Google Index/Cashe questions
-
I have 15k+ pages. I have 4.5k pages indexed.
What relation is the google cashe to indexing pages? My site gets cashed every two days. The competition in my SERP goes 2-3weeks to get cashed. What does this indicate? Is your cashe date your last google crawl?
How can I get google to crawl my site? Is there a way I can get google to crawl my site starting from an internal page. This way I could set up a better linking structure that would benefit from doing activities that get that page indexed to help get my site indexed more thoroughly...

I guess I might try that. I was concerned 40-50 links on an internal page (very internal = No PR) would kill that page and any chance of the internal pages ranking.

Yes, you have a good take on it JML. I too would love to hear what others have to say about this.
Have you thought about putting a "View All" option (link) on your listings pages? This could make it possible for both users and Google bot to access all of the listings without having to deal with the latency inherent with paginated pages. (Googe's own research has shown that users prefer scrolling through lots of content instead of having to move from one page to another....just a thought).

So if I can get google to come to an interior page, how deep will it dig. Perhaps I need to figure out how many times can I call google per month, then have that many interior pages that have a significant number of links that lead to additional static pages (each link) that are linked out as well.
Like a pyramid. Google enters Interior Page (A). It's a static page (wordpress) that links 99 links that all link to 99 pages that link to 99 pages. Google would go about three in? I could get more indexed like this.
My page is linked well. It's dynamic content (real estate listings) that have hubs set up. There is a lot of pagination which is what I think google stops at. It enters subdivision "X" and there are 10 listings per page, paginated. There are 300 listings in that subdivision. I don't think google is going too far in to that subdivisions listings page. I need to understand google indexing better.
I invite more participants. Thank you Dana. I need more info all

Yes, you can get Google to crawl your site starting from an interior page using "Fetch as Googlebot" which is available as an item in the left hand navigation menu is Google Webmaster tools. After entering the URL of the page click on "Submit to Index" and then a box will open that gives the choice of submitting just that URL or submitting the URL plus all linking pages. Choose that second option. You can only do this a limited number of times a month so be judicious about which ones you submit this way.
As far as cache date, convention wisdom is that the more recent your cache date, the better. What this means is that Google is actually crawling your site more often. A cache date of 3 weeks or more happens when Google has come to your site or page many times but rarely finds any new content. WHen that's the case, google bot visits less frequently. Because Google values fresh content, it's better to have a newer cache date and to have google bot visiting more frequently.
I would be a little bit concerned that you have 15K pages and only 4.5K indexed. That ratio seems low to me. This might be an indication that google bot is having trouble crawling your entire site. Also, how new is your site? Is it a few months old or a few years old? Google bot crawls new sites more frequently, simply because they are new content. Over time, depending on how often your content is edited, updated or new content is posted, the crawl schedule will change.
I know this is only a partial answer to your question. But hopefully it provides a little insight.
Dana

Frustrated by Google Search Result
We have a page on our website for our review of the "Voltage" shisha flavor by "Social Smoke" (Social Smoke is the brand). Voltage is one of their hookah tobacco flavors. https://www.hookah.org/social-smoke-voltage-flavored-hookh-tobacco/. When I search for "Social Smoke Voltage Review", our page is at the bottom of the first page result. We have a video, decent content on the page, and a review function. We've implemented correct Schema code too: https://goo.gl/iwCP7E. When I use the page grade tool on Moz. Our page ranks B for that keyword but the results number 1 and 2 and 3 on Google all rank C or D. Our video and review schemas don't show up on Google search result either. We have a good community online. Our social media pages are popular. We share the blog posts on the social media accounts fairly regularly too. We have an old and established website. From what I understand we are following all of Google's standards and rules too. What does a website owner gotta do?

Page/Website Structure
Hello again Mozzers, We have a category, lets call it widgets. Within widgets are about a hundred or so products. For usability my predecessor made the following layout Widgets Main Cateogry - Links off homepage - (no content just links to the 3 sub-categories)
On-Page Optimization | | ATP
- Widgets by Resolution
---- About 20 subcategories
eg. 0.1 Resolution widgets
0.2 resolution widgets
- Widgets by Capacity
---- About 20 subcategories
eg. 1 capacity widgets
2 capacity widgets
- Widgets by Type
---- About 12 subcategories This was a major improvement from a userbility perspective as it made a very complex product range navigatable by the major features or basic type. However, as you can imaging we now have 60+ very similiar pages all displaying very similiar products a nightmare for SEO. It also isnt ideal for user navigation as it take too many clicks to get to the products. I propose the following fix, and i wanted your opinion. Widget Main Category - Link from homepage (Consolidated with Widgets by Type)
-300 Words of content
-Links to the 12 Sub-type Catoregies (These are pages i can fill with content + products. This would give me a more ordinary structure of which I can focus each page to a keyword) The tricky part comes with incorporating the capacity and resolution options. 1 Browse Capacity Page
(20 sub categories all the same except capacity quantity & products)
1 Browse by Resolution Page
(20 sub categories all the same except resolution value & products) The owner want them, I was going to link from the main widgets page to each of these to give the customer the option. What I can't decide is how to deal with them from an SEO point of view. Should they be no-followed? canonicaled? Can there be any advantage to having so many pages covering slightly different variations or as i suspect it is dangerous to the overall health of the site. To complicate things further, Canonical tags may not be an option due to an old magento version running that doesnt support them. Is there an alternative way around? As always many thanks.0 -
Google Website title not showing correctly
Hi Im not sure what triggered this - Page title is showing up as 'Isagenix Australia' while it should be <title>Buy Isagenix with 30 Day money back guarantee & Free Shipping in June</title> Previous title was 'Isagenix Australia - Read Isagenix reviews & buy isagenix products' but now it seems to have a mind of its own. Any suggestions would be helpful

Google Authorship for SEO Content Writers
I am interested to know the best way to go about about Google authorship on blog articles written for a client. For example is it a bad idea for an SEO content writer to publish articles under their own identity, what are the potential footprint downsides to this?

Internal Linking Question(s)
Is it unwise to link internally to a page more than once on the homepage. I am reading that it is considered spammy. I am also reading that it passes PR twice to the internal page instead of just once... Which is it? Is there a way to stop passing PR to the "contact us" page. I watched an older video that Matt Cutts suggested a nofollow. Now I read that this strategy is a no no? Which is it? Thanks! 🙂

Removing old URLs from Google
Hello, I am sure that this question has been asked many times, but I am still not sure what to do about the following: Our site's URL structure has changed a few times in the past few months. Recenty, we have changed our URLs to become more SEO friendly. However, Google has indexed the old URLs as well. To give an example: The following page in our website shows the following URLs in Google Webmaster Tools: Confúcio e Seus Ensinamentos
On-Page Optimization | | Tev/artigo/68_38/2/as_religioes_iv_confucio_e_seus_ensinamentos/
/aula/14_6132/vestibular/confucio_e_seus_ensinamentos/
/aula/1_14_6132/vestibular/confucio_e_seus_ensinamentos/
/aula/_14_6132/Vestibular/confucio_e_seus_ensinamentos/
/aula/ensino/confucio_e_seus_ensinamentos/ The correct URL is the last one. What should I do about the other ones? Almost all the pages in our website have this problem. We have redirected the old URLs to the new ones, but is there anything else we should do? We were asking Google to remove them, but Google has informed us that it has reached the limit. Please advise us on waht we should do. We have removed the old sitemap with the old URLs. What else must we do? Thank you very much.
