Advice on Duplicate Page Content
-
We have many pages on our website and they all have the same template (we use a CMS) and at the code level, they are 90% the same. But the page content, title, meta description, and image used are different for all of them.
For example -
http://www.jumpstart.com/common/find-easter-eggs
http://www.jumpstart.com/common/recognize-the-rsWe have many such pages.
Does Google look at them all as duplicate page content? If yes, how do we deal with this?

EGOL, Everett,
Thank you both for your very useful suggestions. Sounds like we should do something similar to our PDF documents to represent them as the actual/canonical content on the page. And we'll look at our CMS to see how we might implement the unlinked page name in the breadcrumb. We have done some work already in adding structured data with schemas (including aggregate ratings), so that is hopefully yielding some results already.
However, after an encouraging traffic spike that seemed to indicate that we were on the right track, we saw a very worrisome dip last month.... which then led to a lot of worried hand wringing about Panda.
So these suggestions are very helpful ; thanks again and we'll try them out!

Thank you, Everett,
Nice to see you posting in Q&A.
Look forward to seeing you regularly.

Hello Sudhir,
Those two pages would not be seen as duplicates. Google is very capable of separating the template from the content.
On a side note, you should look into getting the name of the page/game into the breadcrumb, though it doesn't have to be linked like the previous two pages in the path. For example:
You are here: Home --> Common --> Find Easter Eggs
Allowing visitors to review and rate the games would provide useful, keyword-rich, natural content on an otherwise content-sparse page. Once reviews/ratings are implemented you could also use Schema.org markup to enhance your search engine results by showing star ratings next to each game.
Good luck!

Google knows how to separate the template of the site from the content. So you have nothing to worry about if most of the code on your pages is the same code that is used on every other page.
I looked at your two sample pages and saw a few things that would concern me...
This page had very little content. If you have lots of pages with such a tiny amount of content you could have Panda problems.
http://www.jumpstart.com/common/find-easter-eggs
You also have pages like this....
http://www.jumpstart.com/common/recognize-the-rs-view
These have very little content.
I have a site with lots of printable content that is mainly images placed in .pdf documents to control the scale of the printing and the look of the printed page. The pages used to present them to visitors and the pdf documents were all thin content and my site had a Panda problem. That cause the rankings of every page on the site to fall and really damaged my traffic. I solved that by noindexing the html pages and applying rel=canonical to the pdf files using .htacess.
I can't say if this will happen to you but I would be uncomfortable if I had a site with such little content on its pages.

Minimising the effects of duplicate content
Hello, We realised that one of our clients, copied a large part of content from our website to his. The normal reaction would be to send a cease and desist letter. Nevertheless this would probably mean loosing a good client. The client dumped the text of several articles (for example:

http://www.velascolawyers.com/en/property-law/136-the-ley-de-costas-coastal-law.html ) Into the same page:
http://www.freundlinger-partners.com/en/home/faqs-property-law/ I convinced the client to place our authorship tags on this page, but I am wondering if this is enough. What do you think? Cheers

Content relaunch without content duplication
We write great Content for blog and websites (or at least we try), especially blogs. Sometimes few of them may NOT get good responses/reach. It could be the content which is not interesting, or the title, or bad timing or even the language used. My question for the discussion is, what will you do if you find the content worth audience's attention missed it during its original launch. Is that fine to make the text and context better and relaunch it ? For example: 1. Rechristening the blog - Change Title to make it attractive
Technical SEO | | macronimous
2. Add images
3. Check spelling
4. Do necessary rewrite, spell check
5. Change the timeline by adding more recent statistics, references to recent writeups (external and internal blogs for example), change anything that seems outdated Also, change title and set rel=cannoical / 301 permanent URLs. Will the above make the blog new? Any ideas and tips to do? Basically we like to refurbish (:-)) content that didn't succeed in the past and relaunch it to try again. If we do so will there be any issues with Google bots? (I hope redirection would solve this, But still I want to make sure) Thanks,0 -

CMS on autopilot is happily creating duplicate pages - advice?
Hi, our ecommerce CMS (Magento) is creating a bunch of pages with very little content and no user value like this: http://goo.gl/UU2vl This particular example is the by product of a product filtering page, which has the format www.mywebsite/explore/index/loaddata/id/10/. These pages have no content other than images - also the pages don't have page titles and are therefore being flagged in webmaster tools as requiring HTML improvements We also have CMS auto generated pages like this: www.mysite.comhttp/review/product/list/id/7 where the page is effectively a duplicate of the product page, and this is giving us pages being flagged by webmastertools as having duplicate title tags. Should we exclude these two type of page via robots.txt or take another approach, like not worry about them 🙂 many thanks, any help gratefully received.

Duplicate content in Magento
Hi all We got some serious issues with duplicate content on a Magento site that we are marketing. For example: http://www.citcop.se/varmepumpar-luft-luft/panasonic/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw http://www.citcop.se/panasonic/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw http://www.citcop.se/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw All of the above seem to work just fine as it is now but since they are excatly the same product they should ofcourse do a 301 redirect to the main page. Any ideas on how to sort this out in Magnto without having to resort to manual work in .htaccess? Have a great day Fredrik

Duplicate content and http and https
Within my Moz crawl report, I have a ton of duplicate content caused by identical pages due to identical pages of http and https URL's. For example: http://www.bigcompany.com/accomodations https://www.bigcompany.com/accomodations The strange thing is that 99% of these URL's are not sensitive in nature and do not require any security features. No credit card information, booking, or carts. The web developer cannot explain where these extra URL's came from or provide any further information. Advice or suggestions are welcome! How do I solve this issue? THANKS MOZZERS

Duplicate page content errors in SEOmoz
Hi everyone, we just launched this new site and I just ran it through SEOmoz and I got a bunch of duplicate page content errors. Here's one example -- it says these 3 are duplicate content: http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-black-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-camel-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-gray-3inch You'll see from the pages that the titles, images and small pieces of the copy are all unique -- but there is some copy that is the same (after all, these are pretty much the same shoe, just a different color). So, why am I getting this error and is there any best way to address? Thanks so much!
