Would you consider this keyword spam?
-
See these pages that we've created to rank. There are 3 types:
-
Designed to be topic-specific:
https://www.upcounsel.com/lawyers/trademark -
Designed to be location-specific:
https://www.upcounsel.com/lawyers/san-francisco -
Designed to be a combo of both topic & location:
https://www.upcounsel.com/lawyers/san-francisco-real-estate
Are the keywords at the bottom too many and considered keyword spam?
Any other SEO tips on these pages? I'm thinking about making them a bit more hierarchical, so there can be breadcrumbs and you could click back to San Francisco Lawyers from San Francisco Real Estate Lawyers.
Good examples of sites that have dome structures like this really well?

I worked with a similar company operating in the UK and Australia for a while, they didn't implement my advice and traffic plunged. I think the biggest issue you face is it's the same content on these pages (excerpts of profiles) as is on the individual lawyers page. Each page contributes no unique value to the consumer (searcher). There may be a whole host of canonical and sitemap challenges you are also facing.

Hey Mase,
Yeh I'm going to fence sit on this one, but will offer this design tweak.
I think these look spammy, but I don't necessarily think you will be penalised for it. My suggestion would be to design this area to look less spammy. Consider a clickable drop down for each major city in the three sections of links or a show/hide section for each section etc. A comma seperated linkfest will attract a manual spam action, improve usability to prevent this .
I would also consider adding more unique content per page, because if you are having multiple pages where each listed item is shown more than once, the items content will offer little benefit.

I apologize, semi-identical would have been a better description. To answer your question about the links at the bottom I agree with Crhis I do not think they're spammy.
-
I'd be asking myself this: Are these pages I would expect someone to link to or share with someone else? If your answer is no, I wouldn't waste my time worrying about whether they rank or not. Personally, I think I've seen a gazillion of these types of pages. The links at the bottom wouldn't mean a thing to google, one way or another, if there was content on the page that people wanted to share and did share.
-
I'm not sure how they have "nearly identical content"
they have different attorneys showing, different copy on the right side, different titles at the top, different questions in the blue form, etc. The only thing that is the same would be links near the bottom + header/footer template things.
The rest of what you're saying makes sense. I understand how that is or can be manual spam. We have created these because they are useful to the user. It shows a segmented list of attorneys specific to your location or topic. There is information about what they can hire these lawyers for, and a form to get them started.
Yes, there are some overlapping attorneys, but not too many and as our user base grows, these people will automatically change out.

Spam in terms of an algorithmic penalty or manual penalty?
In terms of a manual penalty, yes. Why? Because of the first sentence of your post here:
"See these pages that we've created to rank."
It's considered spam to create pages to rank. You're supposed to create pages to be useful to users. The pages you linked have nearly identical content.
-
If each page has unique and valuable information related to the specific topic, I would absolutely not consider that to be spam. If each page is just a bunch of keyword-rich text and offers little value, then yes, I would consider it spam.

Drastic surge of link spam in Webmaster Tools' Link Profile
Hello all I am trying to get some insights/advice on a recent as well as drastic increase in link spam within my Webmaster Tools' Link Profile. Before I get into more detail, I would like to point out, that I did find some relevant MOZ community posts addressing this type of issue. However, my link spam situation may have to be approached from a different angle, as it concerns two sites at the same time and somewhat in the same way. Basically, starting in July 2017, from one day to the other, a multitude of domains (50+) is generating link spam (at least 200 links a month and counting) and to cut a long story short, I believe the sites are hacked. This is because most of the domain names sound legit and load the homepage, but all the sub-pages linking to my site contain "adult" gibberish. In addition, it is interesting to see, that each sub-page follows the same pattern, scraping content from my homepage including the on-page links - that generate the spammy backlinks to my sites - while inserting the adult gibberish in between (basically it's all just text and looks like as if a bot is at work). Therefore, it's not like my link is being inserted "specifically" into pages or to spam me with the same anchor text over and over. So, I am not sure what kind of link spam this really is (or the purpose of it). Some more background information: As mentioned above, this link spam (attack?) is affecting two of my sites and it started off pretty much simultaneously (in addition, the sites focus on a competitive niche). The interesting detail is, that one site suffered a manual penalty years ago, which has been lifted (a disavowal file exists and no further link building campaigns have been undertaken after the cleanup), while the other site has never seen any link building efforts - it is clean, yet the same type of spam is flooding that websites' link profile too. In the webmaster forums the overall opinion is, that Google ignores web spam. All well. However, I am still concerned, that the dozens of spammy links pointing to the website "with a history" may pose a risk (more spam on a daily basis on both sites though). At the same time I wonder, why the other "clean" site is facing the same issue. The clean sites' rankings do not appear to be impacted, while the other website has seen some drops, but I am still observing the situation. Therefore, should I be concerned for both sites or even start an endless disavowal campaign on the site with a history? PS: This MOZ article appears to advice so: https://moz.com/blog/do-we-still-need-to-disavow-penguin "In most cases, sites that have a history of collecting unnatural links tend to continue to collect them. If this is the case for you, then it’s best to disavow those on a regular basis (either monthly or quarterly) so that you can avoid getting another manual action." What is your opinion? Sorry for the long post and many thanks in advance for any help/insight.

Spam backlinks
Hi there, through Open Site Explorer I've found 5838 links (across 1458 domains) with the anchor text 'new porn' pointing to a site I manage. Someone's been busy! Most (99.5%) appear to be created as Pingbacks with rel="nofollow" on them. As a precaution I submitted a file through the Google Disavow tool which has had the status "You successfully uploaded a disavow links file" for the last month. I'm wondering whether I should be concerned, or whether Google and other search engines will be clever enough to know this site is about electricity and not scantily clad people?

Would having a + plus sign between keywords in meta title have an effect on SEO?
I have seen one of my clients' competitors do this in their meta title and it got me a little intrigued... I understand that google uses the + sign as an operator in adwords, and to a certain extent, as a search tool, but would it help or make any difference to the SEO in the meta title/data (eg. 'SEO+Marketing+Services')? Thanks

Best use of domains with keywords
I own a domain with just the company name in it (no keywords) that I use as main domain. I also own some other domain with keywords inside that right now I redirect all to the main domain with a 301 redirect. What is the best use for these domains? Should I use them when I do link building or is better to use just the main domain? Can they be useful to increase the main domain link juice/page rank? If yes, how? Thanks

How is this different than Go Daddy Spam?
Out of boredom, I googled up "SEO Company". #1 result is qualifiedimpressions.com. Taking a look at their link profile it seems they are utilizing anchor text on all their clients' websites. Moreover, it appears they have multiple sites for each of their phrases (which they cross link). Qualified Impressions - SEO Company WeBuildRankings.com - SEO Service VisibilitySquad - SEO Companies Some of their clients are rocking multiple anchor text links. How is this not any different than what Go Daddy did recently?

Beaten in SERP's by a site going 'all in' on 2 keywords in their anchor text profile.
I would like to get peoples thoughts on putting 80% of your anchor text links in just 2 keywords vs a nice spread of branded and longtail keywords.. like I am. recently fell off the first page for a key SERP.. and the site in P10 has gone nuts on just that two keyword's.. I know we have a good site onpage/ conversion / low bounce rate page views etc.. Pretty sure we get more traffic than them. Seems that this obvious bloated anchor text profiling has worked for them though.. What do you guys think/know?

What does Youtube Consider Duplicate content and will it effect my ranking/traffic?
What does youtube consider duplicated content? If I have a power point type video that I already have on youtube and I want to change the beginning and end call to action, would that be considered duplicate content? If yes then how would this effect my ranking/youtube page. Will it make a difference if I have it embedded on my blog?
