Duplicate titles- what quailfies??

What qulifies as a duplicate title?
If I have one tile
Kelowna Real estate Smith McLellan Group
and another title
Kelowna Condos Smith Mclellan Group
Is that a dupilcate title??
-
the pipe or hyphen practice is just for aesthetic purposes and does not have an SEO value associated with it. You are ok to use the brand name in multiple titles along with unique keywords associated with them. Should not have any downside to it. Here's a link to a post discussing this practice.

How does the pipe or hyphen help? With the pipe it looks (to me) like the Smith Mclellan group it Duplicated????
-
I have just checked this in actual fact the difference in the title is just a letter : edpm e seal & edpm p seal so just one letter although two different products & are reported as duplicate titles, so you could be correct as to just one word not being counted as a duplicate.
-
Really...
I have never seen this in Webmaster Tools, even with very similar Title tags.
-
Webmaster tools would report this as a duplicate title as I have a similar issue with 2 titles where only one word is changed in the phrase.
-
No that's not a duplicate title.
Duplicate <title>tags are exact copies which appear on multiple pages on your website.</p> <p>Each page should have a unique Page Title which effectively describes the content of the page... Titles should be no longer than 70 - 85 Characters in length.</p> <p>One area where duplicate title tags are common is with dynamic content, eCommerce sites which use product filtering for example might cause duplicate content (not just the title tag).</p> <p>There is a danger that any dynamic URL will produce duplicate content, if two versions get indexed by the search engines... eg:</p> <p>www.somewebsite.co.uk/index.php?cPath=89&zenid=rbkma1v62ra64qrpfhc3lsm774<br /><br />&<br /><br />www.somewebsite.co.uk/index.php</p> <p>Also be aware that if the www. redirect isn't in place on a website it may also produce duplicate content and title tags.</p> <p>www.somesite.co.uk/page.html</p> <p>&</p> <p>somesite.co.uk/page.html</p></title>

Hi,
In my opinion this is not a duplicate title. From the above example it seems like you are trying to optimize the pages for 2 different keywords ( Kelowna Real Estate and Kelowna Condos)
From an aesthetic perspective you might want to consider adding hyphens or pipes between the keywords and your brand. ( e.g Kelowna Real estate | Smith McLellan Group )
You may also want to consider putting your brand name first in the title tag if it has branding and is popular with your target audience to impact the click thru rates in the search engine results.

Updated Title Tag preference
Hi, This was a topic a couple years ago https://moz.com/community/q/title-tag-use-comma-pipe-or-colon I was wondering if there was any update on this as the consensus on this thread seemed to say using a pipe as a separator is best, but in Moz's title tag recommendations it has hyphen and pipe Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name Does anyone know if using a pipe | between the primary keyword and secondary has adverse effects? Also, does removing the brand name for the sake of length hurt you in any way? Thanks for the help!

Duplicate Content Issues - Where to start???
Dear All I have recently joined a new company Just Go Holidays - www.justgoholidays.com I have used the SEO Moz tools (yesterday) to review the site and see that I have lots of duplicate content/pages and also lots of duplicate titles all of which I am looking to deal with. Lots of the duplicate pages appear to be surrounding, additional parameters that are used on our site to refine and or track various marketing campaigns. I have therefore been into Google Webmaster Tools and defined each of these parameters. I have also built a new XML sitemap and submitted that too. It looks as is we have two versions of the site, one being at www.justgoholidays.com and the other without the www It appears that there are no redirects from the latter to the former, do I need to use 301's here or is it ok to use canonicalisation instead? Any thoughts on an action plan to try to address these issues in the right order and the right way would be very gratefully received as I am feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. (we also use a CMS system that is not particularly friendly and I think I will have to go directly to the developers to make lots of the required changes which is sure to cost - therefore really don't want to get this wrong) All the best Matt

Problem of possible duplicate title tag and description. Help me!
Hi everybody, I'm optimizing this huge website that has a lot of identical categories for differente locations. I'm trying to find a smart way to write title and description for these categories, changing the location as a variable on the title and description phrase. Here some examples: Title: Attractions in [CITY]. Sightseeings, monuments and museums in [CITY]. Description: Find travel ideas and suggestions for [CITY]. On [NAME OF THE WEBSITE] you can find a lot of attractions, monuments and sightseeing off the beaten path in [CITY]. Changing only the name of the CITY on these Titles and Descriptions, am I running the risk of duplicate title and description? Thanks in advance for your help!

Duplicate content
Greetings! I have inherited a problem that I am not sure how to fix. The website I am working on had a 302 redirect from its original home url (with all the link juice) to a newly designed page (with no real link juice). When the 302 redirect was removed, a duplicate content problem remained, since the new page had already been indexed by google. What is the best way to handle duplicate content? Thanks!
