/I have 172 of the same page!So I took off all the pagination on my home page and just added 'click fo more'. When they click more, it takes them to the category. So my question is will google slowly start deleting or non-indexing these duplicate titles or pages as I have removed it from my website? (Just so that you know I added a canonical link and figuring out how to add page numbers to met titles and meta description tags for categories with pages)

Parameter Handling - Nourls Question
We're trying to make sense of Google's new parameter handling options and I seem unable to find a good answer to an issue regarding the NoUrl option. For ex. we have two Urls pointing to the same content: http://www.propertyshark.com/mason/ny/New-York-City/Maps/Manhattan-Apartment-Sales-Map?zoom=1&x=0.518&y=0.3965 http://www.propertyshark.com/mason/ny/New-York-City/Maps/Manhattan-Apartment-Sales-Map?zoom=2&x=0.518&y=0.3965 Ideally, I would want Google to index only the main Url without any parameters, so http://www.propertyshark.com/mason/ny/New-York-City/Maps/Manhattan-Apartment-Sales-Map To do this, I would set the value No Urls for the zoom, x and y parameters. By doing this do we still get any SEO value from back links that point to the URLs with the parameters, or will Google just ignore them?
