Platform Migration Challenge

Our website is running on a 2004 Microsoft Access DB and it’s time to ditch it…
We have a new site created using .php with a sql DB.
How can we maintain the back links and general goodwill created over time?
Example… how do we redirect something like
http://www.simplastics.com/details.asp?subcat=35917617&itm=2916 to
http://www.simplastics.com/30240 <--- (new address will look like this)
thanks

Thanks for the insight...
Simplastics.com currently runs on IIS, however, the new site will run on a Linux based server with PHP and SQL db.
As for the 30240 trailer (LOL) unfortunately that is a misguided application of part numbers by a particular manufacturer (we don't like it either as it spiders like a zip code instead of a part number).
The new site utilizes a Magento shopping cart so we're committed to Linux.
Considering the migration to a new platform, what would be your recommendation?

You need to 301 redirect your links. i dont like your new urls though, using numbers does not help SEO.
If you have an IIS server these things are easy to do.

Few Specific Migration Questions
Hi Everyone, We are about ready to do the migration for our website. I've done smaller migrations in the past, but this is a $5 million+ site. We are moving from Magento to Shopify (same domain, different hosting). I read the Moz migration guide, which was great. Any tips from you guys on things that you might have missed when doing a migration? I've Got... All url redirects completed All legacy redirects completed All image url redirects completed All meta data/content moved over It was recommended that I submit the old site's XML Sitemap to Google when the new site goes live so I can get all the redirects indexed. Do you just create an XML sitemap from the old site and upload it to the new site or how is that done? Is there anything from a server/hosting standpoint I need to watch out for? I am using Screaming Frog for the old site to record all data. I was also thinking about Deep Crawl. Any other tools that helped you with your migration? We have many pages that are www.domain.com/page.html?p=2 for example that is a page 2 of a category. Do these need to be redirected as well? Thank you!

Switching from HTML Static to WordPress Platform - SEO
Hi All, Hope everyone is doing well. I am currentyl in the process of having a re-design to myu HTML Static Site, I am switching to WordPress. My site is still running now until the new one is prepared. My question is: I do rank pretty well for some of our strong local keywords, we also have a FEW links pointing to inner pages with an extension of .HTML, should I set the the WordPress URL's to reflect .HTML or will the Search Enginesfigure out that http://www.domain/innerpage.html is the same as http://www.domain/innerpage/ or is it NOT the same. Should I switch or not? Thanks for your input Jimmy

Suggestions of some video CMS platforms?
Hi SEOmoz Community! Looking for some suggestions on video sharing CMS platforms. I haven't messed around with video sharing for a few years now and seems like a lot of the previous ones I know about are pretty much dead like PHPmotion. If anyone has any good experiences whether paid or free open source platforms, I'd like to hear what are some good options? TIA!

What is Best Platform to Build Website - SEO in mind
Hello... I am going to be creating two new websites shortly that will need to be built with SEO in mind. These will not be e-commerce sites, but instead will be informational with a couple pages of content on each. One will be used to get people to input their contact info and that info will be sent to our call center where we will call them back from. The other site will be heavily used for graphics, but still needs to have room for content (seo purposes)... Can you guys please recommend what platform i should have these sites written on (and please remember I need to do this on whatever is the most SEO-Friendly)... Thanks

What is the best SEO friendly CMS platform?
Would like to build some content sites and would appreciate some guidance on what you believe to be the most SEO friendly CMS platform. I'm also hoping to find something that doesn't require much HTML and is pretty easy to jump into.

SEO Considerations for a Platform Change
We are getting ready to move our e-commerce platform from Zencart to Magento as the original Zencart framework is pretty dated. while I'm excited to move to a more modern platform, I'm terrified at the potential SEO risk involved with doing so given that all URLs will likely be different and we're considering updating many product listings. Almost all of the site's traffic is organic, so maintaining rankings is extremely important. I'd love any advice, but especially that related to: Best way to redirect all new URLs sitewide The prudence of heavily editing product listings at the same time of redirecting the URL (i.e. updating product descriptions) Site structure: Should I strive to keep the new site link structure as similar to the old as possible? Resources or guides on transitioning a site from a SEO perspective Other major facets I'm missing I appreciate any help or sights you can offer! Thank you....
