Does the word next to domain gives more relevancy to the page of it's URL?
-
Whether putting a (category or brand) word next to domain is better than on the end of an URL? (i.e. domain.com/sony/tvs or domain.com/tv/sony) Which one would get higher result on SERP "tv" or "sony" in both cases? Or maybe they both serves the same?
-
This depends on your target requirements. If you want to target Sony followed by generic terms then you go with domain.com/sony/abc-product or if you want to target generic terms then you go with domain.com/abc-product/sony
Keeping the targeted term close to the root domain will have slightly better chances to rank compared to being away from the root in some sub-directory. And again other factors like the link profile of that page also matters a lot. So you try to earn more quality links to which ever page you want to rank for.
So you first decide upon your targeting strategy that may depend on search volumes of the search terms and the commercial intent behind these terms etc.

But the product can be searched and without the brand sony like domain.com/dvd-player.
So what would be the best?
or
-
Oh, Ok got that. In this case you can go ahead and have domain.com/sony/tv
if you are targeting Sony TVs and domain.com/sony/dvd-player/ ideally to target Sony DVD players.

I know that it's a very competitive niche. I'm just making an example because the page that I have are far more longer.
I'm aiming for the Sony products like domain.com/sony/tv/star-t-020-hd-dvb-t and in my country it's not so hard because I'm not using English language. -
Hello friend,
If you are serious about ranking for the brand 'Sony' then you should be at least for the first one year or two targeting the very long tail versions of the brand. Even after one or two years I will not be able to rank for a short branded term like 'sony tv' in the top 10 results looking at such a big brand and lot of top online stores competing. Even if someone work their whole life optimizing a page for a generic branded term, it is not possible to be able to out rank the brand's website for the term. Example would be, I cannot take away Microsoft's rank in SERPs for the term 'windows' no matter how hard or how long I try optimizing a page for it.
Coming to your question, if your page consists only Sony TVs and your targeted term is 'sony tv', it would make sense to name your URL, domain.com/sony-tv
Ranking in the top 10 or even top 5 in SERPs for long tail branded terms is possible even today with exceptionally well written content with all the SEO elements in place. For example, you can try to rank for a term like this: 'samsung smart led tv d7000'

Coming to the rankability of a page, it depends on lot of parameters with the quality of content being at the top.
Well there isn't much of the content when you look at the internet shop: the whole template is static except for the middle part where only (by default) 18 products are seen.
Of course having a page as close as possible to the domain's root is good when it comes to crawlability factor but this cannot be a substitute to the quality of the content that the page has on it. Hope this helps.
And what if i would name my brand pages like: domain.com/sony-tv
then it won't make a new category and the page would have only sony TV's.In any case I would like to know if domain.com/sony-tv or domain.com/tv-sony would be more convenient when I want to rank higher for the brand sony.

Hi,
If I were you, I would have thought about the user experience and the better logical site structure rather than thinking about my rank in SERPs. Its always good to go by a URL structure that is logical, simple, easy to comprehend. So having the product category (in this case tv) next to domain name followed by the brand is more logical URL structure. Coming to the rankability of a page, it depends on lot of parameters with the quality of content being at the top. Of course having a page as close as possible to the domain's root is good when it comes to crawlability factor but this cannot be a substitute to the quality of the content that the page has on it. Hope this helps.

Devanur Rafi.

Individual statistics (not aggregated) for 'local pack' and 'organic search results' when both on the same page
Hi, For a particular keyword combination we show up on the local pack but also on the organic search results on the 1st page. I have never been able to find out what the CTR, #clicks, conversions for this two different kinds of positions are individually. The aggregate figures I can find out in Google Search Console / Analytics, but I would like to know on an individual level as I am testing out different things. With the statistics on Google My Business I can't get along actually...no CTR as far as i know. Any hint? Cheers, Cesare

Multiple Thank You pages with one Contact form - PPC
Hi everyone,
Conversion Rate Optimization | | Carla_Dawson
I am running a PPC (Google Adwords Campaign) and it is pretty big. I have about 25 landing pages each with a Contact Form. I need the contact form to go to a unique thank you page for each landing page to measure conversions via Google Adwords. In other words I need the contact form on submission to redirect to a specific and unique thank you page that I can define. The contact form needs to be the same for all landing pages to avoid having to produce 25 landing pages. I am ok with producing 25 Example
http://www.maindomain.com/landing-page-1 redirects tohttp://www.maindomain.com/thank-you-1 http://www.maindomain.com/landing-page-2 redirects tohttp://www.maindomain.com/thank-you-2 http://www.maindomain.com/landing-page-3 redirects tohttp://www.maindomain.com/thank-you-3 Can someone help me with this?
Thanks https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/0 -

Is this possible? If it is, can someone show me a How To because I tried it anddidn't work? Thanks mozzers!

Is checkout page setup (in regards to abandonment) this sensitive?!?!
About a week ago, I added a google checkout button (which wasn't really positioned well) & option to add a note on my checkout page for my site. Over the next three days, my cart abandonment was 100%!!!!! 16 customers got to checkout, but all of them dropped out... I was starting to freak out and finally took the google button & note option down. Since then, I'm back up to about 50% abandonment. Is the ecosystem of a checkout page really this sensitive? If so, holy S#$%! Just wondering if anyone has any general advice or links for me to study up on checkout abandonment. Maybe we can get a Whiteboard Friday discussing this?

Can using the Google Keywords tool and/or SEOmoz cause problems for my company's IP address?
I just started with a company a few weeks back, working on-site doing SEO work. I've been using SEOmoz as well as Google Adwords' Keywords tool. I just got a message from one of our reps saying that people at the office (and this is a huge office) have reported tons of CAPTCHAs being thrown up frequently. I told them I had been running searches with Google Keywords tool and SEOmoz, but would that really cause that much of a problem? Is there anything I can do in order to fix this, some keyword finders that won't get me in trouble, etc.?

Can trackingcodes in your url be seen as duplicate content or break other rules?
I recently gave ReachLocal control to manage my Adwords campagne. I didnt want "Reverse Proxy" on so I decided to go with the Remote Conversion Tracking. So they track my website in every stap of the way. Therefor I had to place a Javascript on each page. But what worries me are these kind of URL's I see appearing in my Analytics account: /webpaginaname.html?scid+29903&cid=12343&tc+13012316371028544&rl_key=32850e0a2d4499e02a711d0b969044d2&kw+8307565&pub_cr_id=16701148613&dynamic_proxy=1&primary_serv=www.website.com&rl_track_landing_pages=1 Could this be seen as duplicate content by Google? Or could it break any other rule you know of? Should I be worried? Thanks a lot!

Any SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages?
Hello! I listened to Adam Audette at Linklove in Boston this month and he spoke a little on creatively linking product pages back to their respective category pages - as it had an effect on the SEO... However, I don't know much about "internal" linking... Any other SEO tips for optimizing / driving traffic to category pages? Thanks!
