Question about collapsible/Expandable
-
I will premise this question by saying I am not a developer, so please forgive my ignorance on this one.
Is there a way to achieve an expandable/collapsible
without relying on javascript?
Thanks all!

Hi Tim,
Most likely this isn't built-in to what we've got as we are on a very archaic, custom-coded site. Still, here's a URL just in case you might have any insights:
http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/cad-gxl2200
Let me know what you think (other than the site was coded when dinosaurs still roamed the earth)

Hi Dana, in case you are using a platform like Magento, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc. this functionality may all ready be built in to your theme without having to reinvent the wheel. Can you share a URL and I'll see if I can help you?

Thanks so much. This rings a bell now. I think I read this or something like it because something told me it was possible. I just don't code enough to keep up with some of these things! Thanks much!

Hi Dana,
Not that I'm aware of. The only way to respond to an action via the browser is using javascript in some way.

Here is what I have found, a solution using CSS3 - http://www.cssportal.com/css3-preview/showing-and-hiding-content-with-pure-css3.htm.
Not sure how well it works across all different browsers though.

Find all external 404 errors/links?
Hi All, We have recently discovered a site was linking to our site but it was linking to an incorrect url, resulting in a 404 error. We had only found this by pure chance and wondered if there was a tool out there that will tell us when a site is linking to an incorrect url on our site? Thanks 🙂

Disallow: /search/ in robots but soft 404s are still showing in GWT and Google search?
Hi guys, I've already added the following syntax in robots.txt to prevent search engines in crawling dynamic pages produce by my website's search feature: Disallow: /search/. But soft 404s are still showing in Google Webmaster Tools. Do I need to wait(it's been almost a week since I've added the following syntax in my robots.txt)? Thanks, JC

Long Domain Name - Subpage URL Question
I have a long domain name, so domainname/services/page title can get pretty lengthy. I have a services page, as a summary page since there's a few of htem, with more detailed on the actual page. In this situation, would it be better to do domainname.com/services/service-name which can exceed the suggested 70 characters, or would it be a better idea to do domain.com/service-name and just have hte m under the services menu? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to going out 2-3 tiers? or having the sub pages of those services off the domain instead of a child of the root child page Please let me know if any clarification is needed. Thanks!

Canonical Question
Our site has thousands of items, however using the old "Widgets" analogy we are unsure on how to implement the canonical tag, and if we need to at all. At the moment our main product pages lists all different "widget" products on one page, however the user can visit other sub pages that filter out the different versions of the product. I.e. glass widgets (20 products)

glass blue widgets (15 products)
glass red widgets (5 products)
etc.... I.e. plastic widgets (70 products)
plastic blue widgets (50 products)
plastic red widgets (20 products)
etc.... As the sub pages are repeating products from the main widgets page we added the canonical tag on the sub pages to refer to the main widget page. The thinking is that Google wont hit us with a penalty for duplicate content. As such the subpages shouldnt rank very well but the main page should gather any link juice from these subpages? Typically once we added the canonical tag it was coming up to the penguin update, lost a 20%-30% of our traffic and its difficult not to think it was the canonical tag dropping our subpages from the serps. Im tempted to remove the tag and return to how the site used to be repeating products on subpages.. not in a seo way but to help visitors drill down to what they want quickly. Any comments would be welcome..0 -
Do trailing / in URLs matter?
I was wondering if search engines see duplicate content on two different URLs if the content is available via www.xyz.com/services or www.xyz,com/services/

How do I redirect index.html to the root / ?
The site I've inherited had operated on index.html at one point, and now uses index.php for the home page, which goes to the / page. The index.html was lost in migrating server hosts. How do I redirect the index.html to the / page? I've tried different options that keep giving ending up with the same 404 error. I tried a redirect from index.html to index.php which ended in an infinite loop. Because the index.html no longer exists in the root, should I created it and then add a redirect to it? Can I avoid this by editing the .htaccess? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!
