International Version of Website
-
Our website is AluminumEyewear.com and we're considering launching a specific version for Australia, naturally I want to avoid any dupe content issues but the content would largely remain the same.
I have read through this post and wondered if the options given here are still relevant?
I'm currently leaning towards using a sub-domain, i.e. au.aluminumeyewear.com or should I go for aluminumeyewear.com.au? Will there be dupe content issues if I do that?
Confused and hoping for help!

thanks for your help - much appreciated.

The markup should be on both versions. What it does is when Google is going to return a page in search results, it'll know to switch out to alternate versions of pages based on the users location or language.
If you're not going to use the .com.au as a standalone domain, you can 301 it. It might make for good display URLs for advertising?

Does the markup need to be on both versions or just the international one?
Is it still worth 301'ing to the com.au to the subdomain?
-
You can't add it to the body of the page. Otherwise, people could add these tags to blog comments and product reviews! It has to be in the . Since you don't have access to the , you can try adding the markup to your sitemap? That's another option.

thanks for the reply!
Just so happens I can't add the required markup to elements because of restrictions on our ecomm platform. I can certainly add it to the page though, just not where it should be.
Will this be a problem?

There will indeed be duplicate content with both solutions, but it's ok. That guide is a bit outdated; one thing that's come about since then is the rel=alternate markup which is for this exact situation. Read more about that here. You'll put markup on your pages that tells Google what the alternate pages are, so Google can return the appropriate pages based on language and region.
EIther way, you'll also set your geographic target for the AU content in Google Webmaster Tools. You can also set your language and regions in Bing on your pages, either with meta tags or in your HTTP headers (Bing instructions). That's more for if you decide to go with the subdomain solution, as Bingbot will know who your site is for with a .com.au TLD.
If you go with the .com.au site, it'll be starting from scratch and won't inherit any of the domain authority from your .com site. However, Aussies would likely be more receptive to a .com.au site?

Should I have multiple websites for my different brands or one main website with different tabs/areas?
My client creates apps. As well as the apps they create themselves, they have made some of their own that cover various different topics. Currently they have individual websites for each of these apps, and a website for their app making business. They are asking whether they should just have one website - their app building site, which also includes information about the two apps they've built themselves. My feeling is it's better to keep them separate. The app building site is trying to appeal to a B2B audience and gain business to build new apps. AppA is trying to help carehomes and carers to streamline their business, and AppB is trying to help workplace and employee welfare. Combining them all will mean lots of mixed messaging/keywords even if we have dedicated areas on the site. I also think it will limit how much content we can create on each without being completely overwhelming for the user. If we keep them all separate then we can have a very clear user journey. I would of course recommend having blog posts or some sort of landing page to link to AppA and AppB's websites. Thoughts? Thank you!

301 a website to mine within a subfolder
Hey there Mozzers, I have purchased a very amazing Social Media Related Plugin. I already have a business website about digital marketing which pretty much falls in the same category. I am thinking of transferring that plugin into a subfolder of my own website. Is there anything I should keep in mind when I do that?

Mobile website on a different URL address?
My client has an old eCommerce website that is ranking high in Google. The website is not responsive for mobile devices. The client wants to create a responsive design mobile version of the website and put it on a different URL address. There would be a link on the current page pointing to the external mobile website. Is this approach ok or not? The reason why the client does not want to change the design of the current website is because he does not have the budget to do so and there are a lot of pages that would need to be moved to the new design. Any advice would be appreciated.

Moving half my website to a new website: 301?
Good Morning! We currently have two websites which are driving all of our traffic. Our end goal is to combine the two and fold them into each other. Can I redirect the duplicate content from one domain to our main domain even though the URL's are different. Ill give an example below. (The domains are not the real domains). The CEO does not want to remove the other website entirely yet, but is willing to begin some sort of consolidation process. ABCaddiction.com is the main domain which covers everything from drug addiction to dual diagnosis treatment. ABCdualdiagnosis.com is our secondary website which covers everything as well. Can I redirect the entire drug addiction half of the website to ABCaddiction.com? With the eventual goal of moving everything together.

Looking for guidance on transferring and incorporating content from a purchased website into an existing website
One of my client’s recently purchased a competitor’s website, and we would like to transfer the content from the competitor’s website (http://www.wilson-hardness.com) to our client’s existing website (http://www.buehler.com); at the same time we want to minimize loss in keyword rankings the competitor’s website has established. The two websites work in similar fields: one measures and offers products in scientific measurement and analysis of various materials. The other website offers products that are in similar field: hardness testing equipment. Looking for suggestions on how to proceed or recommended reading on the topic. I’ve tried to do research, but haven’t found anything, so I’m not sure what to topic-names to search. Any guidance would be appreciated.
