Directory submissions are not very useful. Bad directories can even be harmful (Note. confirm form someone who has made research about directories). You also need to focus on your linking profile. Linking profile should be natural. If there is large peaks on the amount of links, it might be alarming in the "eyes" of search engines.
In some business fields highly specified product directories have still big role in generating traffic and leads, but that's another story.
If you find respectful and relevant listings, then go ahead and submit. If the only reason to submit links to directories is to get better rankings, then - in most cases - it might be a waste of time.

One word: Natural! Create good content and try to get natural links to your site. Of course you can contact people and notify about your great content. They might like it and link to it. Don't just send linking requests though.
I wouldn't take part to shady link building schemes, blog spam linking, spam blog linking, link swap (if not natural) etc. Of course there are people who can provide you thousands of links fast, but in long term it probably turns against your site.

Large natural products website owns education website. Should relationship be disclosed?
Hello All - I'm working on a content strategy for a large natural products company. In general it's difficult for articles about the natural products industry written written on commercial company sites to show up in the SERP. Most of the results come from large educational sites and blogs with no obvious affiliation (or products for sale). This company also owns an educational site - one that would be much easier to get content on the first page of the SERP for. The 2 sites are hosted on the same server. My question is - does this website relationship look fishy? Is it a grey area to create content for the educational site - content where the purpose is #1 education, but #2 - to promote products from the main site and send traffic to the main site. I do think it's important to note that the main company site does not actual sell any products there (products are sold on Amazon and on shelves in stores). I appreciate your thoughts!

Are directory websites still worth considering?
Hi Mozzers, What are people's opinions on directory website? As standard, we would always attempt to get our clients listed on reputable generic directories such as Google My Business and Yelp, and then directories that are relevant to the industry in which a company operates. Do you think this is the right approach to take?

Does more product pages mean better rankings?
We've recently been told that one of reasons why our site doesnt rank as well as a particular competitors because they have much more product pages than us. We can see that they have better quality links, which we are working on improving, which we sort of understand can be helping them beat us, but we didn't think that they would be ranked higher just because of more products. They also do not have much interesting blog / content on site. So should our limited resources be focused on getting better links, better content, or increasing our depth of product range? Are nofollow links really not effecting rank?
I honestly find it hard to believe that nofollow links are not being considered for rank. Take for example Google finds 2,000,000 nofollow links for a site. Are they really going to ignore that?

Keyword Strategy for Very Large Website Launch
My friend and I are launching a website used to track alcoholic beverages. It has over 115k pages, three tier site structure. I am curious about the keyword strategy for the homepage. I know I will get a lot of long tail search traffic for drink names and how to mix drinks. Do I need a Keyword Strategy for my homepage with so many internal pages? Its a new brand we created, not a keyword domain. We would like to rank for how to mix drinks, etc... However with the number of pages we already have a lot of internal link juice. Where should link building be focused?
