Temperary redirects

I have a problem with temp redirects, I have a dating site and the redirects happen when guests on the site are prompted to purchase a subscription while trying gain access to the sites contents. I was told to change them to 301 redirects but don't know how. any help, thanks guys.

301's are done in the htaccess file of your server/where your website files are located.

It would depend on exactly how you're doing this, but to me this doesn't sound like a situation for a permanent redirects. Permanent redirects will be cached by browsers, meaning if someone goes to a profile page, gets the message, logs in, and goes back to that profile page URL, they may still get redirected to the log in page. I'd be very careful with this.
This sounds like an ideal situation for temporary 302 redirects. Having 301s pass whatever link juice these profile pages have to a log in page doesn't sound very substantial to me. You're probably not trying to get the log in page to rank in Google, and I doubt these profile pages that can only be accessed when a user is logged in are getting a ton of links?

It's a bit difficult to provide an exact answer since I don't know how your site is configured, what kind of server you are on or what your goals are, but I will try answer your question about how to change temporary redirects to 301 permanent redirects.
If you have a Linux/Apache/PHP server, you can configure sitewide redirects within the .htaccess file. Here is a useful tool for creating .htaccess 301 redirects - http://www.htaccessredirect.net/
If you want to handle the redirects on a page by page basis, you can also do so using PHP.
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" ); Header( "Location: http://www.new-url.com" ); ?>

Also, for SEO, it is critical to the search engines that 301 permanent redirects are used instead of 302 temporary redirects in most cases. You can use this tool to test if your redirects are working correctly - http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/

Acquired Old, Bad Content Site That Ranks Great. Redirect to Content on My Site?
Hello. my company acquired another website. This website is very old, the content within is decent at best, but still manages to rank very well for valuable phrases. Currently, we're leaving the entire site active on its own for its brand, but i'd like to at least redirect some of the content back to our main website. I can't justify spending the time to create improved content on that site and not our main site though. What would be the best practice here? 1. Cross-domain canonical - and build the new content on our main website? 2. 301 Redirect Old Article to New Location containing better article 3. Leave the content where it is - you won't be able to transfer the ranking across domain. Thanks for your input.

Redirecting pages (old site to new site)
I have a question- there is one location, one set of pages for both the old and new site on the same host environment so when I did the redirect it get into a loop trying to redirect from itself to itself Not sure how its gonna affect SEO. Will pages get hit for duplicate content?

Www to non www redirect
HI there, I was worried that my folder was not being crawled as when I searched for site:www.thekeepsakeco.co.uk/marketplace nothing came up but today I tried site:thekeepsakeco.co.uk/marketplace it does. So it is forwarding the www to the non www. When I do a search on links or analyse the domain it says there is a forwarder in place. My site used to dominate in my niche and now is not doing very well since I moved to the new site. I know I did not handle the move well but wonder what I can do about it and wonder if this redirect is causing issues. So any link building it probably going to www. rather than non www so does that mean they are not counting. Should we consider redirecting a high ranking subdomain page to our homepage?
My site bluecotton.com sells custom printed t-shirts. Our DA is 46. Our homepage is PA 55. The design studio is where users create their designs. Over the years the design studio has received a lot of fan fair including links from gizmodo and adobe. When I rank against our biggest competitors customink, ooshirts, uberprints.com I find that our domain as a whole doesn't look all that great. However, when I look at the history of our subdomain I see that we are more trusted and credible than all of our competitors. We have 10k links pointing to the design studio. Here is my question. What if I did 301 redirect of bluecotton.com/studio.html to bluecotton.com? Then I created a new url for the DS. This would not cause users any problems. In fact for many they would get more context around what we are trying to do and what we offer. Is this crazy? I never find results in google for the design studio. It always shows our home. That is pretty much what happens to all of our competitors on the higher traffic terms that are driving real sales. So why do i ask? If my subdomain is more valuable becuase of the design studio links then I wonder if I redirected it to the homepage if it would supercharge my homepage and propel is forward in the serps. Thoughts?

Redirecting URLS on windows
Could anyone help out here please. A client of ours have reveloped their website from HTML to ASP (helpful!). They have 60 odd pages indexed in Google with the .html extension. We need to do a redirect on these pages so that all link juice is passed to the new pages. What would be the best way to do this please?
