Can Keyword-Stuffing on a Single Page Penalize My Entire Site?
-
Hi forum! I want to improve my internal linking through adding keyword-rich anchor text to my search results pages (my site has an internal search engine for products).
For example, if I were a shoes store, my product search engine results are currently:
-Running
-Hiking
-Walking
-Trackand I want to make them actual keyword-terms by changing them to:
-Running Shoes
-Hiking Shoes
-Walking Shoes
-Track ShoesThis creates a problem - the keyword "shoes" is stuffed on the page.
I don't care how well these dynamic search results pages appear in search, only the actual product pages. Is it okay to keyword stuff on these pages, or would it penalize my entire site?

Nice article on 'Money Keyword' Anchor text.
All of our search results links' anchor text is unique and we have over 60,000 of these pages. I am pretty sure they will be diversified enough. They are all somewhat specific, so I am pretty certain they will not match exactly what the user searches for in Google most of the time.
Another question that has come up.
For example, 2 of my pages are competing in google: A product page ranking 4th, and a dynamic search results page ranking 5th.Would no-indexing the search results page make the product page shoot up higher than 4, or is the purpose of removing competition just to guide the user more specifically where I want them?
As long as I use the the noindex tag in a robots.txt file correctly, do I have your blessing? Thanks so much!

OK, that's different from what I was getting from your original post (which is why it never hurts to double check). I understood it as you wanted improve your internal linking and do anchor text to help your INTERNAL search results w/in your on-site search function/search engine.
Keep in mind that too perfect anchor text can actually hurt you, too: http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2172839/Google-Penguin-Update-Impact-of-Anchor-Text-Diversity-Link-Relevancy
Creating dynamic product pages will compete with your regular product pages in rankings for those shared keywords unless you no index them (not the same thing as no follow). No index means that Google can follow the link but shouldn't index it but you want page rank to be passed along to links.
I'd consider reading up on the subject of no index to confirm your comfort level with how to do this - especially since I'm trying to interpret what you want and I may not be correct and don't want to possibly hinder your goals

Hmm. Well, our main goal in the anchor text changes is to give a boost to our product pages rankings. We currently don't see very good results from either, so I am not sure if they are competing.
To rephrase my second question, if a page is not indexed in Google (probably via a tag), does link anchor text on that page have any merit?
-
Not ranking in Google won't touch what results you can serve up within your own site; as you mentioned you have your own internal search function/search engine and that's why you wanted to create this in the first place.
Also, not having them indexed in Google means they won't compete w/ your regular product pages for rankings in Google. Of course, this is assuming that I understood your goal correctly.

If I block my search results pages from being indexed by Google, will these new anchor text changes have any effect?
-
I absolutely agree with Andrea here and recommend blocking Google from indexing your search result pages.
-
I've had it happen to me, so it's a matter of if you want to take the risk in the first place and wait it out and hope you like the outcome.
-
I wouldn't worry about these pages being indexed. Google should automatically pick up on the URL parameters as they do with all my ecommerce clients. There are occasions where certain parameters have to be removed manually through webmaster tools, but Google is getting pretty good at deciphering this stuff on their own

Wanting to use long tail keywords is not really the same thing as keyword stuffing. You're just using anchor text to highlight the long tail keywords ("hiking shoes") that best describe your product vs. stuffing a page to an un-natural level with just the word "shoe" in an obvious attempt to rank for the term.
So I wouldn't fear stuffing penalties, although...depending on how crawl-able your new search page results will be, then be prepared that it can change what page ranks for what keywords unless you use a robots.txt or something to block/control search engines from accessing it. Ex: dynamic pages competing against the actual product pages for rankings for the long tail keywords.
And that's not the same thing as a penalty, that's just possibly what can happen when you make changes to content.

Topical keywords for product pages and blogs
Hi all, I have a question regarding keywords. Of course we all know that keyword research should be focused on a certain topic and on user intent (and thus on answering specific questions) instead of trying to put keywords in a page to make it rank. However, duplicate content is of course still an issue. So here's my question: A client that sells floor heating systems that you can install yourself, has a product page for this topic and blog pages for questions regarding this topic. So following pages are on the website: Product page about the floor heating systems the client sells Blog article with tips how to install a floor heating system yourself Blog article about how to choose the right floor heating system These pages all answer different questions and are written about different topics. However, inevatibly all these pages also talk about different aspects of floor heating systems so this broad term comes up on all pages naturally. You could say that a solution is to merge pages and redirect the blogs to the product page, so the product page would answer all questions. But that is not what a customer is looking for. The goal of a product page is to trigger a conversion: let a customer contact the company or ask for a price offer. If the content on a product page is not comprehensive enough, the goal gets lost. Moreover, it doesn't make sense to talk about tips and tricks on a product page. So how do you tackle this problem without creating duplicate content? In search results, the blog pages rank for the specific questions, but the product page doesn't rank for the generic term 'floor heating'. The internal link structure is ok: the product page has obviously more incoming links than the blogs. All on page SEO factors are taken care of as well. Any ideas on this? Thanks!

How can another country domain appear in a page title?
I have run into something i have never seen before. A friend has a website with two country domains, so page titles for the homepages of both websites look like this: Rent your care here | carrentals.de Rent your car here | carrentals.co.uk The thing is, both are perfectly well set-up in Yoast. Yet when googling, the different URL's both appear like this: Rent your car here | carrentals.co.uk How could this happen?

Is this keyword easy to rank? how can I estimate what kind of work it takes.
I am Using Micro Niche Finder KeyWord: Send SMS online domain available: .org Avg. Monthly searches: 1600 Adword cost : 2.12 Measure of Back link: 633 SOC: 20 (green) Most of the Back link using Majestic SEO appear to be coming from sendhub.com and massmailsoftware.com website. I researched sites with these keywords and those sites appear to have tiered pricing plans and appear to be charging money for their services. My plan, put some effort in organic SEO and rank this site to page 1. Get some optin users and start communicating with them to see what is their pain point. How can I tell on what it takes to rank this page to page 1 on google? Would it take lot of blog articles for back link and if so… how many? Is a rough estimate possible. Thanks.

Outranking a crappy outdated site with domain age & keywords in URL.
I'm trying to outrank a website with the following: Website with #1 ranking for a search query with "City & Brand" Domain Authority - 2 Domain Age - 11 years & 9 months old Has both the City & brand in the URL name. The site is crap, outdated.. probably last designed in the 90's, old layouts, not a lot of content & NO keywords in the titles & descriptions on all pages. My site ranks 5th for the same keyword.. BEHIND 4 pages from the site described above. Domain Authority - 2 Domain Age - 4 years & 2 months old Has only the CITY in the URL. Brand new site design this past year, new content & individual keywords in the titles, descriptions on each page. My main question is.... do you think it would be be beneficial to buy a new domain name with the BRAND in the URL & CITY & 301 redirect my 4 year old domain to the new domain to pass along the authority it has gained. Will having the brand in the URL make much of a difference? Do you think that small step would even help to beat the crappy but old site out? Thanks for any help & suggestions on how to beat this old site or at least show up second.

Rank keeps decreasing - Is my site penalized
Hello, I have run into a bit of a predicament. All of my search terms keep dropping on a monthly basis, even though I am adding quality guest posts every month. Even if I get a handful of articles on semi-popular sites my ranking still drop. I am wondering, is my site penalized? My metrics also over exceed my rankings using both the Moz metrics and pagerank. I have a PR of 5 and domain rank of 50+ and I am still getting outranked on every term by people with lower metrics (PR 2 and DR of 30) In the past I have done mostly article syndication through sites like ezinearticles and isnare, but that was about 5 years ago. I have also done a couple of the "pay $50 for 100 directory submissions" once but that was also about 5 years ago. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Anyone have any advice? As you can probably tell I am getting really frustrated. P.S. - This is happening for all pages on my website, not just particular pages. Is is possible to get a site wide penalty, and if so, what can be done about it?

Googlebot Can't Access My Sites After I Repair My Robots File
Hello Mozzers, A colleague and I have been collectively managing about 12 brands for the past several months and we have recently received a number of messages in the sites' webmaster tools instructing us that 'Googlebot was not able to access our site due to some errors with our robots.txt file' My colleague and I, in turn, created new robots.txt files with the intention of preventing the spider from crawling our 'cgi-bin' directory as follows: User-agent: * Disallow: /cgi-bin/ After creating the robots and manually re-submitting it in Webmaster Tools (and receiving the green checkbox), I received the same message about Googlebot not being able to access the site, only difference being that this time it was for a different site that I manage. I repeated the process and everything, aesthetically looked correct, however, I continued receiving these messages for each of the other sites I manage on a daily-basis for roughly a 10-day period. Do any of you know why I may be receiving this error? is it not possible for me to block the Googlebot from crawling the 'cgi-bin'? Any and all advice/insight is very much welcome, I hope I'm being descriptive enough!

Pages and Keyword Structures, what do you think?
Hi, So I think the best way to do this would be to layout a fictitious example so here it is. Lets say you offer plumbing and painting services and want to start targeting 3 more locations near by. 'Plumber +Location' and 'Painter +Location' both get the exact same search so are equal. I would personally create a new page called '/plumber-and-painter-location/' Then have the title tag contain both keywords 'Plumber and Painter +Location'. BUT... maybe it would be better to have a page for each as this would then be more relevant SEO wise and the customer looking for a painter wouldn't be presented with non-relevant plumbing content. But this does mean now instead of 3 pages you need 6. And if you bolted on another services such as Plastering instead of the 3 pages you need 9. Basically If you offered Plumbing, Painting & Plastering in 3 different locations how would you structure it? Cheers
