article directories aren't as effective since the major panda update a while ago.

social bookmarking has its place, just like anything else. Do not bookmark from hundreds or thousands of low quality, PR 0 social bookmarking sites. It;s unnatural and Google will know what you are doing. Instead focus on fewer, high quality social bookmarks. Major social bookmarking sites help you get crawled and indexed faster, as long as you do it naturally

well i don't like it too much i prefer article directory to get much traffic.

Directories and Bookmarking

Our company has a wide range of linking strategies. Currently, our SEO team members are linking to directories more than anything else. Are there any advantage to this or should they put there effort elsewhere? My views on directories: these links are easy to acquire and offer little push to our SEO efforts. It appears that Google is no longer taking directories in consideration and essentially they could be hurting our rankings. What should our company do; should we stop linking to directories all together or keep it to a minimum. Also isn't bookmarking on the same lines as directories? What is the best way to handle this?

Would anyone reccomend hiring an outside company for social bookmarking?

I hired http://www.manualsocialbookmarking.com/ to take care of social bookmarking for one of my clients. I am finally starting to see the links created from this with my keyword as the anchor text in SEO Moz. I know that they are not "great" links, but my keyword is doing very well (fluctuating between #1 and #2 on Google). I don't feel like hiring this company hurt my SEO, but I am scared to do i for any of my other clients (especially because of the penguin update). Does anyone have any thoughts? Is it work the risk to hire them again and get some links for my other clients?

I am working on patio umbrellas keyword to achieve top 3 ranking in Google. I have achieved top 30 ranking with help of on page optimization and want to achieve top 3 ranking with help of link building. Today, I was checking SEO web directories on SEOmoz. Now, I can't make any changes on live website exclude content. So, I have only one option to deal with link building.
