Does google like Category pages or pages with lots of Products on them?
-
We are having an issue with getting Google to rank the page we want. To have this page http://www.jakewilson.com/c/52/-/346/Cruiser-Motorcycle-Tires rank for the key word Cruiser Motorcycle Tires; however, this page http://www.jakewilson.com/t/52/-/343/752/Cruiser-Motorcycle-Tires is ranking instead and it has less links and page authority according to site explorer and it is farther down in the hierarchy. I am wondering if google just likes pages that have actual products on them instead of a page leading to the page with all the products.

We are currently having meetings about the bigger issues, but I need examples like this (individual pages) to explain the reasoning why we need to make changes. This is a very big site and it will take some time to get the needed changes done. Also they asked me directly about these pages. I just enjoy getting other peoples feed back, so thank you.

Well, you really are the only person who can answer what you think it best for your customer and then your site. You can see where revenue comes from, what products your customers want, etc. I know that, for example, I can get better conversions on better pages than others, so I want the ones that have the best conversion opportunity to rank better than the other ones.
If there's a difference between what pages you want to rank for several big keywords vs what Google has ranking, then that's usually caused by the site not being SEO'd properly to give Google the indicators for what pages you'd like to rank for which terms.
As the SEO director, it may be best worth your while to do a site audit and figure out how to address the bigger issues vs individual key pages?

I just started here a month ago and was not here when they put the website together so I am trying to figure out if we should just go with what google wants or try and help them pick the other one. Also they have done this with several big key words so I am trying to figure out what the best thing to do is. There are several pages with the All like the example.

Google likes the page it thinks is best to match the search query. Kind of an annoying answer, but that's how Google fancies its algo. That said, both of your pages have the same page title and the same H1. What I mean by that is you aren't necessarily telling that you want that second URL to rank for that specific term because you are also telling it you want your first URL to.
So, create some difference between the two pages to help indicate which page you want to rank for which content. When you don't differentiate, Google will make the choice for you and they rarely pick the page you'd prefer.

Page missing from Google index
Hi all, One of our most important pages seems to be missing from the Google index. A number of our collections pages (e.g., http://perfectlinens.com/collections/size-king) are thin, so we've included a canonical reference in all of them to the main collection page (http://perfectlinens.com/collections/all). However, I don't see the main collection page in any Google search result. When I search using "info:http://perfectlinens.com/collections/all", the page displayed is our homepage. Why is this happening? The main collection page has a rel=canonical reference to itself (auto-generated by Shopify so I can't control that). Thanks! WUKeBVB

Structured data and Google+ Local business page are conflicting
Hi, A few (almost 8 now) months ago we have added structured data to our website. which according to the testing tool should work. (Our url: https://www.rezdy.com) However when searching for our company name, our old local business page from Google+ shows up. I have reached out to google to tell them that we aren't a local business anymore and want the data from the page to be removed. But this all takes painfully long. I want my search result to be shown like the large businesses (examples: Adroll, Hubspot), including logo, twitter feed etc. etc. Will this all work, if so, is there a way to speed up the process, any suggestions?

How can I get Google to forget an https version of one page on my site?
Google mysteriously decided to index the broken, https version of one page on my company's site (we have a cert for the site, but this page is not designed to be served over https and the CSS doesn't load). The page already has many incoming links to the http version, and it has a canonical URL with http. I resubmitted it on http with webmaster tools. Is there anything else I could do?

301 by category rather than page?
Hi Guys It is possible (and best practice) to 301 a category as a whole rather than every page within the category. I was asked this by a developer the other day, and it was something I'd not considered before as I've always done it by page. It seems there's some wordpress plugins out there that do it. Thanks in advance.

Canonical - how can you tell if page is appearing duplicate in Google?
Our home page file is www.ides.com/default.asp and appears in Google as www.ides.com. Would it be a good thing for us to include the following tag in the head section of our website homepage?

How to optimize achor text links on ecommerce category page
A category page on an e-commerce sites, containing a list of the products within the category, usually shows the product image above the product text link. If both image and anchor text link to the product page, this would mean that the image is counted as the link in terms of ranking value. What would be the best way to make the anchor text count in stead of the image? I guess some ways would be: 1. Not making the product image a link

2. Using some kind of link masking / redirecting technique for the image
3. Employing a technical trick to make the anchor text link come first in the code readable by search engines. What would be the easiest way to solve this issue? Or do you believe it's not worth bothering?0
