Creative Linking for Marginal Industries?
-
I work in a field similar to casinos, which obviously makes standard link building practices more difficult. Also, my company cannot operate in the US.
Any SEOMozzers who work in similar fields and have ideas for creative link building to successfully build a robost (and white hat) link profile for marginal industries?
Thanks!

Try this strategy. let's say you are trying to rank in the UK. Find some .co.uk sites where you can build links from. You may get better rankings in google.co.uk.
I wish I could help you more.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, but that doesn't really work for an online business with no local presence such as mine...

I have a client in Mexico. I am in the US. What I do is try to link to them from local business chapters like their local Chamber of Commerce. Also, I try local business listings. Getting links in a market where the web really has no strong presence (other than facebook and stuff like that) is tough, but the competition is low! Make a public facebook pages page and put your link on that.
There are many strategies on link building. In fact, you can find many here on SEOmoz. Start getting your customers to Like your page. Here, read this: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links

Paid Directory Links
To my surprise, I couldn't find a clear answer to the questions "Do paid directory links violate Google guidelines?" I know Matt Cutt's recently had a video on paid links, but it didn't really cover paid directory links. Are well-curated directory sites that charge for inclusion violate Google's guidelines? A good example would be the business.com directory.

Webmaster Tools Links
Am new to SEO so please be kind. I am working on link building (amongst other things) and notice that Google Webmaster Tools displays different links (and with different values) than Open Site Explorer. Some high value links which show up on Webmaster do not appear on OSE and vice versa. Which is the most accurate?

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link
Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Sarah K.](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=)

How much Link Building?
I'm wondering how much additional directory links to a site, on a monthly basis, would be too much, and potentially seen as too manufactured in Google's eyes. I am referring specifically to good quality, or relevant, directory links, nothing very spammy. I know there is no specific number, just wondering what the consensus is. Would a 10% monthly increase in linking root domains generally be considered too much? 5%? Thanks for your input!

Link value
Hi I have some links from blogs to our ecom website. My question is if anyone knows what happens if you have several different blogs on .blogspot linking in to you. Does that make them loose value because they are on the same domain? I can probably quite easily have 5-10 blogs on blogspot all with PA of 35-40 link in to us. Is it worth striving for or should i strive to get blogs that have their own domain to link into us instead ? Or equally important ? Dan Lærum
