SEOmoz Keyword Ranking - Does it work for local search?
-
I was just wondering how SEOmoz calculates keyword rankings up and down every week.
Shouldn't there be a way to have SEOmoz calculate rankings on a Local and Non-Local Basis?
For example I have "Local Dentist" as a keyword in SEOmo for my dental client. SEOmoz shows that we are not in the Top 50.
| Local dentist | Not in Top 50 | | Not in Top 50 | | Not in Top 5 |
If I change my location in Google browser to the zip of where the office is located, we
show up in position 14(for the home page) & 15 (for an inside page)How can I show the keyword rankings to my client if the keyword ranking report doesn't reflect searches done in my clients local area?

Hey Bob,
bjomer13 pretty much nailed it but let me provide some more clarification.
We do need a "Geo Identifier" or specific location in order to provide local results. This is because we are unable to determine where a user will be submitting there search from. For example, I'm in Seattle and if I search for the keyword "pizza" and someone in New York performs that very same search we will both get very different Google Places results. This is because Google is capable of determining the general location that the person is searching from based on their IP address. If we were both perform a search for "Seattle Pizza" though we would get pretty much the same Google Places results for pizza places in the Seattle area. These results will be quite similar to the results I would get if I just searched for "pizza" because Google knows that I am in Seattle.
For rankings you will be provided with a number that the keyword ranks for if it is in the top 50 organic search results and you will have an icon if universal (Google Places) results appear in the SERP for that keyword. If your site is in the local results then you will have tick marks on top of the universal results icon indicating you are indeed in those results.

Hope that helps!

If you use keywords with a Geo identifier (for example: "San Diego Local Dentist") you'll see a little map icon (like the google places map pin) for all your local maps SERPs. Currently from what I've seen, there's no way for the Keyword Ranking Tool to know if you're a local brick and mortar business without some sort of geo identifier in your keyword. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Unsolved Keyword Rank History chart has missing data for periods of time
Hello, When I look at the rank history for a particular keyword, there are missing gaps in the data. For example, the keyword was fluctuating around rank 10-20 from Jan 2022 to July 2022. Then suddenly the line on the graph disappears. It starts tracking again in Oct 2022 starting at rank 16. It almost appears as if Moz lost track of the keyword for some time. Other tracked keywords did not experience the same issue during this time. Then as a result, Moz reporting will say the tracked keyword moved up in ranking 40+. What is happening here? I'm unsure how to explain this activity to my clients.

SEOMoz Ranking section only showing my Homepage
My competition has a few pages showing for each term, but only my homepage shows for those terms. My SEO shouldn't be so bad that no inner pages show. What's happening? Do I have something set up incorrectly?

Keyword Difficulty Tool Ranking
I'm using the keyword difficultly tool to help me create a a list of 5 keywords (out of approx 50-60) to optimise pages for on a site. However I don't want to just choose the top 5 if 3 of them are too competitive and not worth targeting. From anyone's experience, for a small, new web company who has no pages optimised at this point, do you think there is a keyword difficulty score that I should create a hard limit on? So for instance, with a group of keywords, to only target keywords that have a difficulty score of 60 or below because anything higher would be too difficult to optimise the pages for in this stage of the sites development. Thanks in advance for your help Michelle 🙂

How reliable is SEOMOZ data?
I have been using the Mozbar data to locate Auth websites, basically the higher the DA/PA the better it is. If I then check the site out and they have good load times, lots of social sharing etc this makes it extra special and now a good site to try and get a link on. I found 3 blogs to guest post on which all have DA/PA 80+ some of the blogs have a PR7. Now this is great but what scares me is have I just wasted 3 guest posts because the data is incorrect. These blogs are run by 1 person and the kind of work involved to achieve those stats would be very heavy. Maybe this blogger has just hit the nail on the head with SEO and link building. Input anyone?

SEOMoz Toolbar in Chrome
The SEOMoz toolbar is displayed very differently in Chrome as compared with Firefox. It 'overlaps' the page, showing on top of the content instead of offsetting the page/window. In other words, the footer or the header of the page (depending on what toolbar location is chosen in the Settings) is eclipsed by the Toolbar. This was not an issue in Firefox. Has anyone experienced the same problem with the toolbar? How can I make the toolbar integrate into the browser window itself rather that popping up on top of the rendered webpage? Thanks.
