"not selected" is gone from Google Webmaster Tools Index Status Advanced
-
Just noticed today that the "not selected" has been removed from the Index status, Advanced section of Google Webmaster Tools. Anyone know why.
I've used this metric to determine how or why Google was not selecting pages, particularly to gauge canonical's, 301's and duplicate content.
It will be missed if gone for good.

It's kind of a cat and mouse game with Google. They are trying to be more transparent, but at the same time keeping a lot of information close to the vest. They don't want us to figure out their secret sauce.

This is terrible. Not Selected is very useful info. I was hoping the would expand on it to let you see which URLs were "not selected"

Yes, I reviewed the thread over on Google product forums. Not much of a discussion on it yet. If the "not selected" metrics were accurate, it did give us some additional information. I'm all for more information from Google, not less. Taking this away may be another step for keeping us guessing.

There's a conversation about this over at Google's product forums. After someone else brought up the topic, a "top contributor" replied, "Yes it has been removed, whilst it was useful for some, it caused confusion to the majority of WMT users." Not sure how authoritative that top user is on the subject, but that doesn't sound good. We were just starting to use that option in GWT more.

How to Diagnose "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed" in Google Search Console
The new Google Search Console gives a ton of information about which pages were excluded and why, but one that I'm struggling with is "crawled - currently not indexed". I have some clients that have fallen into this pit and I've identified one reason why it's occurring on some of them - they have multiple websites covering the same information (local businesses) - but others I'm completely flummoxed. Does anyone have any experience figuring this one out?

What's the new "Value" column in GWT about?
I was checking out our GWT this morning and noticed a new column on the far right that was labeled "Value". Currently, there isn't anything of value (no pun intended) listed just $Nan. Anyone else see this or know what it might be? 014pThY

Link Research Tools
Is anyone else here a user of Link Research Tools? I recently completed a Link Detox for my sites. However, it is saying that links from high quality press release sites are deadly and should be removed. They are also saying the same about the links from the Yellow Pages. Obviously I know these tools are automated, but does anyone know why they are showing these links as 'deadly' and should be removed? I have tried contacting LRT about this issue but am yet to receive a reply.

Google Tag Assistant for Chrome
I'm using the Google Tag Assistant for Chrome, and I noticed something really weird. No matter what pages I look at, the same two GA tags show up. It's weird. You can see the tag that is "working", and then there are two repeats. For example, when I look at this page, I see the GA tag that is working and then all the remarketing tags. Then I see UA-36732895-1 repeated twice. Anyone have any idea what this is? Thanks!

Google Analytics and DNS change
Our new alumni application is going be tested at domain uva.imodules.com . We are going to collect traffic data with a Google analytics account number UA-884652-XX. So going to uva.imodules.com/myPage.html would send its data to Google Analytics with that account number. Then when it is ready for production we are going to just change the domain name of the application and switch the DNS over to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu . So going to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu /myPage.html would send its data to Google Analtics with that SAME account number. Aside from having the testing domain data in the same profile are there any other issues/problems we may run into?

301 redirect visible on Google.
Hello, This is a strange one for me. We have 301 redirected our .com domain to the .co.uk domain. The strange thing is that if you gogole the .com domain (theloanengine.com) there is a result with the website description. If you click on the result you are redirected tot he website homepage. One other thing: I've discovered this 301 issue because Google Analytics started to show me a few days ago referrals from the .com domain. I don't know if these things are connected. Cornel
