On-Page Report Card refresh problem
-
I have noticed that on the On-Page Report Card, refresh does not work at all. Namely, when I make a change after receiving a suggestion, it does not change at all. I remember that option worked almost instantly before which helped me make an optimized page quickly. Also, I have seen that meta tags are not desirable and when I want to remove them, I have quotation marks left instead of meta keywords and an error reported. These are the most important issues for now, especially the refreshing issue since I tried deleting data from cash memory and all the other available options such as changing the browser etc. I have also tried deleting key words and repeating the grading on on-page report card but had no results. Exiting SEOmoz and re-entering also gave no results. Kasa

Hi Megan,
I have sent an email to Chiaryn with print screen example to help you solve the problem as soon as possible. I would appreciate you urgent help since I have started a new project and need this tool.
Sincerely,
Kasa

Hey Kasa!
Thanks for getting back to me! I just talked to Chiaryn (who answered your support ticket) and we actually found out that the on-page report card campaign tool not updating on demand, as you mentioned, isn't the intended behavior. It should be updating when you click on 'grade my on-page optimization'. We want to fix this, but we haven't heard back from any users when we've made the request for examples of changes they've made that aren't getting reflected in the report, so it makes it difficult to forward on to our engineers. If you could follow up with Chiaryn with examples, we would be oh so grateful!
Thanks again!

Hi, Megan! Thank you very much for the quick response. However, I have already received the information from help team that the system has been changed to only allow the in-campaign On-Page reports to update once a week automatically. I can see the check up immediately on http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization/new
Looking forward to a reply about meta tags from your team, since I still have quotation marks left instead of meta keywords and an error reported.
Regards
Kasa

Hi Nenad! This is Megan from SEOmoz. I'm so sorry about the on-page report card problems! This sounds like it's a bug. Would you be able to send a message to our help team at help@seomoz.org with the following information so we can forward it on to our engineers and get this fixed?
-an example on-page report where you've made changes, but you aren't seeing them reflected (please include campaign name that these example reports are under)
-what specific changes you've made that should be reflected
In the meantime, you should be able to see an updated version of the report by using the stand alone tool: http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization/new
If you could also include information about the meta tags problem you're seeing, we'd be happy to look in to that too.
Sorry again!

Category Page Content
Hey Mozzers, I've recently been doing a content audit on the category and sub-category pages on our site. The old pages had the following "profile" Above The Fold
On-Page Optimization | | ATP
Page Heading
Image Links to Categories / Products
Below the Fold
The rest of the Image Links to Categories / Products
600 words+ of content duplicated from articles, sub categories and products My criticisms of the page were
1. No content (text) above the fold
2. Page content was mostly duplicated content
3. No keyword structure, many pages competed for the same keywords and often unwanted pages outranked the desired page for the keyword. I cleaned this up to the following structure Above The Fold
H1 Page Heading 80-200 Word of Content (Including a link to supporting article)
H2 Page Heading (Expansion or variance of the H1 making sure relevant) 80-200 150 Words of Content
Image Links to Categories / Products
Below the Fold
The rest of the Image Links to Categories / Products The new pages are now all unique content, targeted towards 1-2 themed keywords. I have a few worries I was hoping you could address. 1. The new pages are only 180-300 words of text, simply because that is all that is needed to describe that category and provide some supporting information. the pages previously contained 600 words. Should I be looking to get more content on these pages?
2. If i do need more content, It wont fit "above the fold" without pushing the products and sub categories below the fold, which isn't ideal. Should I be putting it there anyway or should I insert additional text below the products and below the fold or would this just be a waste.
3. Keyword Structure. I have designed each page to target a selction of keywords, for example.
a) The main widget pages targets all general "widget" terms and provides supporting infromation
b) The sub-category blue widget page targets anything related and terms such as "Navy Widgets" because navy widgets are a type of blue widget etc"
Is this keyword structure over-optimised or exactly what I should be doing. I dont want to spread content to thin by being over selective in my categories Any other critisms or comment welcome0 -

Why is my contact us page ranking higher than my home page?
Hello, It doesn't matter what keyword I put into Google (when I'm not signed in and have cleaned down my browsing history) the contact us page ranks higher than the home page. I'm not sure why this is, the home page has a higher page authority, more links and more social media shares, the website is an established one. When I have checked Google Analytics my home page gets more people landing on it than the contact us page. It looks like people are ignoring the contact us page and scrolling down until they find the home page. I'd appreciate any help or advice you might have. Thank you.

SeoMoz On-Page Rating
Hello everyone! I am just checking the on-page optimization for the website I look after and I am getting some ratings related to the keywords I target for those pages. How should I consider the numeric score I get? (10 on average) Also what is a good score for those pages? Cheers Oscar

Pages vs Posts
What are your thoughts on pages vs posts? I am setting up a new blog for a client but not sure how to structure the content. I may just do posts or a whole bunch of page listed down the sidebar. It seems like my pages always rank better than my posts. Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be because of the dates tied posts?

Should I autogenerate 25k pages?
My main product is database conversion software. As we support tons of databases, it's pretty easy to generate thousands of pages simply by creating a template and changing source/target database name, some information on how to connect etc. Of course, getting links to that many autogenerated pages is close to impossible. So, not wanting to endanger my main site (http://www.spectralcore.com) I created a separate site (minisite) for this product alone (http://www.fullconvert.com). In two months this new site is live, it got to the point of having over 1k visitors per month. That's for a site with no inbound links or history. Now, my question is - should I create equivalent thing on my main site, with different template to avoid duplicate content - and leverage history and authority - or Google can get me penalized for this practice. I don't think 25k generated pages are a bad thing, they simply provide for tons of highly targeted landing pages. Am I wrong?

What is the Best Landing Page setup?
I have seen a few different types of landing pages. I am trying to figure out which style works best from a SEO perspective. 1. The cram everything possible onto the page approach ala nyt.com? 2. The fill your home page with a ton of links approach like cnn.com? 3. The put just a small sample of your content approach like seomoz? I see 4 blog snippets, a "Go To My Campaign" call to action and that's it. 4. Pages like Groupon.com which have 100% focus on a call to action. I also notice many focused pages like Groupon remove the header and footer on their landing page. Does that help the page retain it's PR better?
